7 Ways to Play Destiny 2 Solo

if anyone thinks that they can play Destiny 2 solo, you are wrong, so wrong

if you don't have anyone to play with, and think the community will help you, you are also wrong, especially in Raids

but luckily there is an LFG, which really helps a lot to find players, even though sometimes they will have some annoying requirements like " you must have a certain exotic weapon to play with us"

if you love to play solo and don't want to play with a group, Destiny is not for you

Destiny community is probably one of the worst communities i have ever dealt with

You've never been to Destiny-GAF.
When Crota came out a few amazing guys who knew the ins and outs of the raid brought me and two others through. They let us play blindly but helped when we needed. They had an incredible balance of letting us play and pushing us forward with incredible patience. After many many Atheon raids - so many ending in frustration from glitches - it was an incredible experience owed to some people just trying to make our night.

Seriously, thank you whoever did that and I can't wait to be a part of Destiny2-Gaf and pay it forward.

DGAF is the best. This gets my vote for Worst Post of the Year 2017.

I'm planning on playing solo. Never played the first game.

I generally don't team up with others but if I like the game enough and it's something I plan to put a lot of time into, I might join a clan. That seems like a good middle ground between playing completely alone and being in a party that plays nightly.

DGAF not helpful or a good community? I don't think I've ever read anything more objectively wrong on GAF than this.

As someone who was part of dgaf, its not without its issues. For a while you had clique of people who would go to discord and talk shit about other people in dgaf. They still do, but hopefully an influx of returning users and new users will override that.

I've seen some shit first posts but this one, wow. Is there some kind of competition that I don't know about? You aiming for that first place heh?

I think your problem was relying on third party LFG sites where it's simply luck of the draw. And you'll certainly get "looking for light level 420+, must have ballerhorn", all while the person making that post has never completed a raid.

The destiny GAF community though is very friendly and patient with newcomers.

I started playing Destiny after RoI was released. I had no friends to play with and had no clue how to do any of the raids. Luckily I was playing on Xbox and the looking for group function came in handy tremendously. Some groups were strictly Join if you've done X, join if you have Y. But in some occasions there were LFG's which were willing to help and teach newbies how to raid. The helpful community is there, all you have to do is find it. You only need to find 1 of those groups to be able to learn the raid and start joining random groups. Completed all the raids and Destiny content through the LFG function on XBL within 4 months. No reason why anyone else cant do the same with some free time on the weekend.

Couldn't be further from the truth, we just took two newbies through their first Kings Fall two weeks ago, one person who had never done a raid before. You can't get in the game if all you do is sit on the sidelines and complain all the time.

Yeah it's not perfect. I quit out of a Raid during Wrath of the Machine once because one of the regular posters in DGAF was in my group just non stop talking immense shit on anyone who dared to fuck up or make a mistake.

That said out of all the time I grouped with people from GAF that was the only really ugly experience so overall I'd rate it very highly

Is there a current record you're trying to break for spreading the most misinformation in one post?

How is Destiny for a duo? Wife and I might get Destiny 2 for PC.

You should have fun for everything but raids from the get-go.

I am a solo player in D1, and AFTER THREE YEARS OF BALANCES I am one chest piece away from a 400 across the board Titan. I just played my first Nightfall strike last week and I have not played the last two raids ever because LFG is a mixed bag at best and Bungie REQUIRES you to find 6 people on your own to do a raid.

So you can play Destiny solo, but expect a longer progression trek than someone in Clan DudeBro. And expect to be frustrated by Bungie decision making at times as a solo player because solo players are not eSports and that is where $$$ comes from these days. So if PvP suffers, nerfs to that will also change PvE AND TOUGH SHIT THERE PAL THAT'S BUNGIE DECISION MAKING THERE SO LIKE IT.

As for community, I have had more positive experiences than negative ones, but the negative ones will test your patience. I have left raid tries before because one player is "master tactics chief" and barks orders and calls wipes and all you want to do is FINISH the damn raid after 2.5 hours and style points DON'T MATTER TO YOU ANYMORE.

