That gen felt like a 3 way tie. First gen i went multi platform . Hi lights include:

The GameCube was impressive because it was a tiny unit.

Alot of that was the harddrive and housing. The hdd was unquie to xbox. But at the time, it took up alot of room, although it paid off during game development.

Also, the larger disc drive because it had full DVDs.

Remember being fully playstation and nintendo until my dad bought an Xbox, played Halo then was intrigued, played Brute force etc and just loved the console from then on, when Xbox Live released I was blew away and Halo 2 started my career and love for online shooters and never looked back.

Even though I love JRPG's etc I think this is why Xbox always holds a special likeness in me and I cant hold back even when the PS4 is better overall

It’s a bit of an underrated console. I had a lot of fun with it. KoTor, Chaos Theory, Halo 1 remain two of my favorite games ever.

Yup. Great games. Kotor and the Star Wars games that gen were great. I especially like Republic Commando. Great FPS.

Another thing is people think about the Xbox was just off the shelf PC parts, which is partly true. But the GPU was highly customized, to the point where it's still more difficult to emulate versus GameCube, and even ps2. Gamecube is actually a breeze.

Yep.

Sony was just a juggernaut in marketing, not just in spending budget but the quality of the campaign. Not to mention, they were a proven powerhouse. Sony install base was magnitudes larger than Sega, Nintendo, and of course, Xbox was zero. Even combined, Sony had a larger install base than the other 5th generation consoles. It was a perfect storm of marketing muscle, huge install base, DVD, and the Ps2 was a great console in its own right.

But, looking at the games themselves and the console features, I think any of those consoles could have won with Sony's advantages in their corner. They were just all at a massive disadvantage. Many have the Dreamcast, Xbox, and GC as their #1 on their greatest console list, and it can easily be argued about each of them.

The way the online matches in DOA Ultimate were structured were so cool. It brought the arcade experience home, as there were multiple challengers and the winner stayed fighting. There would be trash talking, cheering, etc. and each Gamer Tag has their countries flag next to it. The crowd back then on Xbox Live was really cool as well, so the majority of the people were really cool and the banter between players was civil yet competitive. Some lag here and there, but overall good times.

xBox OG wins here, but I have a special place in my heart for GCN, the one I owned. It's pretty unfair not to mention Wind Waker, which had hugely beautiful animation quality and design, even if it was mostly in primary colours

It blows my mind that anyone thinks the GameCube wasn’t the console of that gen. I say that owning a Dreamcast, PS2 and GameCube at launch and having lots of friend with Xbox at the time. PS2 had the most pretty good game games, GCN had the highest quality shit with the best graphics, Xbox was somewhere in between but never blew me away.

I’ve had every Sony and Nintendo console except Virtual Boy and Wii U but I’d take my GameCube library over my PS2 library any day, and the difference in fidelity that gen is undeniable IMO. And I ended up getting an X360 a few years later but the Og Xbox didn’t do shit for me
