Definitely forget the slight emptiness that creeps up when the final day hits. But the winter games aren't far off and I'm looking forward to Tokyo a lot!

Yeah. Swimming people are usually gone. I think it must feel weird to be in Rio for a week with nothing to do; lots of these people have other stuff to do I imagine.

I always figured they tuck around to watch other events, cheer on their countrymen. I get why some of the US Swimmers left. Would be totally inappropriate for them to attend, but I thought they would be an exception to the rule.

Yeah, I always feel that way. And I enjoy the 2 weeks where the world seems to come together and everyone is friendlier. I felt that a little bit more with London but it was still good here. I kinda feel like people stop paying attention the more we lose like..people watching TV and sitting around in front of a TV every night. But still cool.

Oh, the paraolympics only start on 7 of setember. I tought it was almost imediately.

Well, 2 more weeks to go back to the stadiums!

yep. then after that I'm afraid they'll begin their decay until they start looking like Olympic park in Athens

Despite its fair share of scandals, I truly believe the Olympics are a major force for good in the world. Doesn't mean it's perfect, far from it. But I would definately not want to see it go.

they really should do it first. it feels like all the hype goes after tonight.

That's a really good idea actually. No offense to paralympians but it just doesn't have the same coverage or appeal as the main olympics. And in a concert the headliner never plays first, but people will come early for the opening acts. The paralympics can be a great "opening act" and it could boost attendance significantly if the paralympians competed before the olympians

The commentators kept making the point that the intent is to make it not look too folkloristic.

It does feel slightly folkloristic.

I agree, maybe they will rethink it for Tokyo.

it would also stop them robbing the money which is shameful

imagine you had an opening ceremony, paralympics, olympics then closing. A solid month or so of sport and everyone is included.
