But he brushes her off for that reason, doesn't he?

Not sure if Blader was talking about the main girl, Melina, or the young skater, Bibi, but even though Bond's, um, 'interactions' with Bibi were played for a joke about her being too young, in real life there's only a two-year age gap between Carole Bouquet (Melina) and Lynn Holly Johnson (Bibi). With the possible exception of Maud Adams, Moore was creepily old to be romancing most of his Bond girls, though.

I recall the pacing in From Russia bored me, which I wasn't expecting since it was held in such high regard. The editing can be a bit suspect as well. It's my least favorite of the first four movies. It's been awhile however and I'll have to give it another go.

And Thunderball didn't?!

It has the best plot of the Conneries, but I agree it dead slow in the middle, plus has that random Gypsy stuff.

Thunderball often gets complaints about its pacing, but I find it just fine.

I've heard that from a few people who first saw it as an adult, aka coming to it without nostalgia, with expectations of what a Bond movie should be and comparing to modern examples. It's definitely of its time and more of a slow-burn thriller than the actioners that the series would start turning out from Goldfinger onwards, so I can understand why it doesn't sit all that well with many 'newcomers', for lack of a better term. For me it's perhaps the series' one true Cold War spy thriller, with the focus firmly on plot over action, and one of the most engaging examples of the genre.

Thunderball is fine, I would just suggest it's the worst of the best Connery films. If that makes sense.

I need to go on a Bond spree anyways.

Hulu has all of the pre-Brosnan films available for streaming right now, save only Dr. No for some odd reason. They have Never Say Never Again if you want to watch it, though!

I went and saw this last night, but had a drink too many. Combined with the reclining loungers, I fell asleep like 20 minutes in and woke up at like 5:45AM, lol (11PM showing). I slunk out past the cleaning crew. Surprised no one woke me up or called the cops.

Worth it to go see it again? It seemed pretty meh during the opening stuff.

I really enjoyed the hell out of this one. Daniel is still as great as ever, and the pts was fun. The action is good throughout the movie and cinematography is serviceable. The music did its job really well and kept me in the mood. Mr. Hinx was awesome if a bit underused, and I enjoyed the relationship between Bond and Swann. For the bad...
Monica's character just disappearing was a weak send off, and Blofeld being behind all of Bond's misery, more or less is really dumb. Damn leak prepared me for disappointment at least. I still got a kick out of seeing Mr. White again and how it went from there.
Despite all that, it did an okay job of tying itself to previous movies even if it's way too contrived. Overall an 8/10 and a good time if you can stand silly plot twists and some occasional dullness. If not, don't bother watching, you're going to hate Spectre.
For now, my current rankings go like this with Daniel's movies:

1.Casino Royale
2.Skyfall
3.Spectre
4.QoS

A big letdown after Skyfall in my book, wonderfully made and produced but the story and writing was just crap. Rolled my eyes when
Swan said he was a good person out loud, with a straight face.
Especially when they spend 3 movies establishing that Bond is the exact opposite. I've loved the Craig films, Skyfall and Casino are the best Bonds made in the last 20 years, but Spectre lost what made those so great. Gritty realism, and the fact that Bond is a broken person who kills people for queen and country.

My ranking:

Casino Royale
Quantum of Solace
Spectre
Skyfall

This did a lot to improve after Skyfall, but still indulged in the hokeyness too much, plus had terrible dialogue and at least one gaping plot hole. Why did Bond just hand himself over to Blofeld by going straight to the crater?

I don't think I was prepared for just how incredibly dull this turned out to be. Thomas Newman's score is so damn boring, and strangely distracting(maybe it was just my theater, but the sound mix was quite bad, making some dialog very hard to hear). There isn't a single exciting set piece in the entire film, with only the train fight threatening to be interesting. Everybody, every single actor, seems bored to be in this movie. And between Sam Mendes static compositions, Lee Harvey's editing, the stunning lack of wit from the script, and the look of the film that seems to either be overblown light from God or deadening beige, its a challenge to keep yourself awake for all 150 agonizingly long minutes. And as bad as the first half was, somehow the second half is even worse, with a central romance with zero sparks or chemistry, a completely wasted Christopher Waltz, pointless retcons, and about 3 anti-climaxes one after another, each more nonsencial than the last. I felt trapped watching this movie. I wanted to escape the theater, but some sense of fandom kept me there.

Thing is, its the kind of bad film that makes you question that fandom. Like maybe this is it for me, this series has clearly gone so far up its own ass, that even on the curve that we often rate James Bond movies, I can't even give it a pass. Then I went back to YouTube, and found that clip of Bond and Vesper on the train. What a night and day difference! A conversation full of wit and character-revealing moments, performed by actors clearly relishing the material, starring a Bond who's cool and handsome but still somebody recognizably human, edited with a smooth rhythm for maximum audience engagement. Then I went through all the other clips, the fantastic action sequences, David Arnold's wonderful score, how a fuckin' poker game had more dramatic stakes and tension than all the sequences in Spectre combined, and then I realized....no, I don't hate James Bond. Its just Spectre that sucks.

