Hearing someone compliment Nintendo instead of Sony is like stabbing a dagger into your fanboy heart, isn't it? Hey, I have a crazy idea. What if two systems could have a good year without having to shit on one to appreciate the other?8 games across an entire year represents an amazing lineup?
What do you call the PS3's year then?
God of War, Last of Us, Bioshock, Puppeteer, Ratchet, Ni no Kuni, Metal Gear Rising, Tales of Xillia, Project Diva, GTAV, Final Fantasy XIV, Dragon's Crown, Saint's Row IV, Diablo 3, The Wolf Among Us, Gran Turismo 6..... and I'm sure I'm missing a ton of other games too.
Looking forward, it seems like the 3DS will slow down next year in favor of the Wii U. So far we know about the new Kirby game as well as Smash Bros., but not much else. Personally, I'm fine with it. I'm just happy they managed to cover so many great franchises already, even some that the DS never touched (like Kid Icarus.) I guess we can talk about what we would like to see in 2014, but this thread is mainly to celebrate and highlight how awesome 3DS was this year.
Why? It's silly to make any calls whatsoever at this point. After the gigantic turnaround we've seen with Mario and Zelda this year, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason they haven't shown anything since E3 from that game is because they're trying to make it better in light of the reception. It's way way waaaaaaaaaay too early to write this one off.
We didn't know about a majority of the games in the OP last year. They will slowly announce the 2014 lineup after Christmas. I'm not sure it will be as impressive as this year's though since they might be shifting their focus to the Wii U.I was just thinking yesterday, if 2014 will be 3DS' last year before a successor shows up.
As you said not much has been announced so far.
Is it just me or did the DS had a more vibrant third party library at this point in its life?
Maybe Pokemon X too but to be honest knowing it's still the same game frustrates me quite a bit.
Same game as Y?
Same game as previous Pokémon titles.
Then again he has no problems with buying Mario & Luigi, Luigi's Mansion and Zelda which are even more similiar to past titles.

on topic: yes, it was an amazing year. If we include games like BD, Layton, Inazuma Eleven, AA5 and so on we get one of the strongest annual lineups ever. 3DS is the king this year
Same game as previous Pokémon titles.

Yeah, we started knowing more about 2013DS back in February; and then, April for the onslaught.
So far, next year in US is
Mario Golf: World Tour
Yoshi's New Island
Super Smash Bros.
Kirby
Bravely Default
Professor Layton and the Aslant Legacy
Professor Layton v.s. Ace Attorney
Sayonara Umihara Kawase
Iron Fall
Quite possible
Monster Hunter 4
One Piece: Unlimited World Red
Harvest Moon: Linking to the New World
Devil Survivor 2: Break Code
Did I forget anything?

This is no different than any other long-running series. There's a reason it's a franchise. Plus, anyone who's heavily invested in Pokémon and its battle system will tell you there's more to it than a few "really minor tweaks". If they were to change the core mechanics, it wouldn't be Pokémon. It's not a 100% accurate comparison. Every pokemon game is exactly the same each time with a few really minor tweaks that isn't enough to make it feel like I'm not playing the same game again.

Yup, that post backfired quickly.
So if a good line up isn't to your taste liking it makes you a "cheerleader", and while these "cheerleader threads" are worthy of your ire, derailing them with your own cheerleader post about a completely unrelated system is totally different and not annoying at all? Gotcha.I fail to see how, but whatever. Cheerleader threads are sort of a pet peeve of mine, especially when the actual number of games listed aren't all that impressive even when you throw in the third party stuff. It works out to maybe 1 potentially interesting game a month? That's enough for my buying habits I guess but that's assuming that each and every game is going to fit a specific taste. In my view for a system to have a "Great" lineup for a year it has to cover a far larger spread of tastes and all of which are high quality within their respective genres.
DS had "Great" years, Super Nintendo had "Great" years. 3DS had a good one. It might have some great years ahead of it, but I can't see that lineup as fitting that bill.

Yup, awesome year alright. While there are some 3rd party efforts too, I can't help but notice.. they're all first party titles. Not sure its really fair to say its been a great 2013 when its just been mostly Nintendo pushing the titles for it, not that I'm complaining , but it could be much better with 3rd parties.
