UPS My Choice is sort of useful to have--they'll e-mail you whenever they have a package to be delivered to you, will tell you a rough window (four hours) of about when to expect delivery, etc. You can guess where about in your delivery guy's day your package is based on the window they give you (mine's in the last group of neighborhoods, I always get the 3-7 window.)

I will say my UPS guy has been coming later and later lately--I got something at about eight last night, as opposed to the five/six I usually get deliveries. Seems early for Christmas volume to be pushing back delivery times.

My delivery guys TERRIBLE here as well.

Last Thanksgiving (the Friday before actually) expected delivery that morning...Never came. Called them at like 5pm and bitched hard cause naturally it was delivery day, but moreso cause we got the "no one home" message online. I usually dont care but this was medication for a sick dog and it was right before Thanksgiving weekend so who knows when my dog wouldve got his medicine. The manager personally delivered.

Occasion after that I ordered a monitor and when Kid got home she walked in with soaking wet monitor box that was left in the rainy street!

all in all last year probably expected 20 deliveries and maybe 5 got here without hitch...Im not talking you said 5am and its now 8AM...more like you said tuesday and now its friday.

We actually had a dick try to comeback same day after we called who said he put one them stickers on garage when he was here and pointed to it........

8:30pm . . . nothing.

WTF is this?! You drive a truck around and drop off packages. Quit acting like this is a difficult thing to accomplish.

Dude, i live right by the post office warehouse but i don't get any post till around 1pm, deal with it

My UPS guy is awesome. Even quickly chatted with him about the Cardinals and let him know what was happening in the game yesterday.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize I shouldn't expect to get something I damn well paid for. That's quite the opposite of being entitled.

Yeah, you're a selfish piece of shit. Let me guess, when you do get it you'll be like "Oh, why thank you Mr. Delivery man!" and not have the balls to complain to him to his face, and will just come back to NeoGAF to shit all over him here?

You're an asshole.

yeah I should've stated above all my problems were with FEDEX. My UPS guy mad cool as well. Always a polite conversation about something and I honestly can only recall 1 problem with him. He dropped a grill pulling outta truck. He repeatedly apologized. I said dont sweat it (accidents happen and that thing was fucking heavy) ill look see if theres any probs. There was 2 busted grates....Called the manufacturer, said they came that way, and they sent new ones right out.

So I paid for deliver today and expect to get it, and I'm a selfish piece of shit? OK, you obviously have never had to actually answer to anyone or take personal responsibility for your life, so I'm not surprised you'd see things this way.

Considering it's after 9pm now and I would like to go to bed at some point tonight, if he wakes me up to deliver this thing at this point he damn well is going to get a piece of my mind.

And you'll come out not accomplishing anything but making yourself look like a total piece of shit.

Also, the rest of your post made me laugh. Just because I actually have respect for other people, that means I have never had to answer to anyone or take responsibility for my life. What the hell? So fucking stupid, hahaha.

Yes.
Ok, then you should probably give the person some slack because they've had a hell of a long day.

If the status changes then be pissed.

OP is having a jerk day. We all have those, but just recognize that you are throwing a toddler's style temper tantrum.

Bad day?

Wow. You come off as a whiny, impatient, entitled jerk. It's just a package.

That he paid for and paid shipping for.

I hate how people just are willing to take it from major corporations these days.

Of course he's entitled. He paid for his item and the shipping.

Most delivery men are out until 7pm at night. Hell, some I know work until even later to get packages deliver.

Quit being a selfish asshole and realize that delivery men aren't just delivering your one package. Something might have come up, they got backed up, super bad traffic took up much of their time, or they were running late and didn't want to waste their entire night for something that could wait until tomorrow.

Sure, like the time I was waiting for three items to be redelivered and the delivery guy dropped off only one. I ran out to his truck before he took off and asked where the other two were. He said "only got one for you mate", then showing him my card-to-call that had three item barcodes on it he finally bothered to check the back of the truck. Surprise surprise there were my other two items. "Oh, I didn't see those before" he said dumbfounded. So not only are you lazy, but blind too? Great.

Grrr.

