Thanks to jim2point0 for the Assassin's Creed IV image used in the banner!

Screenshots with an artsy flair! Use whatever you got to make a screenshot shine! Anything goes, just make it pretty.
Credit goes to Spazznid for creating the original thread, the few Gaffers who started using filters as well as Burning North, who seemingly started it all with the Screenshot community.

  • Limits: 3 images per post. If you have more than 3, make more posts or use thumbnails.
  • Spamming: No more than 3 consecutive posts of the same game. Link to an album of your collection.
  • Naming: Always include the name of the game with the screenshots. Not everyone is a game encyclopedia.
  • Compression: Don't compress your screens or use a host that compresses them (Steam, Imgur, Twitter, and Facebook).
  • Consoles/Emulators: All are welcome.
  • Stretching: Do not post stretched screenshots. Don't take 2.40:1 screens unless you know what you are doing. Panoramas are fine.
  • Spoilers: Please do not post major plot points from games released in the last 2 months.
  • Thinking: Think before you post. Is the shot really worth posting?

  • Photoshop
  • GIMP - Free alternative to Photoshop
  • Zoner PS - Another Photoshop alternative, recommended by Angelus Errare.
  • Faststone - Free, good for resizing if you don't have PS. Can edit photos also.
  • Topaz Simplify - One of the most commonly used filters in the previous thread.
  • Dynamic Auto-Painter - A very nice application that has amazing results.
  • PSPI - Lets you use Photoshop plugins in GIMP
[If you find more I will add them to the OP]

  • Flickr: Two terabytes of storage and great for screenshot library management.
  • Picpar: Brought to you by none other than X3sphere, a simple and efficient image host.
  • Abload: Easy to use, doesn't compress jpegs further, auto-converts bmps to png nicely.
  • Minus: A solid alternative to Abload despite the questionable changes to the layout.

Some examples to start the thread. I will update this in the future with people's favorite shots.

In the same manner as this video, I ran a video of Skyrim through Photoshop CS6's Oil Paint filter (and cranked the brightness and saturation), and I think I ended up with a pretty beautiful look that I would love to experience in a game.

Original video

Filtered result

All credit to Hodilton for capturing the original footage, as my computer can't run those super real looking Skyrim mods, which work the best for filtering.

Neat idea. But all of those images just look like they had a simple photoshop filter applied. =\

I think it shows best on images that are REALLY detailed, and it can look awesome in GIFs.

Here's two from the last thread that I did that I think show off the Topaz filter possibilities well.

I didn't think the filter-thread needed a new counterpart, but I glad there is one. I haven't been screenshotting anything interesting lately. Mostly just Mass Effect 2 and Skyrim. I thought these two shots are worthy enough to post.

Skyrim, 3840x2160, Topaz Simplify, messed with the color balance slightly, added a bit of Gaussian blur to soften the image, Resized to 1080p

Aww, I have a couple of screenshots I just played around with in GIMP and the Oil Paint filter and no matter what I do they come out rubbish.

I think it's probably more the screenshots that what I'm doing to them. One's a pretty dark Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea shot and the other is from Brothers...both of which look pretty oil painting-like in the first place.

Ohh crap.. I want to play skyrim like this. Anyone?

People discussed realtime filters in the last thread, but I believe it was deemed either too taxing or unreliable in motion. That one shot processed over half a minute on my gaming laptop, mind you that was 4k resolution.

There is a free 30-day trial of Topaz Simplify if you want to check that out. I've been using it with GIMP with the pspi plugin (link in the op).

Nice shots VisceralBowl. I like the last one, but that's because I like the watercolor look more.

Saints Row IV, 3840x2160, Topaz Simplify, added a bit of Gaussian blur to soften the image, Resized to 1080p.

Far Cry 3, 3840x2160, Topaz Simplify, added a bit of Gaussian blur to soften the image, Resized to 1080p.

That looks really cool.

Thanks. I have a couple more shots lined up. I'll just have to first see if they like the Simplify filter or not.

I made two versions of each of these, so excuse the repeat shots in the next post.

I wanted to give that style a go. I did one of Fallout 3 as I was testing the filter a couple of months back but I dont think it is good enough to post. Here's one I just did. I decided to go for the old newspaper look rather than line art though. It fits, at least in my mind.

More Far Cry 3 shots as I mentioned. These two wouldn't play ball with the watercolour look so I decided to go another route. I think they came out great.

Far Cry 3, 3840x2160, cropped the original slightly, Topaz Simplify, added a bit of Gaussian blur to soften the image, Resized to 1080p.

This came out interesting. It may look pretty cool with imprint or carved wood filter as well.