Yes, the negative experiences will go like that, I promise you. I also swear to you that you will meet a random player who will walk you though MP to get you your own personal Thorn hand cannon as well. Or two randoms who were running NF strikes and saw you looking for help with doing your FIRST ONE. That is Destiny's community in a nutshell. Since you have a significant other who will play with you, Destiny for you no matter the platform will work better for you. And this opinion is from a long time, dyed in the wool D1 solo player.

Wait, did I hear that right? Did she say that story missions can be replayed with fireteams of three. As in the first time around you have to play solo? Or did she word that weirdly and you can play with a fireteam from the getgo?

Yup, especially combined with the quarter assed matchmaking in Destiny 1 and the half assed match making in destiny 2.

The community and half assed matchmaking are why instead of being excited to play day 1 I might never touch 2.

I spent more time using half assed third party matchmaking sites than I did actually raiding. It was certainly harder than any of the raids.

Yup.
I had to join Discord, filtered out chat to look for interested party/member, PM them, invited them into party chat to ensure we were all logging on to ours PS4 right now, sent out party invites/friend requests...and finally, time to play.

Guys, I'd love to introduce you to a community. Ironically enough, it's in the COMMUNITY section of GAF. You may have heard of it, but just in case, there were 44 OTs. THOUSANDS of posts. People helping people through all this content. Noobie raids. Blind raids. Inebriated raids. Flawless raids. Nightfall help. Sword help. Outbreak Prime help. Heck, even life help. We even had our own glorified Bat signal.
RIP Drizzay.
LUKE AND URK (you know, those guys from Bungie?) read the community section.

We are DGAF. We are actually here to help. If by some chance you're blissfully ignorant, I invite you to the community that you didn't know existed. Come on in, the water's fine. :)

We used to matchmake for strikes and had no issues.

Story time. Pull up a chair.

So I'm a lowly 25 trying to do the 28 weekly. It was solar burn Phogoth.

I was on my alt, trying to get enough strange coins (back when you got coins for doing these things) and it took me FOREVER. I had no Ice Breaker, but I crept through the mission, super careful. MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE DOOR at the end.

I was panicking. I had no solar weapon, and a wipe would mean starting over. (again, old days)

I go to DGAF. Throw up a post. "Hey guys, I'm sitting at the end of the Weekly, literally at the end by the door. I have no Ice Breaker, and I don't want to wipe. If you have a solar sniper or Ice Breaker, it's basically free loot. Please help?"

Within I swear about 40 seconds two guys from DGAF joined on me, and in about that same time we finished the strike. I was elated.

I have ZERO idea what I bought with those coins. Literally no clue. But I remember that like yesterday.

THAT is DGAF. <3

sounds awful

definitely continuing to stay away from destiny then

Yup, DGAF is the best GAF. The OTs were SOOOO good for getting and offering helping hands. Insanely active and inclusive. Until I got a more steady raid team going, the OTs were where it was at. Everyone was positive and we all helped each other out. It was and is the greatest gaming community I have ever been a part of. Just post in the OTs and you'll see. Super excited to see you all in orbit again. :)

Hey, guys and ladies. Please. Just for a second. I went back and found the posts I was talking about earlier. This is what DGAF is like.

For those who may say "But dude I can't be bothered to click on two posts. UGH." Ok I copied the text for you.

1) Guys? I SOMEHOW made it to the last checkpoint in the 28 Weekly Heroic with my 25 1/2 warlock. I want to get this done before Xur goes away. Would anyone like to jump in and help me out?

I would greatly appreciate it.

My PSN is ColonelOCorn

2) raizel76 and sandboxgod you guys ROCK. I'm still baffled at how I survived to the Safe Room(TM) door, but I think it was due to watching v1b4rat1ions and gen hof last night. (who were like poetry in motion)

THANK YOU!!!! sheds a tear...

I like the timestamps. Call for help: 6:39pm. Victory and thanks: 7:06pm.

You can solo pretty much anything apart from the raids of course. Even most nightfalls were soloable in D1 if you were competent.

