2010 FIFA World Cup - Demo out now

Hey guys, I bought this game last night basically because I have 3 other friends who have it and they wanted to play '4 player online'. I got on for the first time last night assuming they knew how to do this and they couldn't figure it out. I tried and couldn't figure out how to do anything other than head to head. Can anyone help me set up a 4 player (preferably 2 on each team) match?

i dont think you can do it in World Cup. You can do it in Fifa 10 though. Lame, i know.

In Fifa 10, it's through the "online team play" mode.

I think is an offline only feature. I tried it with one friend and it worked for me but it was offline.

Captain your country > new ccc > select country you'd like to play as > create a new virtual pro or import from fifa 10( might as well create a new one since none of the stuff you have unlocked for your virtual pro play from fifa 10 will make it to WC 10)

You should check the online modes to see if there is a "captain your contry" mode on there.

I read this feature and was super excited as well. "Can we finally have online MP for guys on the same team against the comp?!" I thought, super-giddy at the thought.

Turns out nothing like that still exists.

just like the series itself, fifagaf has been in decline since peaking at euro 08

I think I actually created the official thread for Euro 08 :lol

I'm really enjoying this. There are some nice, little subtle differences in play... such as how headers seem to be a little more sloppy (if that makes any sense) and the default tempo seems to have been increased.

I pretty much picked it up for the same reason AstroLad did; I get the WC itch when the WC is approaching :lol

Well this is some bullshit. why does it say 1-4 players online? Really, the only reason I even bought a FIFA game to begin with was because my friends all wanted to play together. I don't know anything about soccer, so I would have been just as happy with FIFA 10. What a waste. Can anyone definitely confirm that the limit is 2 people online at a time?

Can i just say this game is fantastic. The idea of online world cup is amazing, unfortunatly is hampered by everyone using the top teams. I try and play as Australia, and keep getting paired with Spain, Basil and England. I mean C'MON!!!! You have no chance of winning against these teams with lower nations. Why not just make this mode so that all teams are equal and the skilled player should win? I had high hopes for this mode but am now left with nothing but dissapointment.

I just wrapped up a England player with 4-1, and I missed a penalty :lol, just punish them.

I saw a Congo in my online group stage, and he was very hard to defeat, 2-2 in the end. I'm in the Q-finals of the WC :D

I dont know maybe i suck, but its just they never win a ball if there is a shoulder going on, and pace, oh my. All Spain had to do was run and i could not catch them. That said i just played a game where someone was Norway, and fuck was it an amazing game. So tense, i had so many oppertunitys but could not put them away and lost 2-1. Thats what i thought it would be like. I hope i get lots more like that!

got the game today. and i have to admit that it feels really good.
give me some time to practice. if someone wants to play against me... my PSN nick is DimiKun.

Anyone playing this right now?

Just picked it up for PS3 and would like to get in some online games against lower ranked teams (I use Ireland mostly).

My PS3 tag is: SeanCon

Add me!

Tried the demo and thought I was playing the 2006 version, last FIFA game I played was World Cup 06, the same crappy AI from 06 was in the demo, some of the same exploits to score with ease was in the demo, if this demo is a representation of the final game, it should be called Worldcup 06 with 2010 graphics.

That's kind of sad. FIFA has changed so much since '06. Euro '08 was a big leap forward for the series and then with the introduction of 360 degree dribbling in '10, FIFA has never been better. I wonder what kind of football game would satisfy you since WC10 is the king of gameplay at the moment.

wrong it should be called PES's BITCH just like every other fifa :lol

I finally got rid of this after about a week and a half.

I ended up hating it. I don't know why. At first it felt GREAT but it slowly got more and more frustrating.

Uh, no. And according to what Seabass said about the gameplay innovations this year, the distance between the series is even greater. PES is real, beautiful football. FIFA is arcade garbage. Not to be glib, but anyone who watches football seriously knows which series is best (PES).

Amen. It still hurts at times.

World Cup 2010 is surprisingly fun, even if had doubts about the increase in speed vs FIFA 10. Defending seems harder than in FIFA 10, just got a 2-2 draw with Sweden against Ivory Coast when I used to concede much less opportunities.

Captain Your Country is fun, but playing World Class with Finland is an exercise in frustration, much as following our national team :)

Well I guess that means that are that many ignorant people then! :lol Amazing how they conveniently tune out all the difference between PES' stuttering, robotic, lack of inertia on-the-pitch gameplay and the smooth flowing action they see in live matches.

so this one is good huh?

im getting the itch! WC is coming and im getting damn excited. dunno if im ready to get my ass handed to me over and over again though.

decisions.

I think the feel of the overall atmosphere and passion in the game is sooo good, playing the world cup mode starts of with exitment and freshness, the commentary matching the mood of the beginning of the tournament, fast forward to the semi finals and the tension is ubearable, the crowd going nuts and the commentary and play on the field changes to suit. The final is just unreal, the commentators get drowned out towards the end of the game due to the sheer noise from the crowd !

You know what's bullshit?

No ET in online games. WTF.
Single games? I've only played the online WC mode, so it makes sense in the group stage. Haven't had a draw after that stage, though.

