Arkham Origins stays goated. Best combat in the series. Got my annual playthrough + Cold, Cold Heart DLC coming up in December, can't wait.

Explorers of Sky (probably my favourite story in any videogame I've played),
Spiritfarer (because of my life story and my work as a Liaison Psychiatrist for Palliative Care Hospitals, the game resonated quite deeply with me)
and Genshin Impact (best gacha ever, no doubt. I've played over 3000 hours and it's been a fucking blast so far, greatly recommended)

  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (User Friendly Character Action)
  • SSX 3 (Sports gameplay design)
  • Half-Life 1 (Scenario design)
  • Perfect Dark (Fun custom multiplayer design)
  • Final Fantasy X (Unique world)
  • Teardown (Destruction Tech)
  • Dead or Alive (any number) (User Friendly Deep Fighting Game)
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake (Thoughtful remake design)
If I were to leave an honorable mention, it would probably be a 2D game where you could tell the devs spent an insane amount of time on it's animations, like Street Fighter 3 or something. Mainly because I didn't mention a single 2D game in my 10 but I have enjoyed plenty of them.

If I were to put a number 1, it would be story pacing (Mass Effect 2). Too many games get it wrong. Too many games are paced too slowly or too fast. Too many games overstay their welcome/have too much filler. And sometimes, a few of them out there end too soon.

Mass Effect 2 perfected it and should honestly be studied up and down in any 101 course for this stuff.
