2010 FIFA World Cup - Demo out now

WC database Update coming out early next week (Tuesday I think) 177 new players (Morimoto better be one of them. . .) and 4000 plus attribute changes.

It's now or never for a tournament!

Latest thread I could find on this.

A friend brought the Wii version of this over yesterday and I scoffed at the prospect of even trying it, because
  • every single FIFA game on the Wii had been utter rubbish, worse than even the completely outdated PS2 versions at that point
  • the last good FIFA game was France 1998
  • PES is better
  • FIFA sucks anyway

Well, I had to eat some crow.

EA has done something remarkable with the Wii version of this game. Instead of chasing down PES Wii or the PS360 version of the game (and failing utterly and completely every fucking year since 2006), they ditched most of the simulation ambitions and just balls-out took it in an arcade direction, made it into something of a hybrid. Stylised art style with semi-realistically proportioned characters (think Grand Slam Tennis), but the gameplay borrows a lot from older classic arcade games, and newer fun footy games like Soccer Slam or Mario Strikers Charged. Slo-mo shots, effects on the ball, viewpoint changing to behind the ball before a particularly powerful strike - it's all good stuff. The strategic elements of footy are still in there (leading passes, sending players, one-twos, manual passing controls, controlling the keeper directly), but it's coated with an arcade layer (emphasising timing and quick reflexes in crucial scenes) that makes it oh so much more enjoyable to play than the rubbish that came before.

FIFA 2010 for the Wii used pretty much exactly the same system as the Wolrd Cup game, by the way. Every review I read seemed to trash it, so I skipped, even though I thought it looked interesting - I mean, I like the idea of a more arcade / exaggerated version of soccer. Interesting to read somebody finally say some good stuff about it though... anybody else?

Anyone tried the PSP version? I'll be getting a free copy sometime this week because I just bought a Go. I take it that this will be based off the PS2/Wii/PC version? Does this mean that it'll have very few of the recent changes the PS3/360 series has had?

Does anyone know if there are any deals for this game now or coming up before the cup? I'd like to get it, but not for the full 60$.

Target will have it for $47 starting tomorrow and Gamestop.com has it for $49.99 with a $10 credit on a future purchase.

I'd be down for a GAF tourney (360). I'm not that good, but I am liking the game.

I hope that update has Edson Buddle. I want to tear it up with a Buddle/Altidore Front-Line-of-Death. :D

I am not even sure why there wasnt an official thread. I mean its the fucking demo thread ._. This calls for a title change and a OP Update *raises hand*
:D

Ful disclosure: I haven't played the Wii Version of FIFA 10, only tried them up to 08 - which was more than enough to turn me off of the Wii efforts entirely. :lol

But I had a lot of fun with this one so far.

On PS3 this seems especially laggy, probably a combination of not as many people picking up the game and that I live in California. It seems like the game doesn't matchmake on connection quality, but just on next available game? I'd rather wait a while for a good ping than this. It's unfortunate that it seems like people can't quit even out of an incredibly laggy game without getting a loss. There should be a couple minute grace period, or something - as around ten percent of the games I've tried to play were basically unplayable (less than half speed), 25% were extremely laggy - maybe only 10% of my games have seemed lagless - it's damn frustrating (maybe it's better online with the 360?). And I only picked this up because I was craving some online competition :(

Hm. I have the PS3 version as well. And maybe 10 percent of my games are lagging and I only had 1 game which was unplayable. I have another problem though. Its probably the fault of my internet provider but I can only start about every 10th or 20th random game only.

Sucks mightily. Join, start game, wait. Cant connect. Rince. Repeat.

Edit: Oh fun times. Also in one match during the game the game froze on a scene where the fans were celebrating. Neither of us wanted to quit in fear of the loss... Hum. Well took a while to find the winner of that game.

It sounds to me like a NAT problem... you're probably on a strict NAT so you can only play against other people with a strict NAT. You want to be on open NAT, then you can play with everybody, I think. I'm not sure how you change that though (I'm sure somebody here knows).

How? How? How? I tried quite a few things but nothing worked. i would be very thankful if someone could elaborate. I'll be researching though later if noone can share :)
And thanks for the hint. :)

Yeah, it's pretty easy to do, but it differs for each router. So the router model and brand are needed. :o And what's the best course of action depends on how many consoles you have hooked up to the net.

