20 PS4 exclusives and console debuts for 2016

Why the notes on Persona 5?

It wouldn't be an exclusive, console exclusive or a console debut because it's also on PS3!

I reckon it will be PS4 exclusives for teh west just like Tales games and Sta Ocean. PS3 in the west is deader than dead.

Clearly not very familiar with Atlus. This wouldn't be the first time they released games on 'dead' consoles.

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is being released for the PS3 in NA, and Persona 5 was still stated to be released for the PS3 in NA when the delay happened in September 2015.

They've already announced that the PS3 version is coming to NA at least before the PS4 version announcement and they haven't said anything about canceling it.

That makes it a platform exclusive. In Japan and NA anyway, I doubt they'll bother with the PS3 version in Europe in 2018.

TIL PS3 isn't a platform

I am looking forward to picking up Persona 5 on PS3. I hope they don't cancel it.

Of the games that are actually exclusive, it's looking damn good. Uncharted, GT Sport, Horizon, and The Last Guardian will be mine.

Going to be an amazing year ... PS4's 2009 (what it was to the PS3 at least).

I notice that Sony seems VERY confident that GT sports, Horizon, TLG, GR2 and NIER2 will hit in 2016. Which is good, particularly for Horizon which I was getting nervous about.

The other thing I noticed that seems new to me : NMS as a full on console exclusive? I always thought it was a console first?

All the following lack labels:

NieR Automata is exclusive: http://press.na.square-enix.com/releases/470/square-enix-announces-new-title-in-the-nier-series ("exclusively for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system")

Firewatch is a console exclusive: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/06/15/firewatch-launching-on-ps4-this-year/ ("Firewatch is currently in development as a console exclusive for PS4")

I believe Boundless and Paragon were announced as console exclusives. Hellblade and The Witness will probably come to other platforms.

Paragon is console exclusive, yes.
The game supports cross-platform play so Xbox is out of the question.

Paragon is Console Debut.

Will almost sure come to Xbox ONE with or without crossplay with PC.

Just deliver the goods, Sony. If the delay hammer hits hard yet again....
Yep, that's an impressive list and if they deliver, I'm broke. But I'm afraid of them delaying some of them. Hell, if the delay half, it's still a good year with so many 3rd party games. Just don't delay Last Guardian.

The Year of the PS4 has finally begun?

Well, they are expected to release 20 first party IP in 2016 alone if I remembered right

Amplitude (Jan 5)
Hardware Rivals (Jan 5)
Shadow Of The Beast (Jan 26)
Alienation (Mar 1)
MLB 16: The Show (Mar 29)
Ratchet & Clank (Apr 12)
Uncharted 4 (April 26)
Kill Strain
Drawn To Death
Wattam
Bound
Dreams
GT Sport
Horizon: Zero Dawn
The Last Guardian
What Remains of Edith Finch
Everybody's Golf 7
Gravity Rush 2
The Tomorrow Children
RIME

Plus these two attached to PSVR:
RIGS
The Modern Zombie Taxi Co.

I don't agree with the reasoning either lol I just played devil's advocate trying to explain what they said. I think they have good reason to be pushing Dreams like that too.
fair enough ;-) on Dreams,
I hope so, as innovative as it seems, I'm with Colin on this one, I want to play a very fun game first and then jump into creation. I really don't have enough free time to create a lot of content on my own, and even if I did, I still want an enjoyable campaign first and foremost.

I don't think they will, it was announced first for PS3 afterall. In regards to it being in that marketing video, P5 would fit for general purposes under the PS exclusive tagline, it doesn't specify with PS as long as it's in that family, I think this was just had selected titles, mostly highlighting Sony published stuff.

Agreed. The lineup is so good that they would still have a good year if half of those got delayed. However, that would be looming over the year and it would just be nice to have a completely successful year in terms of launches.

I know I am just being optimistic as something major is bound to be delayed but just don't let 1 title moved to 2017 turn into 3 or more...

there's some serious heavy hitters but I think what's good about that list of the great diversity of genres too. Busy year.

Yep, I think the only notable omission is the FPS genre. Anyone saying, "There is nothing that interests me" either has some very particular tastes that do not align with PS or they just aren't interested in the console period.

