7 Ways to Play Destiny 2 Solo

I returned Destiny 1 because I didn't have friends to play it with. I don't think I'll buy Destiny 2 unless my friends also get it even though I did have fun playing the beta solo.

if anyone thinks that they can play Destiny 2 solo, you are wrong, so wrong

if you don't have anyone to play with, and think the community will help you, you are also wrong, especially in Raids

but luckily there is an LFG, which really helps a lot to find players, even though sometimes they will have some annoying requirements like " you must have a certain exotic weapon to play with us"

if you love to play solo and don't want to play with a group, Destiny is not for you

Destiny community is probably one of the worst communities i have ever dealt with

wtf son... am new to the game. what is this bullshit pre order cancelled

i don't have anyone to play d2 with this time around, but i'm kinda glad i'll be going solo. it means i wont spend 2000 hours on it by the end of the year

Quality shitposting at its finest. Surprised this comment has lived this long in fact!

Your avatar brings back found memory, god.

Looks like Destiny 2 will hve more solo options then the first but even in that video,3 of the ''solo'' stuff stongly suggest to join a clan or whatever lol...I enjoyed the first but the people I played with burned out pretty fast and I also stopped playing after a few months...

Not sure if I will get this one(PS4 or might wait for the X).

Destiny 1 plays better with friends, great with other people and fun solo. Will more than likely be the same with Destiny 2. When I eventually pick it up I will be mainly playing solo.

As someone who mostly soloed D1 it was a great experience and when I did need help the community was more than willing to give it!

Gonna be making more of an effort to get involved for D2, but the game can totally be solved for the most part if that's what you want.

Just want to chime in and second DGAF as being the best community I've encountered. Shout out to all the guys who jumped in my games to help me clear tough missions, or actually allow me to get the raid complete trophy after 2 years..

This so much.
My time with Destiny 1 was short but when I needed it a couple folks didn't think twice before helping me out here.

Seeing those friend requests with "DGAF" or "DGAF here to help" as a note =

Shitting on the Destiny community isn't gonna fly, ESPECIALLY the DGAF community. The most helpful, friendly and enthusiastic bunch of people I've ever interacted with. Wanna raid, post there. You'll be raiding.

Between DGaf and the the100.io I was able to complete every raid on all difficulties, get to the light house a couple of times, do Nightfalls and have a great time running in squads in the crucible. I highly recommend seeking out both if you are going into the game solo.

If there is one thing that separates Destiny from any other gaming community I've been involved in, it's the constant kindness I've received from people I've grouped up with. It's not always easy reaching out to a bunch of strangers for help in a game, but communities like DGaf go out of their way to make a great game that much more amazing.

I played a lot of Destiny solo and had no issues joining up in matchmaking for multiplayer stuff. I plan on jumping in with GAF when it drops on PC. Man you could not be more wrong

I've completed all the hard raids, the Outbreak Prime quest and numerous nightfalls with random peeps. Sure you might have to wait a couple weeks, but you're selling the community short saying it's the worst community.

If u couldn't find anyone to help you, either you weren't looking hard or you're the issue.

Patience is a must though.

I played 90% of Destiny 1 solo, and the rest was either joining up with random to help them out, or with a few gaffers to help with Raids a couple of times.

I never once felt like I wasn't getting my moneys worth playing solo, and there's so many opportunities to join up with others in game, and generally such a good bunch of people playing, that it made the option of co-op an incredibly easy one to take whenever I did feel a desire to use it.

If you play solo expect not till clear raids, I never did the destiny 1 raids near the end of its life cycle cause most of my friends finished them already but the game has enough content not worry about that

Okay, so the sentence was worded weirdly in the video then? Good.

Cause it made it sound like you have to play the story missions solo first, and then you can replay them with a fireteam.

The way Bungie talks, the story is more designed to be single-player content. You can play it with friends, of course, but the story content is more solo-focused from a design standpoint.

