Fucking him because he has to wait over night to get his useless package? Man, what an awful life OP must have.

People like him are what make working in retail a living hell. They are gigantic assholes that seem to think the world starts and ends with them, and don't care to treat innocent people like complete shit.

Your coming off as more of a asshole then he is.

Packages always get put on the truck in the morning and then they drive out to the ass end of the route and work back in.

For UPS I fall on the end and I get my packages between 5 and 7 PM.

Fedex, I always get them at about 11AM.

If a customer pays extra for quick delivery they have a right to expect it on time.
Its not being entitled, people expect what they pay for.
Its like when I come in for my shift at 6 pm and there is a pissed off customer who didnt get fuel delivered before my shift.
It wasnt my fault, but the customer paid for a timely gasoline delivery and I was the person answering the call.
The customer is not an asshole for paying for a service and not getting what they paid for.
I can understand that things happen, but customers expect timely service. No excuses.

Having said that I just have stuff sent second day air if I really want it.
I bought about $200 worth of anime and had it shipped out Monday and it got here last night.
Had it been a day later I would have a right to be pissed.

I ordered a game on amazon, free shipping. said 5-8 days. No big deal right?....came in 3 days. No complaints from me over deliveries anymore.

Now I just wait it out and never actually check the page, once you know its on the truck time will move slower and thus you will be annoyed by it not arriving. So I just let it show up so its a...oh that package is here, awesome.

Also, every person who works in retail or service industry has to deal with pissed off customers.
Im not sympathetic of them because I deal with the same thing.
Its a job.
If you cant deal with it, find something else.

All of this drama over a cover for your Kindle? Really? I think it may be time to reassess your priorities in life if you get this worked up over not getting a Kindle cover until Monday.....

It seems hes more upset that he paid extra shipping to get something sooner and it did not arrive as promised.
No matter whose fault it is, the package did not arrive when he expected it to based on his payment.

Hahaha, no. I just hate when people act like this over a pointless package, and then blame the delivery driver, calling them incompetent and basically saying anyone could do their job.

Ummm, the truth is anyone who is not disabled and has a driving license can in fact do their job. It ain't rocket science.

Also, you've been in here since the start repeatedly attacking the OP and calling him an asshole when he has all the right in the world to be expecting his package since he did pay for it and the shipping. I don't see how this should make the OP come across as being a self-centred person.

And it will be reimbursed. I would be annoyed but in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal.

Enough of a deal that I'm going to complain to Amazon, but not enough to make a thread about it.

Ive seen much worse complaints here.
It prompted a discussion on how the shipping system works so the thread has informational value.

A man created a thread to deservedly vent a bit about the service he paid for that failed to meet its end of the bargain. You flipped out. He then took your insults with good humor. You continued to flip out.

That happens a lot here on GAF, I think. People get even more upset when they try to be an asshole to somebody and the other person just brushes it off with good humor.

It's quite a spectacle to behold.

Yeah I dont feel like the OP was being an asshole, just establishing his rights as a paying customer.
If this was a free service he would have lost nothing as a result, but paying extra for shipment establishes an expectation for the added value.

I hate spme people that order UPS there truck is loud and honks everyday

This post made me laugh out loud for like a full minute.

Also, The Mana Legend, calm down man, you sound like you're a UPS driver who's about to go postal.

YOU WANT YOUR PACKAGE I GOT YOUR PACKAGE RIGHT HERE

The worst thing is that I have a delivery box and these motherfuckers never use it. If I get home and my tablets aren't there I'm going to....

Call them and ask them to deliver it now because they're still open.

I hope UPS enjoys the berating and fines they'll be levied by Amazon for missing the expedited delivery date I paid extra for since I won't be at home to receive deliveries tomorrow.

tehy won't pay a fine, they have an expectation of a certain number of packages being late.

Last week I wasn't home when a package was brought by via USPS. They left a slip letting me know they had stopped by and that the package was at the post office. Well, I go online to reschedule a redelivery for that upcoming Saturday(I didn't want to take time off from work to go get it) and I even got a confirmation slip on my door on Thursday.

Well Saturday rolls around and my girlfriend was home the whole day(I was working overtime) and the package was not delivered. I was pretty pissed, so I just called up the post office to see if they even still had the damn package. I didn't have any faith in our shitty mail carrier, so I just told them to hold it until the next Saturday so I could get the damn package myself.

I'll probably be relying on Amazon lockers for holiday purchases..

that should teach you to have everything delivered to your job. i'm being serious.

That's not the point. Amazon fulfillment personnel frequently live up to their end of the delivery bargain only to have the ball dropped by incompetent delivery companies. I'm sure Amazon is tired of having to eat the cost for the incompetence of UPS and FedEx.

So I paid for deliver today and expect to get it, and I'm a selfish piece of shit? OK, you obviously have never had to actually answer to anyone or take personal responsibility for your life, so I'm not surprised you'd see things this way.

Considering it's after 9pm now and I would like to go to bed at some point tonight, if he wakes me up to deliver this thing at this point he damn well is going to get a piece of my mind.

you weren't getting your package today, I hope you know that.