Those Triple A will sell Milton's of PS4!

Being Scottish, and by association British, which if you squint you could say we were Europe even though we are a tiny island off the coast of nowhere - I am sadder every day that Persona 5 isn't confirmed or what have you for Europe and by extension Scotland (yes yes Wales, England and Ireland you too calm yourselves). Sad sad sad. Still Horizon looks great and Uncharted obviously and if I get to play The Last Guardian and its good then the wait will have been worth it, maybe. Being sad is no way to start 2016 so I am off to listen to the Persona 4 OST. Happy New Year Gaf.

GT Sport: The Messiah.

Third year has always been the streamline, showcase, 'real' offering of a system.

Dreams being Beta only for 2016 caught me by surprise, but you know what; they can take all the time they want with that one. I don't want two sequels within three years. I think three sequels of LBP hurt it overall. I would like for it to be a great big tool-set with frequent updates throughout PS4's life (for the next 4 years). That would build a much better, bigger and more devoted community that splitting that community up between sequels and genres (like the LBP kart and Sony's other custom Kart game...).
With Dreams, Tomorrow's Children and Boundless, building and creation gamers would have a lot to do, I think.

Man, can't wait for the GT effect!

They could actually add a lot more games, specifically Japanese titles to the video. It's a pretty packed year for PS4.

What happened to Ryme?
Cancelled by Crytek!

There's no official release timing for Ni no Kuni II but I believe, based on its originally-scheduled E3 announcement, along with the quality of its debut media, there's a good chance of it releasing this year.

But how many of them are real games & release in the post season where it counts? lol

What is this "real games" nonsense? Like, what?

Rime being missing is sad, but: we have seen more than ever this year that Sony is willing to give games as long as they need to be great and to be finished. And honestly, who wouldn't always prefer that over a rushed or compromised product?

This means some games are getting delayed over and over. Which is the with me. Take the time you need to make an excellent experience without cutting content or skipping the polish.

It will really only be an issue if any of these repeatedly delayed games aren't good. But until that happens, I will always prefer to wait.

Counting Gravity Rush Remastered, there's at least 7 SCEJA games due to release this year.

Gran Turismo SPORT
Gravity Rush 2
Gravity Rush Remastered
The Last Guardian
New Everybody's Golf
The PlayRoom VR
The Tomorrow Children
And the only one I'm not interested in is GOLF.

Horizon: Zero Dawn
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Street Fighter V
Ratchet & Clank (PS4)

The 2016 PS4 games that I'm hyped for. Need to see more from GT: Sport to want it (after how disappointing GT was to me last gen) but I'll still probably end up getting it. I was pumped for No Man's Sky back in 2013 but the delays and drawn out gameplay footage has brought down my hype. I'll more than likely end up getting it though.

Yeah. I don't think Sony themselves are going to go back to attempts at making FPS games anytime soon though. CoD, Destiny and BF are just too dominant.

Did you guys not watch the PGW conference? Dreams "beta in 2016" was there at the end of its presentation.

2017 is the real year of the PS4 with Detroit, Dreams, God of War 4 and most likely Horizon. Plus FFVIIR: Episode One.
2017 I'd expect to see first party games from all these studios:

Quantic Dream (Detroit)
Media Molecule (Dreams)
San Diego Studio (MLB 17: The Show)
Wild Sheep Studio (WiLD)
Santa Monica Studio (God of War or something)
Bend Studio
From Software
Japan Studio / PlayStation C.A.M.P.
London Studio
North West Studio
Ovosonico
Sucker Punch Productions
Supermassive Games
In addition to the surprise indie dev partnerships like Plastic with Bound.

Horizon: Zero Dawn
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Street Fighter V
Ratchet & Clank (PS4)

Yea I'm cautiously optimistic about GT7. Kaz seems to be saying all the right PR, they seem to be getting quality devs from other car teams, and I like how GTS seems like a Segway to GT7 so we get it early. I think they will nail it, GT6 honestly did a lot of things right, just out of touch with some highly requested features from the hardcore

Maybe he'll play some of them on other systems, as some of those aren't exclusives.
Interesting. Promote some games from "meh" to "I'll give a try" just because they are not real exclusivity. We have e reached a new level of opinion.
