Line touch is only a violation in the curves b/c it's a shorter path, so Japan is safe. Ours in 2012 was in a corner. CBC just clarified the rule.

Wow there's no video evidence of the GB 4x400 error.

So Brazil get bumped based on a judges decision and nothing else.

Bullllllshit.

why are people posting stuff like feeling bad for gay but fuck gatlin? both are dopers. unless there's some other reason to dislike gatlin, but he seems okay in interviews.

blake and powell were also busted.

I had no idea about Gay, Blake or Powell, fuck all of them too then.

Oh well, at least Canada and Japan are not tainted as far as we know.

I just hope Bolt never tests positive, that would really crush me.

Maybe because Gatlin tested positive twice, which should result in lifetime ban.

The first positive was because he was taking medication for ADHD which had steroids in it. Not exactly performance enhancing.

I just hope Bolt never tests positive, that would really crush me.

Oh man, if it were to ever be revealed that Bolt was juiced, I think that'd be a bigger fall from grace than Lance Armstrong.

Fuck...

People conveniently forget it was for ADHD medication which he essentially won a ruling of taking it for non-competitive reasons and was reinstated early.

I'm not defending doping but damn people acting like he's the only track athlete that ever tested positive.

I was at London 2012 and saw the 4x100m final there, and remembered a similar moment when the Canadian bronze medallists were celebrating in front of us and then suddenly had their run DQed. They were distraught.

I've found my pictures from then:

Also of note: Looking through the captions I had on those pictures, I'm amused by the observation I made earlier that there were audible boos for Justin Gatlin which changed to cheers when they moved on to Tyson Gay. Not sure that would be the same now!

Stop defending teachers because other people cheat too

Also not everyone cheats as much or cheats the same way. So yeah Gatlin is one of many but a cheater nonetheless. I'm glad he didn't get another medal.

It's so fucking arbitrary who we give a pass for vs who we condemn too.

I almost hate the sanctimony more than the doping itself

Just like with the Tour De France winners - it's between those who have been caught and those who haven't been caught yet in mind. I just don't worry about it.

Adderall and Vyvance had been banned in MLG for obvious reasons but I didn't know it could help you run faster

Woooot Bronze!! Happy for Canada, Japan and motherfuckin BOLT!!

De Grasse is incredible, what a comeback to put them in contention for bronze. 2 more meters and Silver is theirs, thats how well he ran.

Yeah, but what an epic ending to that bout. Especially after most of the Taekwondo has been straight "run and hide behind the ref or hug the opponent" garbage.
I'm kind of curious that it looked like none of those punches were registered. I was wondering for a while if the hardware was broken.

Man the Gatlin hate is so extreme. Yes the dude doped (as have many sprinters who ran in this race) but it's be like 8 years and he's been clean. When the fuck are people going to get over it? You don't need to like him but the seething hate is so extreme. Jesus. And I'm Canadian so I benefit from this fuck up (go De Grasse!!!) but jesus, the hate is so arbitrary.

Japan winning the gold in Tokyo.

Stadium is gonna be lit lol.

That surprisingly seems like a real possibility unless Jamaica has solid replacements. Japan actually beat Jamaica in one of the qualifying rounds when Bolt wasn't part of the race. He's the difference maker.

Are they still talking of yanking one of Bolt's gold medals because of the doping of his teammate on the retest this year?
Yes he will lose the 2008 relay gold if nesta carters "b" sample confirms the doping drug. Then bolt will only have 8 golds

Edit: actually it looks like it's confirmed through rumors but they haven't decided punishment yet. Jamaica has been notified someone tested positive from 2008

Yo, why is India so weak at the Olympics?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_at_the_Olympics

That's crazy.

Well until recently it was relatively poor. It is also a democracy with many distinct ethnic communities and states as diverse as Europe. So they cannot run a government program like the authoritarian Chinese that essentially take prodigies as children and make them train their whole lives in diving or gymnastics or other things, only seeing family on holidays. They are prone to corruption, favoritism etc. Sports are woefully underfunded. They do not have sponsorships and corporate funding. There is no Nike building college gyms, no Speedo building olympic pools or providing equipment. Often times, you have seen the Indian diaspora in Canada, UK or USA help fund Indian athletes or committees.

India's gymnast Deepa who is only the 5th gymnast to ever land a Produnova vault in competition and came 4th this year in the vault finals essentially trained with ramshackle equipment and cardboard and fought accusations of sleeping with her coach because no young woman should spend that much time with a man. Sports are seen as an afterthought to school or higher education. Who wants to see their kid be a poor kayaker or bmx bike rider when they can be a rich doctor or computer programmer etc.

India's only medalists are usually the rich elites who can afford decent training and international coaches, or are prodigies who if born elsewhere would have been successful.

Another example, India used to be the dominant force in field hockey when it was played on grass. Multiple gold medals. And then they switched to astro turf where everyone in Europe and the US and west can train, but very hard for any Indians to find astro turf to train and so they all of a sudden went from dominant to also-rans.

He's been banned multiple times, you don't get 8 year bans for minor infringements, he's unrepentant and he generally seems a bit cuntish. No other sprinter is (known to be) on the same level, nothing arbitary about it.

Welp, seems like Brazil's volleyball team are going to make the Gold Medal match against Italy.

Same level as what? Doping? Also, he was banned for 4 years.

Just to be clear. He had a four year ban.

O shit this British diver is gay?

Daley? Yeah. He came out in 2013.

Speaking of which, one of the interesting side-effects of progress was highlighted today: For the first time in ages, a married couple earned a medal together - Helen and Kate Richardson-Walsh in our hockey team. That's something that couldn't have happened until fairly recently, previously it would have only been possible in mixed team events, which there aren't that many of. (the previous example was a husband and wife sailing team in the early days of the modern Olympics)

To think Japan could have won gold, if it wasn't for Bolt. Signing off in style and making more history.

Very exciting for 2020. Japan showing they will challenge the US in the medal counts the way they sent athletes to Rio and the money they are spending on athletics now, just like China did.

Oh fuck. So Bolt is only going to have 8 golds after all? That's a downer to end his Olympic career on.
