Japan's not in medal contention in individual 100m or 200m men's races right? So how do they dominate in the 4x100m men's relay?

Because the relay is more than just sheer 100m straight track running or 200m bend running. It very much depends on how you start and how efficient you are with handoffs and run each leg. Remove Bolt from the equation and you very much have races and relays that are separated by mere hundredths of even thousandths.

The Japanese ran their heart out and won silver. If you look at the race again, aside from Bolt, Japan, USA, Canada were very close to each other.

No.

I already don't like equestrian events in what is suppose to be a competition of human achievement, but having the pentathlon competitors have to endure getting their dreams dashed by something completely outside their control with an unfamiliar horse is just shit.

Rhythmic is so good I'm gonna watch from the stream to avoid NBC's in-progress commercial breaks... and rewind to catch the hoops.

I agree... Those rules are just weird.

It's unfamiliar AND not really fair, since horses are not equal...

GBR in second on the modern pentathlon for the final (double) event!
We might have missed out on a medal on the women's side for the first time, but the men have never won one, so... We'll see.

Random question - was this the first Olympics that wasn't accompanied by an official video game?

If there was one, I haven't seen it.

1988 Seoul / Calgary were the last to not have one, since then all of them had one.

edit: i read that wrong.

How would that make you sexist?

it's a joke on that wapo thread that said that it's sexist that women have to wear fancy dresses to perform, like they do in RG.

I wonder if the Mario/Sonic ones sell better, and so the IOC figured it was a better use of their license.

Edit: Well I'll be damned, first one sold 7 million on the wii and 4 million on the DS. Sales declined sharply after but still I imagine better than what the typical tie-in would do.

Meh. I know the "normal" ones were a bit shit, but sometimes they were fun to pick up cheap or rent for some fun.

Although, as you say, the Mario/Sonic thing probably helps sales.

GG Russia in handball...

So close and yet so far. Great performance of both french goalkeepers, but the offensive was lacking a bit :/

I would have thought there's room for a realistic one and a cartoon one... But maybe it's becoming too expensive to create several dozen realistic sports.