This hits the nail on the head.

How can anyone not love the opening sequence at least? An incredible long take, and the helicopter fight was amazing.

Yes! Watching that opening I thought I was in for a real treat with the rest of the movie. It's a shame the rest fell so flat.

Seriously,
the brain thing bothers the fuck out of me. I was just waiting for it to be a factor the rest of the movie and it never happened. Ever. Why.

My wife read it that way too, but I just took the scene as torture.

Meh. Was not a big of Skyfall nor this one.

Besides this one's frantic train fight, I've been underwhelmed by the two movies' action set pieces. They're so....not exhilarating. Especially the plane versus car in the snow. Maybe I just miss the kinetic and stressful mood of Casino Royale too much.

The films have been missing a big action set piece for a while now. Something that people are talking about before the film even releases. Mission: Impossible does that now.

So ...
this concludes Daniel Craig's run as James Bond right? I mean, Blofeld was behind the whole thing. Would feel weird having Craig do another one.

Got to go see this on Friday, IMO this was the worst of the new Bond Films. There was way to may "cliche" moments in Spectre. I did like that it does bring some of the other movies together.

You saw the movie, right?

I don't think it does. In fact I am more sure than ever that Craig is picking up his option.

Why?
Imo the opposite.

BTW when
batista
died, him saying shit before it happened was stupid and didn't fit the newer bonds.

Batista played a very bland and uninteresting character.
No comparison to oddjob or jaws.

My wife read it that way too, but I just took the scene as torture.

But it's explicitly said what each brain piercing will do. It's absolutely insane to go into that detail describing what will happen and then just not have it happen, unless we're supposed to believe Bond is just some sort of superman.

But he says he's out and drives off with the girl, while the man behind his lifelong torture is gone. Why would there be more?

Same thing I thought about the whole thing.

With Blofeld not being dead, he can still have alot of influence out there, there are still many ways to go with it for more Craig or without but I am really hoping for at LEAST one more Craig Bond.

SPECTRE is a huge network. Blofeld will return and get his revenge. There is no doubt of that. The next film is definitely going to be an attempt at Craig's On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Since C was a buddy of the Secretary of the State, there are most likely conncetions to Spectre to this guy, so he has probably a Go Out of the Jail card

Yes, I saw the movie and quite liked it.

For me it would be

Casino Royale > SPECTRE > Skyfall > Quantum of Solace.

What I ment to say is that;
With Blofeld gone and behind bars, all of his henchmen either dead or apprehanded ... there's little to nothing to do for Craig Bond. Sure, Blofeld could still have some influence .. but SPECTRE showed the fall of his organisation. With the Nine Eyes not being used, SPECTRE gone ... there's nothing Blofeld could use (so far anyway) to actually get to Bond. The final scene even shows him driving of with a girl he (might've) fell in love with. Quite symbolic, right? They've now tied 4 movies together with a beginning and an end. Sure, they could have Craig return for one and go with the standard-Bond one-mission type of movie but wouldn't that be a bit, I don't know, weird? They created an arc with Craig Bond and then doing a solo movie? Sure, this could work. Have him do one more mission and then pass on the 007 mantle to someone else.

I don't think the movie shows
SPECTRE being gone though. It's not like it would wither up overnight -- especially since Blofeld is still alive

Eh, no? They can just choose a new leader for Spectre? The organisation is fine. And with their influence, there is no way Blofeld goes out of jail ASAP.

Plus with all of that watching, he would have so much dirt on so many people.
He is definitely not done with. Bond was out in Skyfall and he came back. Partly for M but also for duty. It is who he is. Either Swan will be murdered or Bond will just accept who he is when shit goes down

Let him escape so that he can be killed in the next one as Craig's exit piece, all neat and tidy

Best thing would be to show this 007 retire and a new guy take his place.

Thats what I loved about Goldeneye. 006 and 007 going on a mission together. Would love to see more 00-Agents actually help each other out. Can't recall if there ever was another 00-Agent in a James Bond movie apart from Goldeneye.

It does not work that way.
It is not about 007, it is about James Bond.
James Bond is not a title handed down, it is a person.
Also I think spoiler tags are a wee bit out of hand...when it is not a spoiler lol

Sorry about that! It has been a while since I viewed the older Bond movies. My bad!

@Hex ... wait. James Bond was a "code name" for 007? Right? Wasn't it until Craig-Bond that it actually became his name?
