1UP SHOW - Street Fighter IV am here?

Well considering it's 2% done and still in alpha, it can only get better. Fucking graphics whores.
I don't think many people are worried about the technical side of things. It's the art (something that should already be decided on) that's bothersome. Even if the art is incomplete, it does not look like a pretty direction to be going in.

I want to say that this should be a sequel to the latest EX, not the true Street Fighter series, but I won't. I liked EX, it was just a very different feeling game from the 2D Street Fighter games. But to be fair, Street Fighter III was also a very different feeling game from the rest of the series.

The culprit with SFIII and EX was too many frames of animation in between moves, which slowed things up a bit in my opinion. But I guess that is unavoidable now. Making less frames of animation in order to preserve the feel of an almost 20 year old game in this day and age is unacceptable, and us old school SFII gamers just need to accept this.

Like my dad (or whoever) accepting that the frame of my 2006 Mustang isn't made out of pure steel and iron like his 1967 Mustang. Being made out of fiberglass bring a whole new element to the car, good and bad, and that's just the way it is. Times are a changin'. At least we have the HD 2D version of SFII coming out soon. I'll still play and enjoy SFIV as well though.

Anyone talking shit about this game is crazy. It looks awesome, way better than I expected.

Yup. Pretty much how I feel too.

And the comments that it's an EX just hurt my brain. I played EX for almost a year and know it in and out and can confirm that SF4 has nothing from it.

*pours gasoline on GAF*

It looks strange now, but I have faith that it will look great once it's done... Well, I guess that kind of goes without saying.

The reason why I like sf over most fighting games out there (I'm a casual fighting game fan) is that there wasn't much thinking when playing the game. It isn't a button masher, but unlike soul calibur, I didn't have to work about 8 way movement or blocking / countering aspect.

Oh no he didn't.

What was the deal with Shoe saying something like "Soul Calibur is just a more hardcore game. Street Fighter is still hardcore though..."? Wouldn't technical be a better word? And even then, is he really qualified to make that call?

I know it's still early, but I'm kind of confused. What's the point of doing the SS2HF HD remix and SFIV? Isn't SFIV taking place inbetween II and III and not having any characters from the latter?

Just to go off topic for a bit, but did we get confirmation ofno 1upyours last week? I thought Garnett said he was gonna try do a show.

He made a topic on Gaf saying he was sick and how it was too late, so we'll get an epic new year show next week.

I couldn't care less of the whole fighting genre since VF4. I only care about Soul calibur IV because of Taki's tits. Not really excited about Tekken 6.

But this new SFIV here sounds and looks to hot to pass.

Street Fighter II: Movie came out in 1994. So, 13 going on 14. Street Fighter II V (TV) was in 1995. Both can be had on DVD now for very cheap.
Damn, has it been that long. I must still have the VHS one and 2 dvd's of the movie, one of them the latest that has came out, the Uncut, Uncensored, Unleashed dvd.
And the SFII V series I did not like, I mean, Ryu and Sagat, buttbuddies in jail, that's just wrong.
jett said:
Almost, it's from 1994. I watched it a month ago or so, wasn't as awesome as I remembered...
I think it still holds up to the other anime/cartoons that are outthere.

From Cock Fighter to Boob Calibur eh? I see what you did there.

Edit: Oh how I love the casual fighter. If there's no tits, it's not worthy. :lol

Its looking great. I was actually thinking back to my arcade days as a kid playing SFII today. That kid told me that I need a HUUUUUUGE HDTV to play this with my friends.

I think I should listen to him.

:D

Looks like it'll be one of those titles people love to hate, even though it'll probably be a lot of fun.

I'm not a fan of how they modelled the faces. The facial animations are great, but the actual faces look unfamiliar. I've seen so many different representations of Ryu and Ken, yet these ones look very out-of-place for some reason.

TTP knows what's up.

Looking good. I'm glad they didn't go overboard with the dreary paint brush BS from the trailer, opting to keep everything bright, colorful and cartoony.

I need to see more characters and stages pronto :D

Will it have the whole SF2 cast?

If you listen to what the guys are talking about on the show you'd know why you didn#t see more and you would also have your cast answer.