And raid LFG in my experieince was pretty good. Rarely found super bad teams, but I would usually stick to reddit fireteams. Nightfalls on LFG are mainly 'no mic' needed so if you dont want to speak to strangers then no need to worry.

But its best played with friends. I joined a clan and its much better but as people gradually moved onto other games, solo play is an option. I can see them making it much easier with this guided games things as well, but LFG will be better still I think.

I met people in game, made friends, got invites to raids sometimes. There were some great people in the community. You can absolutely play destiny as a solo player the majority of the time as long as you're willing to network once in a while.

I put in around 80 hours in to Destiny with randoms. Worked fine for what I played which was more than enough for me. 80 hours for any game is a fucking bargain. Solo is fine.

DGaf was hit or miss for me. Mostly miss when I tried to find groups or help. The community thread was awesome for information tho. I eventually gave up trying to use it for groups.

No exaggeration: that might be the worst first post anyone has ever made in the history of GAF.

And he hasn't come back into the thread, which makes it even more embarrassing. (Not that he ever planned on it. It was just to thread shit anyway.)

This video is so stupid when it comes to #6 and #7.

The video is about playing solo and the points are essentially "you can now find easy a team for a raid with a finder or a clan!"

Thats not how playing solo works.

Admittedly, the thread moved REALLY fast. Sometimes posts that were LFG would kinda get lost in the shuffle. But overall people were and still are really cool.

actually crying at the number of people falling for that bait

But Pablo, you have to realize, we've been over in DGAF for over 3 years now and when we come to Gaming side, we've seen MANY posts like this quoted one.

Destiny community sucks.
Nobody to play with.
Why is there no raid matchmaking.
I'll never get my flawless raider trophy, this sucks.
I'll never go to Mercury...

Meanwhile, there are thousands and thousands of posts of a community of crazies that love the game and enjoy each others' company.
You have Hawkian (the guy is a saint) putting up a sign up sheet EVERY FREAKING WEEK for noobies to do raids.
GutZ and Ruthless and Drizzay and plenty of people eagerly asking "Hey we're doing flawless runs all weekend - let us know if you want in..."
Unstable trying to take a spreadsheet full of people to the Lighthouse.....

DRIZZAY HELPED HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE FINISH SKOLAS IN ONE WEEKEND. O N E weekend.

We read these kind of posts, troll or not, and pull our collective hair out. But you're right, GAF never changes. <3

I remember I just posted in there that I was bummed that I wasn't able to finish King's Fall opening weekend. I had gotten stuck on Oryx for hours and tried with different teams but couldn't finish it. DGAF made a group for me without me asking just so I could finish that fight and get the clear before the weekly reset.

I loved Destiny 1 either solo or co-op. If you're normally a solo only/single player gamer and are maybe a little intimidated by all the online crap, I would still urge you to try Destiny 2.

Most of my life I leaned heavily toward single player games but I tried Destiny and I was almost instantly hooked. It's a nearly perfect hybrid of solo and co-op (and of course there's pvp if you're into that) and it's really not like anything else I've played in that regard. I even made a thread about it back in the Destiny 1 beta days I enjoyed it so much.

To me a hybrid game like Destiny is the future of gaming and I hope titles like it and hopefully Anthem can keep pushing things ahead.

I played Destiny solo from Beta till after Crota's End was getting old and loved it. Then I found a regular fireteam and loved it even more. Good gunplay and the loot grind are at the heart of Destiny for me and I am sure D2 will deliver those two elements well.

I don't see what's so comical. People are sharing great experiences and advice for grouping as solo players in their responses.

I completely agree, but Xbox DGAF is here! Not a lot of us, but we exist. Can't tell you how many times I ran useless nightfall for other people.

As I'm on Xbox now, I'm definitely thinking of picking it up there. Always down to play with new people. I played with Dads of Destiny on PS4, so it'd be nice to get a chill group going sometimes.

I thought it was clear after the first game Destiny isn't good for anybody. I guess the players that pretended it was good all this time will finally be redeemed... by purchasing a sequel that seems to have been made properly.
