3DS in 2014 | Games to look forward to?

What bothers me is that they've gone completely silent on the game. At this point there's no way for us to tell when it's coming out. If it's actually coming out, publishers can change their mind.

They never gave a release date for SMT4 (or even a time frame) and it's not published by Atlus because the latter doesn't give a fuck about Europe. Wait, do we even know who's publishing it?

It's not that Atlus doesn't care about Europe, it's that establishing an entire branch for distribution really isn't anything to sneeze at. Were it that easy, I'm sure they'd set it up in a heartbeat, but it's not, so yeah... With Nintendo publishing it themselves, that game's going to get thrown to the wind moreso than usual. I could even see them delaying it until around the time the Fire Emblem collaboration comes out.

Anyway, looking at Atlus USA's output this year, we've gotten:
Etrian 4: February
Soul Hackers: April
SMT4: July
Etrian Untold: October

Two of which had pretty extensive voice acting, while one had a decent bit. Since the added chapter for Break Record is supposedly as long as the original game, that still gives them half a game already localized if they use the DS version's script. So unless they're going to do something crazy for Persona 5 like a worldwide release, I can easily see them releasing Break Record, Q, Arena 2, and Dancing All Night this year, though that would likely push 5 into early 2015.

The only game I'm interested for 3DS next year is Bravely Default and that's it(unless they show new games I'm interested at). Almost most of my anticipating games are WiiU games.

If Beril gets out another eshop game in 2014 I'll certainly buy it after gunman clive, but since he apparently put the zeldalike on hold IDK if he's doing anything else right now.

I really wasn't too into Soul Hackers. It was boring and slow, in my opinion. A bit monotonous, you might say. I know some folks love it, and more power to them. I'm glad for them!

I'm fucking LOVING SMT4, though. It's amazing in all the ways I was bored by SH. I'm also a big fan of Persona 3 and intend to play Persona 4 early next year.

Seeing that Persona Q is styled after EO, do you guys think it will play closer to SMT4 or SH? I know it'll play nothing like Persona 3, because didn't they already say that it wouldn't have all the cool social stuff? I loved joining clubs and going on dates and exploring the school!

If Q is just EO with Persona characters I might just pass, but if it's more akin to SMT4 or Persona I'm gonna jump day one.

Speaking of Persona Q, is it first-person or third-person? Did they say anything or was hinted it?

Probably first-person since it's based on EO4

Which is where I'm getting a bit confused. I haven't been able to really "love" the EO series (Though I've only played 1), nor Soul Hackers. I'm in LOVE with SMT4 right now and the combat in that is first-person.

I'm having a hard time understanding why I'm so into SMT4 and not the others. Does being able to see my character when I'm in dungeons make so much difference? Because really all it is is perspective. Maybe it's the physicality of running around in third-person that does it. The actual combat is pretty darn similar to my mind.

It's been a long time since SH for me, and YEEEEARS since EO. I feel like I keep trying to love that genre of game but just can't. It's weird because I grew up on the DnD Gold Box games for my trusty Tandy 1000 HX, so I don't know why I can't connect with them.

Anyways, I'm looking quite forward to seeing if they can make Persona Q as dynamic and exciting to me as SMT4.

I know what you are saying. I loved Soul Hackers, but games where you explore the world in first person are harder to enjoy than those where you can see your environment and the character better, like in SMTIV. Also the reason why you might be loving SMTIV way more than SH is because the former is much more polished and modern, unlike SH which in parts (presentation and level-design mostly) feel outdated.

It's not going to play much like Soul Hackers at all, other than the perspective. If you haven't, give the demos for IV and Untold a try (if you can deal with not having pre-made characters, I'd say IV is a MUCH better game, though). I personally got really tired of Soul Hackers, too. I bought it day one, but will probably never touch it again, despite forcing myself about 90% through. Etrian 1 also hasn't aged that well, and I'd argue that there were parts of it that were outdated right when it first came out. The 3DS games have done a really good job of refining the formula and getting you to the real meat if the game.

So if there was anything you liked at all in 1, I'd give the demos a shot, since their save data transfer to the full game.

Not super excited about games coming out in 2014. Smash Bros is pretty much it.
I want Yoshi to be good, but to be frank, it looks like the SNES game but watered down with a worse visual style.

Does anybody know if the AVGN game is still coming out for 3DS? It was announced for it, but I haven't seen any news about it. It looked rad.

The director of the game said persona q will first and foremost be for persona fans even with eo gameplay

I may not have that much money next year, but at bare minimum I want:

Bravely Default
Super Smash Bros.
Layton vs Wright

Will be a good year, if any of the games catch my interest I will try for them too. :)

As much as I like my 3DS there isn't a whole lot to look forward to imo.
Smash bros is the one game I will buy even though I'm not a big fan of the series, not one other announced game interests me even the slightest.

Edit: two posts in the same thread about the same thing. My memory is getting flaky.

Wow, that list in OP looks so bad! I'm still debating between Vita and 2DS and to be honest that list is not encouraging me to invest in 2DS. Hopefuly we'll hear more plans in the coming months but I also wonder how much more EU gonna be screwed compared to US owners of 3DS. I really wanna play FE, EOIV and eventually SMTIV but I won't buy the system for 3 games! Come on, Nintendo, gives us more rpgs/sjrpg :P

Yea get a Vita! Such an awesome lineup for 2014!

Hopefully we'll get Zero Escape 3 (999 and VLR sequel) this year.

I hope so too, sounds unlikely though.

I'm really interested in Layton v Ace Attorney and PL6 (Azaran Legacies). Persona Q looks interesting, is it an RPG?
Yoshi's Island looks nice but basically its the SNES version with updated graphics!

I'm a 3DS XL owner and I must say I'm VERY impressed with the platform so far. I didn't expect this from Nintendo, but I think the technical capabilities are actually quite well, especially compared to the processing power of new phones and the Vita. It even does some multitasking with Miiverse, Messages etc. inbetween games. Games look very impressive especially Resident Evil, Mario and Link Between Worlds. Developers who can handle hardware well can get a lot of power out of it and I don't think it's that far off from the Vita anymore, especially since developers have had a lot of time getting familiar with the hardware. I'm already looking forward to what 2014 is going to bring :-)

I'm sorry but compared to VITA that list is amazing.

I have a VITA and a 3DS and I would easily recommend the 3DS to anyone.

I'm really very happy with my 3DS XL, the only annoying thing is the region lock so you can't play 3DS games from USA/Japan if you're in Europe :( As a VN fan, this makes me sad :(

It's good that I have a small backlog of titles I need to catch up. The 2014 lineup doesn't really interest me at all.

I think there's already art out there of their 3DS game.

That's exactly what I meant. There is not. What people chose to believe is concept art for a random MLSI 3DS game is just part of a recruitment ad, nothing more. The part where people say this is from an original game they're working on is 100% speculation. Of course the team that worked on Project X Zone might be working on other stuff by now but that also is complete speculation. Their secondary studio is definitely not working on an original game, though, as we know that they are entirely focused on being a support studio (assisting Nintendo EAD with a lot of games such as ALBW, Animal Crossing, Skyward Sword, Pikmin 3...) comprised mostly of artists.

People continue to spread this misinformation about a mythical 3DS game from MLSI. Please stop doing that unless/until something gets announced. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they put the PxZ team on X to get that out the door 'on time.' (whenever that is)
