I think the problem here is that you think there's some hard line between "hitting" and "causing severe harm or death" that these good-natured criminals will not cross even accidentally. Say the kid get's wailed on, his friends join in, kid is on life support, takes him a year or two to recover, get mobility back, and goes get a gun and takes revenge, then what, will you come in asking for stats of High School kids who were bullied, injured to the point to the point of death, and come take revenge

Very, very unfortunate. As someone who was bullied many times during elementary and high school, I am appreciative that the outcomes never happened in such a fashion. That torment caused me tremendous physiological, mental strain and pain that to this day I still deal with the reproductions from time to time.

For example, of someone pushed you off a skateboard and does nothing further or laughs at your pain etc, you wouldn't have credible grounds for self defense.

If they said, "I'm going to kill you." and waved over two other guys following up with "Let's get him guys!" there would be sufficient grounds to believe you were in serious trouble.

So it's only about what's equivalent? The kid tries to walk away and is pursued and beat up anyway. Punching someone in the back of the head is not equivalent to walking away. The dead kid started the fight and escalated the situation. Equivalence was gone at that point.

Sounds exactly like one kid being pushed into another to instigate a fight. So not only was Nuno a bully, but he was actually just a pawn bully at the mercy of the more elite level bullies!!