I guess Easybox a601 wont tell you much. Lets just assume I have my PS3 hooked up to the net and basically the only console I regularly use to play online. Plus my Notebook of course.
I would be glad for any kind of advice. :)

Go to http://192.168.0.1 (username and pass should be admin///admin unless you changed or the companies default is something else) not sure how yours looks like but go to firewall(or something else) and find something called DMZ.

If your IP is dynamic just put that in Public IP Address and put in the ip your PS3(should be listen somewhere in the menu of the PS3) it should look like: 192.168.0.10x and put that in Client PC IP Address. Press Add, Apply or something similar. Be sure to enable DMZ. After doing all of that pull out the power cable of the router for a few 20 seconds after turning on the router w8 for 30 seconds and you should be good to go.

If it looks nothing like this can you make some printscreens of http://192.168.0.1 and the of the page if you click on DMZ.

edit: after some googling it seems you access your router by going to http://easy.box/ and login with root///123456.

So, yesterday... victim of the World Cup hype :D , and a tight games-budget... I went to Gamestop to trade-in my copy of FIFA 2010 (ps3) in order to get a copy of the 2010 World Cup game... thanks to this weekend's trade-in offer plus my Edge card I got around $40 dlls for my trade-in and only paid the $10 difference... not bad IMO...

What I wanted to say is that, after playing some games, I'm loving it :D ... I believe the game does look better and smoother than FIFA '10... some extra animations and fixed bugs/exploits are making my time worth it... maybe it's the hype, but I'm not missing the Club teams just yet...

Online is not bad at all... you will find the occasional laggy game, but you can use to connection quality indicator to prevent those, so it's all been good so far... I also found the idea of the Online World Cup fascinating... it builds your team's group on-the-fly with the countries you play against (it seems your online rival is selected by level, since my games have been leveled).. if you manage to classify to the next round, again you will be pitted randomly against the country selected by whoever the online system picks for you.

yep i played it a bunch over the weekend and really enjoyed it. went 3-0 in the group stage with congo being my best accomplishment :D made the final a couple of times but no dice so far.

just wish there were more gaffers to play with (360)

I'll give you a run for your money if I get online at some point. Parenthood is seriously hurting my gaming. :D

so what, is there like a tourney ladder online setup where you get to play from the group stages up to the cup?

explain please.

Pick a team and have a group stage against 3 random other teams. If you qualify for the next round you get paired up against some other person in the round of 16, and so forth. It's all done on the fly.

huh interesting. sounds like that could take a while. 5 min halves?

sounds cool.

6m I think. And you can stop and pick it back up at any time. So I'll just play a game or two and come back to it later. Benefit of group stage not being a true "group" but 3 random people. Works out well though.

They've tweaked regular online games as well. You play a season of 10 games, starting from Division 10. Get more than 16 points, and you'll advance to the next division, less than 9 and you'll be relegated. After the season you'll play a ranked cup (4 rounds, if I'm not mistaken).

There are no extra times or penalties until you get to the cup, so a draw is a draw. I'm currently stuck in Division 8, and with the amount of gaming I've gotten the last month or so, I'll be lucky to make Division 6 before the end of the WC.

Edit: Daigoro, if you have 3 friends who can come over to play the Captain Your Country mode, you should definitely jump in. It's a better game of footie than FIFA 10, and FIFA 11 won't have the same modes.

I had a couple of my friends come over several weekends ago, all amped to try out the CYC mode thinking we could each import our own VIPs....but no dice :(

Anyone else thinks the pitch gameplay is pretty darn solid in its current form? Granted, tactics and formation play can be a little screwed up but it's such a joy to be playing with this amount of realism in ball control, passes and shots. Bring on FIFA11!~

Whoa, is that just regular ranked matches? I've been doing almost only worldcup and vs. friends. Did one ranked match but didn't see any of that stuff, then again I scored 3m in and the guy quit so....

Are they going to update the squads in the game? i'd love to have valdez in my spanish goal. But i'd hate to lose ronnie from brazil.

