500+ hour Metal Gear marathon on Twitch started today

If memory serves, there's about 20 seconds of gameplay aboard Arsenal Gear (Outer... Haven...?) then we get to watch Kojima retroactively ruin the Psycho Mantis character.

Hey guys, remember when Psycho Mantis reflected on possibly using his powers to help people before his death? Yeah, let's just fuck all that up with fan service.

Fun fact: FOXDIE also triggers apoptosis in biological cells. It seeks out specific genetic code. This new virus by Sunny does the same, like Otacon mentioned. But it seeks out specific computer code.

Emma's virus in 2 was supposed to be a direct parallel to FOXDIE.

They took the parallel even further in 4, by mentioning apoptosis (intentional cell death) which is what happens with FOXDIE once it matches its target based on genetic code.

How does an AI have cells, you ask? Ask the writers.

I dunnoo... about... all those being good :P

Meryl and Johnny getting together is a mix of funny and bad -- really similar to something you'd see in a B movie.
 
Someone mentioned it in the chat and I agree: beer makes Act 5 of MGS4 much, much better. This is fantastic.
 
MGS4 gets just the right amount of shit it deserves. It does a few things right, and it shits on the rest of the series. Its full of fanservice, bringing characters back just for the sake of it, calling back to previous locations and characters just to say it can. It completely ruins and reverses the growth of characters like Raiden as well. Raiden goes from "I'll leave my past behind, and choose my own future" to... Running away from Rose and their child because of his child soldier past.

Nah. MGS4 is absolutely terribad. Screw this game.

Meryl and Johnny is just out of place and feels forced, just like Hermione and Ron. Except when you start looking at Ron's face it turns out to be Neville. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
 
I always felt the whole Meryl and Akiba thing came off as more cringey than endearing, even at the whole "so bad it's good" angle. Like, it's something that would've worked as comedy but they also expect you to take it seriously (especially with little build up towards the pairing).

I don't know if it's terrible or hilarious that the briefing in Act 5 is all like "oh, he's fine, he's just a little banged up." He fucking halted a goddamned fortress-sized battleship.
