Schoolings will be so rich after today.

I'm surprised athletes from poor countries haven't taken advantage of this and got themselves citizenships from these countries.

1500m is an Olympic event for men but not for women. I guess the ioc doesn't believe women are capapable of swimming that distance? Get with the times ioc

Yeah it's stupid and sexist. They should add the women's 1500 and the men's 800. Possibly the other events they have at FINA world championships as well. The mixed relays are fun as hell.

Olympic committees of developed countries don't pay much. USSwimming might have another bonus as well though. For medals and WR/ORs. Some years back USA Wrestling had a 500K bonus for a gold medal. Not sure if they still have it though.

This is our first gold medal ever. We don't really have good opportunities at an Olympic level.

That's pretty cool. First gold for Singapore and Fiji in the sames games. You guys had won a medal previously?

Wow 6 posts out of 12 thousand! God everyone is just accusing her of doping! And two of the posts are saying everyone does! LOL

I'm sorry, I didn't realize all twelve thousand posts were specifically about the women's 400 IM and 200 IM and the 100 Backstroke. My mistake

And those weren't the only ones during that record setting race. I can't be bothered to look all of them up.

I'm only responding to Kiraly's point about "Plenty enough in this thread" have thrown these accusations at Katinka Hosszu. Can't miss it if you're paying attention.

That's interesting. Why does it affect the 50m race so much and not the others?
No turns to push off of and the relatively short distance makes it a sprint is what I would imagine is the cause. I also think Phelps 100m fly record stood from 08 or 09 until Schooling won

USA half way to 100 medals, pacing ahead of where they were in London. Should easily win the medal race again this time around unless they choke in T&F.

No more than anyone else getting accused of doping including all the US atheletes which was the point.

This doesn't account for endorsements, sponsorships and paid appearances. That's where the real money is at.
Do athletes from other countries make as much bank? Like if Phelps were from Germany for example, would he be near as much of a celeb there as he is here?

holy motherfuck

he didn't breathe at all

That's pretty normal in 50 free. Very rarely do men breathe in the 50 free and if they do, it's only once. Women may breath once or twice.

That's interesting. Why does it affect the 50m race so much and not the others?

It affects other races as well. I think the men's 100M/200M freestyle and 100M butterfly are still from that era as well. Maybe the 400IM too. Other records have been broken due to having athletes who excel in those particular events and the athletes adjusting to no super suit and better training
and PEDs
.

Pretty sure there is no 500k prize for a gold medal in wrestling.

I am pretty sure it was 500K when Cejudo won one in 2008, but I am too lazy to search.

It is 250K for gold in 2016 though:

Any more medals tonight? or we done for the day?
That's it I think. NBC just aired a heart throbbing commercial that Phelps' last race of his career is tomorrow night :'(

Wait there's a women's 50 freestyle tonight but I'm not sure if it's a final

That's just the money if you win a medal. The fact is the support for local athletes is in a deplorable state. Our local rower who qualified for the Rio Olympics had to use her own savings and needed crowdfunding to support her training. It is just a shame.
