That generation Z thread got me sweating

My ass used AOL

I remember 9/11 vividly

I scrounged the internet pre-youtube

I used gamefaqs for the actual FAQs

Fuck this shit

You used AOL? Were you even old enough to read during AOL's time? lol

You were using AOL at 5?

Remembering the logo doesn't really count.

As someone who spent a lot of time on Usenet back then, AOL didn’t exactly have a stereotype of having the most intelligent users. So I would believe it if someone said they used it when they were 5, and it would explain a lot.

I see "born in 1995" and think "Tiny, little, fussy baby".

Then I do the math and realize you're 22.

I'm old and I'm dying.

ur a millennial like the rest of us, jabroni.

Yeah, like I don't even understand what's being asked. There's a very clear generation you fall into OP. IMO, anyone who has some semblance of memory what life was like before the wide-spread use and integration of the internet is a millennial.

This is true. it only counts if you know the struggle of logging on and the relief of "Welcome to AOL"

I'm decidedly a millennial, but damn am I glad that my dad was an internet dork and had fast as shit internet early on.

Using dial-up at friends' houses was a nightmare

You're whatever you want to be. Generations are fluid, regardless of what people say. If you were born near 2 generations, you should choose whichever one you identify with most. Or don't identify at all, generations are dumb.

It doesn't matter what you call yourself, so long as you continue the tradition of killing off things that were beloved by older generations.

All of that at like 5 years old?

Seriously, what's with people counting stuff they have vague infant memories of the last vestiges of as some means of making them feel "older"?

If you were born in 1995-1997, I probably saw new pornography of your mother in the "18-19" category.

Born in 92, here in New York it was Myspace that really blew up the internet for me, must have been 04-05. But then again I didnt have my first PC till 2004. Wasnt around for super slow internet but I was around for Netscape explorer.

God I'm only 24 and some of you kids are making me feel old as shit.

I'm almost 26 and you're making me feel old as balls! *shakes fist at Inferno313*

I 'member when there were tons of articles saying MY generation was killing everything.

The social media revolution really sped up the aging process I think. If you compare someone growing up in the 70s vs the 80s, things were roughly the same. Technology had improved obviously, TVs and computers became more widespread, but they weren't shockingly different. But with smartphones and social media, it all changed. I'm 25, but someone who is 20 was 10 when the iPhone came out and 8 when YouTube came out. They had a fundamentally different experience than me growing up. Me getting a phone at all at 15 was a huge deal, and it was a brick phone that could only call. Now 10 year olds are expected to have iPhones

Vivid memories? There is a difference. Even if you do have vivid memories that is in no way normal.
I have a few memories I can recall quite well from the ages of two and three. Not a whole lot but they're solid. Rest of the stuff is kinda in "flashes".

I have a vivid memory of my sister's birthday in 1999. Where I was, what I was doing, who was there and what was going on.

Born in 1996. No idea what generation we are. Sometimes I feel like we're both.

98 here.

Generations are fluid and if they ever are set in stone, won’t be for many years. No sense in getting worked up over placement if you’re in a borderline year, as it can probably go either way. I think ending that generation at 2000 or 2001 makes the most sense, but what do I know?

I don’t care what you call these years, as long as it’s not iGen, which is just gross

Y'all generation children.

(Generation titles are bite-sized anthropology platitudes for small-minded people. Don't mind it.)

'96 GAF checking in.
Can confirm I remember 9/11, used AOL and dialup. Remember hearing about Youtube for the first time in middle school and going WTF is that. It blew my mind when someone I knew was in a Youtube video.

Totally a millennial. I took the heat proudly for that generation. I ain't fucking taking the heat for Gen Z too. You can't make me!

Also, iGen is the stupidest name ever. Please, please, please do not become a thing.

I was born in 92 and I remember being such a contrarian as a kid. Everyone was using Myspace, so I avoided it just because fuck these people telling me I should use it. And that's just one of the things I avoided (also avoided the PlayStation 2).

I kind of regret it now because it makes following nostalgic callbacks to things I should know kind of hard to follow.

Bro how old are you where you still get defensive over other people trying to figure out where the fuck they lie generation wise? Your post was equal parts edge and passive aggressive.

First of all they aren't vague infant memories, I used AOL and later AIM from pretty much 1st grade til 6th grade, communicated with the vast majority of my friends through it as well. 9/11 happened when I was in the first grade and I can give you probably 80% of the details of what I did that whole day, how my family was reacting, how the atmosphere was at school, etc.

Just because we all don't have the memory of a dog doesn't mean they're vague infant memories.

And tbf we have also probably seen pornography of your mother in the "MILF" category. Goes both ways breh

LOL.

Reminds me of people born in '86 or some shit posting on FB about being an "80s child" and always waxing nostalgic about the 80s.