Just called UPS, the woman left a message with the local distribution center for them to contact me in the morning and give me a reason for why the driver did not come to my residence today, why the status, hasn't updated, and assure me my package will arrive tomorrow.

they're blowing smoke up your ass. I work in a mailroom and I can tell you what's going to happen. they'll ask the driver, he'll say he got backed up with pick-ups (which is very possible as well) or he actually forgot your package (which can happen as well)
it's not comforting to tell you but the best advice I can give you (because i've had it happen to me as well) order everything to your job. I've ordered stuff to my house and i've been staring out the window and they still say they attempted delivery.
home delivery division of both Fed-ex and UPS is awful. the business delivery side however is top-notch. order all your stuff home via USPS, they'll hold it for you and you can pick it up provided you get there before they close the post office for the day. I know the feel of ordering your crap and not having it arrived when you paid for it. but trust me that bitching will not help.

There are a lot of god awful couriers here in the UK. A lot of times I've had notes on my door saying delivery was attempted when it CLEARLY wasn't.

Another time I was waiting for a camera to be delivered, went into my kitchen, looked out the window and saw the package in the middle of the garden, obviously just thrown over the fence.

Fucking Yodel/HDNL

It's 9pm, I don't have my iron-forged, LOTR-themed fleshlight I ordered, so what the hell else am I going to do?

UPDATE: Bahahahahaaaaa, five minute after calling UPS they change the tracking page to make it look like it was never originally on the truck for delivery today and changed it to make it look like it only just had a destination scan at the distribution center five minutes ago. Dumb creeps, someone at the distribution center is obviously trying to cover their ass.

Hmmm... they're not going to go through all that trouble for one package, sorry dude. look it happens, shit gets misplaced. yesterday we sent some documents to our London office for one of our attorneys that would be working there.
the flight leaves at 9 PM or so, I gave the package to the courier and the package never arrived (it also contained our back-up disaster tapes. VERY important to say the least)
their excuse? the guy forgot to drop it off and it missed the flight. it really sucks but it happens, and I don't like it and we let the couriers and hopefully they'll be more on point.
I know all my Fed-ex, UPS, DHL, Axis global, USPS people and they work hard but shit can get overwhelming sometimes.

When your tracking says out for delivery at 5:30AM its not actually out for the delivery. It means it was scanned as it was being taking of a trailer. That package then travels via conveyer belts to the designated car and is loaded onto the package car. Some package cars will leave as early as 5:30 or 6am. They leave that early to deliver early morning air packages. AKA packages that the consumer paid a lot of extra money to have there before 9am. Your typical package car will leave between 8:30 - 9:30 AM. The driver will first deliver all of his next day air packages. AKA packages the consumer paid a lot of extra money to have delivered before 10am. Then the driver will deliver his business stops. His business stops may take him to noon or they make take him to 3pm. Now throughout the day the driver will also have pickups. Where he has to stop and pickup outgoing packages. Your typical UPS Driver may not start delivering residential stops until 2 - 3pm. Some days they may get down at 5pm and other days they may not get down to 8-9pm. It is not unusual for a UPS driver to work a 12 hour day. And with the holidays coming up their business is starting to pick up. And of course there are exceptions to the things I listed here. Every route and day is different.

Edit: It is important to know that Next Day service is different from Next Day Air. Next Day Air is guaranteed by 10am. Next day is guaranteed any time the next day.

Had to post here, I work at FedEx ground in CT. Now like any jobs there are some drivers who are slow, lazy etc etc, but not too much of that here. The biggest reason for late shipping 99 percent of the time are the loaders themselves, or the trailers that drop stuff off in the morning. Yesterday for example, 79 stops, 167 boxes, could only finish 65 before it got too dark and unsafe to deliver in. Today, 95 stops, 280 boxes, deliver them all and I'm home by 6 instead of ten at night.

Only difference? The time I left the terminal. Everyday I get there at 6 am, but may not leave til 9 or 9 30 because a trailer driver took a wrong turn, or decided to get breakfast, which fucks up the entire day. When they are on time, I leave at 6 30, usually get it all done. Then you have misloads, packages that are put on the wrong truck, a fourth floor office that ordered 50 computers, oh sorry the elevator is broken. We only make 2 bucks per stop and 20 cents per box, so sometimes, it's been a real long day, and maybe driving all the way to you for one box isn't worth the 2 bucks, not when we have to pay for our own gas, or risk and accident driving late at night, only to get to your street and it may or may not have mailboxes that we can read safely. So to be frank, go fuck yourself, and if you need your box, order it express guaranteed.

just quoting these two so that you guys know how it works. but seriously, always a smile guys. no matter what.

And why brick and mortar is still better when the product you want is available at a decent price. Shipping companies really need to improve their system.

It did cost him his job, at least. Hopefully he never finds work in delivery again.

and what pray tell should they do?

oh boy, here we go. the "these filthy peasants should do what i ask of them force"

Which show?

One Piece. I don't watch anime at all usually but I sat down with friends and watched a few episodes of this and something about it made me need more. So I want to get all the "collection" DVD's that have been released by Funimation because of the dual audio support and such.

And apparently it would be $177, not $140. Been a bit since I did that calculation.

That's on them to figure out. They should probably get more drivers and split up your routes more for one.

there is nothing else they can do. they can hire more people or hold packages (which is an option you can choose) at the nearest location for pick-up.

I understand the frustration created by a late package, but you only make it worse by getting worked up by it. Unless it's medicine or something absolutely critical, just let it go. There's nothing you can do to change the situation, so just let it slide off your shoulders.

Also, waaaa, I paid $4 extra for shipping and it took a whole 2 days to get here from the other side of the country.

Everything's amazing and nobody's happy. (c) Louie CK