Head to head games, means no PKs when you play against friends, unbelievable really. . .

Wait, who were you playing as? I played as Norway four-five days ago and had an amazing game where I finally won 2-1.

Also, how the fuck do I set up a custom league or cup with just four or whatever number of teams?! We're a bunch of guys playing together in the same living room and we don't want to play the whole fucking Cup god damn it. If we're more than four people one gets put in his own CPU group. Now we have to revert to using a damn spreadsheet and play Kick Off-matches. So tedious.

And there is ET in online matches, just that it is only in cup matches (which you play after the initial 10 league matches).

Oh crap, it was either Turkey or Australia. I think Turkey though. Gamertag AsPiRiNg YoUtH. It was an awesome game, one of the goals was just amazing. I was actually clapping my hands at how brilliant it was.

Also i am proud to say io am much better though. Finally made it to the semi finals but got flogged. Still i was sooo proud of myself :D

EA really needs to patch the rules. Here's what happened tonight:

Round of 16, I'm playing against Argentina with Finland. They're up 2-1, as I get a break. Forssell goes through the defense, only the keeper to beat. Obviously he sprints the keeper up, but I'm smarter than that. I push the ball past the keeper and vision myself blasting it into the empty net, when the keeper slides the legs from under Forssell.

But that's ok, red card to the keeper, right?

No, not quite. Not even a booking. A free kick, and that's it. WTF?

Oh can anyone comment on how the WC 2010 game (PS3 version) is from a beginners point of view? I'm not looking to master it, but just to ease in and play games with my wife and online (in short I suck and I suck at remembering controls). My last time playing sports games was the last gen and not even that much then.

It's pretty noob friendly. Easier than something like Madden certainly to get in the game. It has some rather complex advanced features, but even stuff like slow dribbling, curled shots, etc. you really don't need in games other than to look flashy. Basically you can learn the basics really quickly and then pick up the more detailed stuff as you go along if you want. All you really need to know how to do is move, pass, and shoot.

Yeah, I'm trying that two button control system on the demo, it's really simple, but (and I haven't said this about sport games in a while) easy and fun to play, I could see myself growing into this. Did FIFA 10 have a two button control option?

Also if I had to choose between FIFA 10 and WC, should I just go with WC since all the major leagues are done play for the season?

Depends on how much you are into league vs. national play. WC has way more countries and better atmosphere and presentation. 10 has leagues (and actually focuses heavily on them) and a bit more content in terms of gameplay. Mechanics are roughly the same. I totally forgot about the two-button system. Haven't tried it myself, but honestly the regular control scheme is pretty easy if you just focus on the basics.

Like I said I haven't really played sports games for a long long time lol. I do like League play a lot, but I figure FIFA 11 will be coming around the corner soon (or I can just grab it used at some point). I figure I might go for WC since it's the one currently being played more and will be germane to the next month or two for football. I'm also a whore for presentation. :lol

The 2-button scheme is new to WC, if I'm not mistaken.

Heya. Will there be a GAF tournament? :) Seems fitting with the world cup around the corner.

I would be very willing to join. Any other interested players?

<- PS3 version btw.

Does anyone know if there are any deals for this game now or coming up before the cup? I'd like to get it, but not for the full 60$.

it's tough man fifa games rarely go on sale. even when you try to buy them used they're still expensive as hell. i sold my fifa 10 for like $35 or something just before buying this. they hold their value really well, and just looking at the major nelson list you can see why.

hope you can find a deal tho!

hmmm maybe...

yeah that sounds like a good idea...

i believe you have at least one now...

...nooooooo!

Sry to hear :(
These games really should share servers >_>
Yeah I know. One can dream. Really strange how very few Gaffers seemed to have bought this game. Such a shame. If only for the world cup atmosphere and the slightly better graphics :)

Latest thread I could find on this.

A friend brought the Wii version of this over yesterday and I scoffed at the prospect of even trying it, because
  • every single FIFA game on the Wii had been utter rubbish, worse than even the completely outdated PS2 versions at that point
  • the last good FIFA game was France 1998
  • PES is better
  • FIFA sucks anyway

Well, I had to eat some crow.

EA has done something remarkable with the Wii version of this game. Instead of chasing down PES Wii or the PS360 version of the game (and failing utterly and completely every fucking year since 2006), they ditched most of the simulation ambitions and just balls-out took it in an arcade direction, made it into something of a hybrid. Stylised art style with semi-realistically proportioned characters (think Grand Slam Tennis), but the gameplay borrows a lot from older classic arcade games, and newer fun footy games like Soccer Slam or Mario Strikers Charged. Slo-mo shots, effects on the ball, viewpoint changing to behind the ball before a particularly powerful strike - it's all good stuff. The strategic elements of footy are still in there (leading passes, sending players, one-twos, manual passing controls, controlling the keeper directly), but it's coated with an arcade layer (emphasising timing and quick reflexes in crucial scenes) that makes it oh so much more enjoyable to play than the rubbish that came before.

We basically couldn't put it down and played it more than any other game (including RDR, GoW Collection and Monster Hunter) yesterday. First time in years we didn't play PES when we came together, too. :lol

tl;dr