Was never really that into SF or beat em ups in general but SF4 looks pretty hot in motion. Can't wait to see some footage of the other characters.

One thought: after considering it a while, I think a lot of people might be misreading Ono's comments about fan base. I suspect he is not reiterating over and over that he wants to make SFIV purely for the old fans of SF2 from its heyday. There's a subtle difference; he keeps saying he wants to get back to /what made/ SF2 popular in the first place. While that might automatically draw some old fans back in, should he succeed, I get the idea that the thought is to make a contemporary game that puts old fundamentals front and center to reintroduce them to the world at large.

Which is not to say that it's going to work out for certain; I merely think that's probably what the guy is trying to get at. People like Ono and Capcom USA have got to obviously realize the arcade scene is not what it used to be, what effect the old environment had on SF2's popularity, etc. I don't really think they'd go around believing they can turn gaming back to 1992 with the release of SFIV.

Ken should not be as high as the power lines for a fierce dragon punch.
Also, the blue fireball reflection on the clothing looks extra corny. Maybe they should make the fireballs white or something. As is, it looks wack.

look at this... Ken starts a fireball but its blocked so he cancels it before leaving himself open for punishment... excitement level just rose a couple notches:D .

I did like that--it reminds me of Makoto canceling her Hayate to fake people out. Wonder if it's that easy to do in SFIV.

Footage looks nice and vibrant like old SF. I just hope they keep working on the animation to make it smoother/more fluid.

The artstyle reminds me heavily of Street Fighter 2. It looks like a Street Fighter game so why are some of you bitching? The animation is sweet and the mechanics seem nice. I'm not a fighter gamer but this peaked my interests from a gameplay point of view :)

I've watched the show now a couple times.

Here's why I have faith :

- Capcom isn't stupid. They know they have the opportunity to re-birth Street Fighter to a new generation. Us 20-30 yrs that grew up in the arcades with quarters on the machine waiting our turn want something that takes into account our dedication to the game at that time and now. I think they're addressing that by tweaking the reversals that IMO got out of hand in SF 3rd Strike.

- The Art. While I don't so much care for the rough edges of the art at this time, it's a bold step in taking fighting games to the next level. I think the character design is a bit more understated than in previous games and hopefully by the release they'll have proportions of the characters are done right. Mind you the game is probably at least 9-12 months from being released so they still have a lot of work to do. Also 3D environments is about the only thing that SF4 and EX have in common. I agree with the comments of EX style of gameplay and it need not apply here. Bits and pieces... maybe... and that's being nice. I'm hoping though for some interaction with the environment as well but we'll see.

- The gameplay. Old school Street Fighter meets new day ideas. I can honestly say I cannot wait to play the demo, beta, final game because it just looks fun. I popped my SF annv. game in last night and played around with both versions and I actually didn't like it after seeing what's coming up in SF4. The ideas of canceling a move and changing up the gameplay is a brilliant idea that if done right is going to make for some very interesting matches both offline and online.

- Online. I think Capcom is going to blow the lid off the gaming world by introducing some revolutionary ideas such as : Create a tournament (IE World Warrior Tournaments) both gamer created and Capcom created, pick your rank (meaning if you're a n00b, you can play in the n00b arena, if you're godlike you can play in the expert zone... etc) or played non-ranked matches or ranked matches depending on your mood. I believe they will add bonus outfits, costumes, stages etc. all tied to online play vs. microtransactions to encourage people to play online; They most likely will have something like Gotham TV where you can hop on and watch the current top fighters battle it out, I also expect lobbies and custom game types (possibly) to be a big draw. Basically everything that we can expect, Capcom is thinking of integrating into this product and will most likely support the product long after it's release on the consoles.

So there's my 2 bits. can't wait to see more!

there is a very visceral response to the cancel, so maybe there is a system where you give up a bar to cancel out of a super/special?

It's almost certainly an EX upper. He flashes yellow and, according to the EGM article, ex moves are the only thing that can be cancelled by dashes.

They look like plastic.

Like plastic action figures that can kick ass.

Looks good, i'm excited that they are staying in the 2D realm of fighters and not going to full 3D (damn you Guilty Gear).