EA's blog said the update was coming some time today as they were waiting for FIFA to finalize jersey numbers or something along those lines

Zoo magazine in the UK has an exclusive about Fifa 11. Full article is somewhere on youtube

My summary:

Graphics
- improved visual likeness (lol they say this every year)
- greater number of body types
- greater number of animations like Ronaldo's running style
- MULTIPLE SOCK LENGTHS HOLY SHIT PRAISE THE LORD
- Actual facial expressions on the players

Audio
- Can record own chants to play during matches
- Can assign entrance music to when your team comes out

Gameplay
- More difficult to ping-pong the ball from end to end
- Installed "Pro Passing" --> control weight of distribution
- Guys like John Terry can't make intricate through balls (I've found this to be the case in Fifa 10 anyway)
- Swerve passes, driven lobs, fancy flicks, through balls with backspin
- players prone to light stumbles and more collisions
- Player AI improved. Players will adjust to the flight of the ball and not just their own runs
- Goalkeepers won't have the same super human reflexes

Personality
- AI work rate will be like their real life counterpart (Dani Alves trying to get forward as much as possible while may be slow getting back)
- Wayne Rooney hustles all over the pitch while Berbatov is lazy
- Certain moves depending on personality (Tevez will do flicks, Drogba will muscle, etc)

I like those personality ones. Hope they are varied and noticeable. One thing that's always bugged me about the series is that it's very difficult to tell 90% of the players apart, both visually and mechanically. Something PES still does a better job at imo.

I find it hilarious that everytime a new FIFA is announced people go apeshit crazy over kits and apparel rather than how the game plays, I guess its a soccer thing I don't understand yet... :D

Wow, in ranked people quit about 10000000x more than in worldcup. Don't even know why because tell me if i'm wrong but i think if you quit after 5m it's minimum 3-0 loss for you. Pretty sure i'm in the cup right now but I don't even know b/c I got 18 points in my 7th game then played what i THINK is a cup game and the guy quit, then what i THINK is the second CUP game and the guy quit. is there any where to see where you stand?

Yeah, after the game. :D

Also before the game in the team selection screen. It shows your current Division and match.

damn i was afraid of that :lol imo they should put it a bit more front and center like how they have a really nice setup for online worldcup. so far i quite like this approach to ranked matches.

I just picked this up yesterday as sort of an impulse buy at Target. I tried the demo and wasn't thrilled, but bought the game anyway. My second time playing was much better. I beat Mexixo 3-1 on the default settings with the US team. I think once I play it more I'll be hooked. It's one of those games that translates well to a console (like NHL 10) and actually feels like you've done something to setup and score a goal. I don't know a damn thing about soccer so I'm learning as I go. It's a nice change of pace from the normal play throughs of NCAA football and Madden each year. And, since it's World Cup branded I don't need another copy for 4 years.

did you guys see the picture of what happens when nigeria faces germany in this game?

they should probably fix it...(i dont know if its safe to post)

its not Nigeria its another country, Niger. And no they shouldn't fix it, two random abbreviations for country names and people get bent out of shape like they did it on purpose, shut up...

People don't typically quit on me. I've had three quits out of eleven. All of em came at the end of the game when there was no use playing anyway. I try to treat my opponent with as much respect as possible. No celebrations, no replays (except on crazy goals), just game. One dude did quit on me even though I lost to him. I don't know why. He quit like as soon as it did the post game replays and it gave me the win.

I've always been afraid to play FIFA online. I hate sports games online, too much cheesing. But i was sort of forced to with this version. I cleaned out all meaningful offline content relatively quickly. Online isn't so bad. I guess i spent so much time playing against that cheating ass AI that my skills get to translate over a bit. If they could fix this assisted passing a bit i'd be a happy camper. Often i'll be facing who i want to pass it to and it will just go across the body to someone down field like it just doesn't give a fuck. I'd go manual but..... i dunno. I used to roll exclusively on manual passing but it's too hard to put the proper pace short passes especially with that bit of passing lag online so i gave up.

Best Buy is selling 2010 FIFA World Cup for $39.99 from 6/13-6/19.

Applies to both the 360 and PS3 versions.

lets get a mini tourney going!

This happened to me yesterday. Won like 14/16 including some World Cup runs and then all of a sudden it seemed like my guys were literally running away from any opposing offensive movement and meanwhile I was getting swarmed every time I had the ball (and not in a way such that it's easy to outlet). I bailed after two games b/c I just don't have the patience for it, especially if opponents are doing celebrations and watching replays for the stupidest 99%-luck boring-goal shit like a header that's crossed into a crowded box and for no good reason my defender who is right on his man decides to just sit there.

In a way I almost wish they'd do away with custom formations and tactics and the like because I'm always really paranoid about getting cheesed by those although I'm sure that's rarely justified. I also feel like some games your team is just "off" and some games it's "on." Same team can feel totally different game-to-game. If there's anything to that, I liked the PES arrow method which was a lot more transparent about form.