The problem is that the anger thusfar has been directed at the delivery guy, who isn't a major corporation. He's a guy with a truck and likely a fuckton of packages to deliver, and unfortunately time doesn't speed up or slow down based on how many packages he has on his route on a given day.

OP wants to blast UPS for overloading drivers, that's cool. But talking about wanting to give a delivery guy who's been out since 5:30AM a piece of your mind if he shows up after 9PM to deliver a package is a bit... extreme.

Just called UPS, the woman left a message with the local distribution center for them to contact me in the morning and give me a reason for why the driver did not come to my residence today, why the status, hasn't updated, and assure me my package will arrive tomorrow.

I'm gonna go ahead and call you out for calling him a piece of shit, then saying you have respect for other people. That's not respectful discourse.

Did you pay for UPS/Fedex Ground or Overnight or 2 Day Air/Express? Essentially there's a difference because if you only pay for Ground they can kind of tell you it gets there when it gets there and they give you a delivery ESTIMATE.

Overnight however is a different breed and while it's not going to matter much to you probably at this point (because you just want the stuff you paid for when you paid for it) Regardless, you would be able to get your money back.

Years ago, I ordered something from Apple with overnight delivery. For two weeks it was, "out for delivery" and noone at UPS would help and I was told daily, "it's on the truck now, it'll be there tonight" So, here I was two weeks later, 10 PM and I see some car lights in my driveway. I go outside to see the UPS guy slowly backing away from my delivery on the front porch. I smiled and said, "Man, I thought it was never going to come." He quickly turned around and ran FULL SPEED back to his truck. Never saw him deliver again. Weirdest shit ever.

My last package was left in the middle of my driveway. Not damaged or anything, but I was like WTF!?, couldn't quite make it to the porch huh?

Jesus, you're really wasting your time doing this?

Hahaha, no. I just hate when people act like this over a pointless package, and then blame the delivery driver, calling them incompetent and basically saying anyone could do their job.

On one hand I hear you, the op was definitely condescending. On the other hand, it's not unreasonable for him to expect a service he paid for. One thing I wish American couriers would copy from Japanese couriers is that the driver always has a cell phone that the customers can call to reschedule a delivery or ask for a status update. The drivers would call me often as well to clarify directions. It helps a lot.

I don't really think calling dispatch is out-of-line; it's the only way to know if the guy's still out and planning to deliver, or if the truck exploded, or if they've lost the package. Although it sounds like they didn't get through to dispatch so I guess that didn't work out.

Did you get the reason? Or does she have to explain when she finally get's back to the warehouse?

Then be mad at the company. Don't take it out on the guy delivering packages. And yeah, I stand by what I said. OP is having a jerk day and was throwing a temper tantrum.

It's 9pm, I don't have my iron-forged, LOTR-themed fleshlight I ordered, so what the hell else am I going to do?

UPDATE: Bahahahahaaaaa, five minute after calling UPS they change the tracking page to make it look like it was never originally on the truck for delivery today and changed it to make it look like it only just had a destination scan at the distribution center five minutes ago. Dumb creeps, someone at the distribution center is obviously trying to cover their ass.

That's the deal you get when you end up being the forward face to the customer as you only see the delivery driver. It happens in a shit ton of jobs where the person dealing with the customer might not be the fuck up, but it's just part of the job. For all purposes the deliver guy is part of the company.

I'm not saying the OP isn't going over board, but I hate when people said he's "entitled". Fuck yes he's intitled to get his stuff in a timely maner. That's the whole fucking point.

Is there a reason he should just let it slide and not call UPS and see what's up? He should let it slide just because?

I dare you to go work any UPS and you'll see how hard they have to work. Managers/supervisors are usually dicks and push so much on the drivers/workers.

Delivery drivers do work pretty damn hard. They also get paid pretty darn well.

He should have called UPS first like you or I may have done. But instead he posted a thread on Gaf first.

"Should I call UPS's customer service number on the tracking website? Or should I make a Gaf post about it?"

Making a Gaf post should never be the primary option.

They're supposed to call me in the morning and explain the situation to me. We'll see if that even happens since they've already forged changes to the tracking page to cover themselves.
