If it wasn't for Bolt Japan would have had the gold. Can you imagine that?

So basically India are decent to great with any sports that needs to be played with a racquet.

Very exciting for 2020. Japan showing they will challenge the US in the medal counts the way they sent athletes to Rio and the money they are spending on athletics now, just like China did.

Lol no they won't challenge the US

China made huuuuuge strides in 2000 and 2004 before they broke through in 2008.

Japan's not there yet. They'll have a good showing and end in the top 4 in medals, but that's a long way from challenging the United States

He's been banned multiple times, you don't get 8 year bans for minor infringements, he's unrepentant and he generally seems a bit cuntish. No other sprinter is (known to be) on the same level, nothing arbitary about it.

Like I said, you don't have to like him but he's been running clean for like 6 years. The hurricane of boos, the people reveling in his failure. It's so excessive. And honestly, the vast bulk of the field has cheaters. The extent of people hating him is basically based on "he's a cheater!!", hey guess what most of the field has at some time. If you don't like cheating that's fine bit the level is just too much.

Just to be clear: he had a lifetime ban, which was reduced to eight years, which was reduced to four years, which should have stayed at lifetime.
Russian swimmer still competed. He's not the only one.

Edit: it's hilarious to think how people were whining that nobody would give the US dopers crap when they get far more flak than any other nation here

Doping apparently can still give you benefits that last for years muscle-wise.

Eliza McCartney was a good story from tonight. Only 19 years old and gets Bronze! I think she even surprised herself.

They just beat the US in 4x100m relay mens sprinting. 'Challenge' means that in a lot of events, they will challenge the US for medals. I didn't say they would top the podium. But you could theoretically see them be 2nd or 3rd in overall medal count. They are doing good for Rio with a fraction of the money and support they will get over the next 4 years.

I just hope we don't find out in x number of years that an old sample from Bolt tested positive.

I've read the articles and know the ridiculousness of his times and that they only compare to known dopers, but I really just want him to be a complete freak of nature that is just that much better than everyone else.

Hahahaha this is great, the Canadian team was in the middle of an interview with SRC (french version of the CBC). It's the journalist that told them the news.

GB had a sprinter Dwain Chambers. He was massively disliked by everyone including his own team who didn't even want him to compete. He was at London and nobody wanted him there.

It's not just the US.

Seems like we're gonna fall about 4-6 short of the gold count from 2012, but the total will be higher.

105 vs 103 already.

Hmmm? They're fifth in total and 6th in gold, but Russia, GB, and China outpaces them by massive massive amounts.

It's extremely unlikely they end #2 no matter how you slice it.

The gag is even if he dopes, he's still a freak of nature and that much better than everybody else.

lol being dense? They're two totally different words and the letters are not close to the same order.

LOL give me a break english isn't my first language

We were talking about cheaters. The rest of mty message was about cheating and yet you couldn't see that I just had a brainfart and said teachers instead of cheaters.

Please stop you're just trying to deflect the subject.

VENGEANCE

GET SCHOOLED RUSSIA

Brazil x Italy now. It couldn't be any different, the biggest rivalry in Volleyball history to decide Rio-2016.

One country that used to be really good at the summer olympics is Romania. 53 medals in LA; 26 medals sixteen years later in Sydney; 4 medals sixteen years later in Rio...That's quite the fall even considering LA wasn't fully attended.

As a Jamaican I am heart broken at the thought of no more Bolt livening up the Olympics

We all feel the same way bro. Not just jamaicans

Anyway Bolt is the greatest ambassador you could ever hope for (I mean no one can beat the legend Bob Marley but well Bolt came pretty close lol )

What I love about Usain Bolt is that he just say it like it is. He knows he is the greatest sprinter in history and he will remain you he is the best in every interview. I remember days ago they asked him about how he felt about the 200 meters and he said something in the like "I fell great and the gold medal is a lock" I'm tired of the same run-of-the-mills interviews of 99% of athletes talking about being humble and blah blah blah. Being humble in sports in overrated anyway.

Their gymnastics team didn't even qualify for these Olympics, which is where they used to destroy everyone else.

Such a shame the entire world is gonna go back to not caring about track and field unless someone else comes along to challenge Bolt's record.
