I wonder if the Mario/Sonic ones sell better, and so the IOC figured it was a better use of their license.

Edit: Well I'll be damned, first one sold 7 million on the wii and 4 million on the DS. Sales declined sharply after but still I imagine better than what the typical tie-in would do.

Yes? Spain, France, and Austrailia all have good teams. I would say Russia as well, but I think they got disqualified. US is just better then everyone else by a very large margin. If you mean like WNBA idk. Lots of international players play in the WNBA tho.

Why does it matter anyway if it is or not?

That's like asking if table tennis is a thing outside of China.

Absolutely. Many of the top US basketball players make most of their money by playing in Europe. For example, last year Diana Taurasi's Russian team asked her to sit out the entire WNBA season. And she agreed to do that. Why? Because she makes 107k a season in the WNBA vs. 1.5m in Russia.

It doesn't. just seemed like a sport that's only really a thing in the US with college ball and the WNBA so not exactly surprising that americana would dominate. I never heard of a league in europe, i do see some mens ball on tv tho.

Heard about that but afaik that's just rich russians throwing money around, heard that the league doesn't really make that much money to justify that contract.
 
I can respect diving, but I just see how it can be judged without slomo replays.

I feel like 90% ofvthe score is just the splash and not anything to do with form

Sure, that's one of the more extreme examples, but you do simply make more by playing overseas. Here's an article from 2012 talking about it

To get a sense of the pay difference between the two leagues, the WNBA salary cap for 2012 is $878,000 per team and the maximum salary for a player is $105,000. The Atlanta Hawks' Joe Johnson will make more than $219,000 a game in this lockout-shortened season.

Marquee players can make as much $600,000, including incentives, for one season. With virtually no salary restrictions, two or three players can reach $1 million, including bonuses, Levy said. Lauren Jackson, Parker and Taurasi will make $1 million playing overseas this season.

Here's the quote about russian ball not trying to be profitable:

The entire dive is judged - from the moment the diver goes into a handstand to the form of the jump, to the entry. The entry has the most weight, but the other factors are pretty important as well. Unfortunately, it's hard for a viewer to be able to see a dive with the same level of nuance.