At least the first 2 missions will likely be locked to only solo play.
After that it should open to fireteam joining is my guess.

Cool. I played Destiny 2 Solo for most of Y1/Y2. I got a sweaty squad for Y2/Y3 and Trials. It is definitely possible to play Destiny as a solo player. However, for Raids and Nightfalls...Reddit LFG is an awesome place to find other players.

I played all of the original destiny solo, aside from using gaf and other sites to find raid people. i'm glad this looks more accessible to solo play and them having sort of raid matchmaking will help a lot too. also this time around i'm not gonna make the mistake of having just one character, this time i'm gonna have one of each class to keep me busy in the in between dlc times.

I had a good friend that I played with sometimes but I played the vast majority of destiny solo. Was able to group up with some people on the gaf thread and did the vault of glass raid and used matchmaking for everything else.

Absolutely cannot wait for Wednesday!

Ignoring the first reply because I think everyone before me has covered it pretty well. But addressing the idea of playing Destiny solo, I think it is a perfectly great game to play solo. I played all of OG Destiny and Taken King solo, and it worked great, you just have to have reasonable expectations. If you're playing WoW, FF XIV or any MMO solo, you go into it understanding that you won't have access to the best gear, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. The feedback loop of doing content, collecting loot and improving your character still exists, you just have a lower ceiling than if you did raids. But you can still get new gear and can easily get more hours out of Destiny even completely solo than basically any other single player game you would buy for $60, so to me the value is there whether or not you can hit the absolute gear cap or not.

Also, to people complaining about the video, I personally consider "playing solo" to include using any in-game matchmaking systems. For example, doing strikes where you are alone, press a button, and then clear a strike with two randoms that you never talk to is essentially still solo. Similarly, doing Iron Banner where you queue by yourself is still solo play, despite the fact that you're on a team. "Non-solo" play in my eyes refers to specifically gathering a group before starting content to coordinate and do it better, usually with communication. Similarly to WoW, a "solo player" can still do the random dungeon daily, doesn't make them less of a solo player, but if you get a guild group together for raids that isn't solo any longer. I guess if your issue is you have an active phobia of playing with other people then sure you might not have as much fun in Destiny 2 as you would want, but I can't imagine many players have an issue with things like normal strikes or random PvP matches unless they just avoid anything with other players on some weird principle (despite being able to ostensibly do strikes yourself ignoring the 2 other people in there with you).

And one quick comment about playing as a Duo, I think Destiny is great for this. Convinced my brother to play towards the end of Taken King and we had a blast 2-manning the game. Especially things like the Nightfall that you're supposed to do with 3 people, doing it with just us 2 was a fun challenge and totally doable. Just as with solo, you'll be blocked from some content unless you find other people to join you, like Trials of Osiris or Raids, but I think Destiny is a great 2 person game, at a time where solid 2 person experiences are more lacking than I would've thought.

As many have already said (but to add my voice), as a game you could definitely experience much of the content as a solo player, as most had matchmaking and didn't necessarily need you to really communicate that much (e.g. strikes, general pvp). Despite this, there is definitely some content that isn't soloable, and likely won't be even with their assisted matchmaking...but still a great experience.

Although I had a few friends who played, I didn't have enough to raid in my own group, and turned to LFG sites, many of which were very helpful. I definitely ran into some dicks along the way (and remember pre-Xur GHorn that many groups would not let you raid Crota's End without having one...) but overall had a great experience. I'll be looking forward to getting more involved with D-Gaf this time around as I definitely lurked through many of those threads throughout D1...

Played destiny 1 taken kong solo. Did all campaign solo then a little bit of end game stuff (petrols, strikes pvp). Had a lot of fun.

Plan to do the same in destiny 2. If it has better systems for matchmaking strikes and stuff then great. If it has better solo end game the even better. Either way i will enjoy it i am sure.

Never did a raid and doubt i will in d2 either. Dont really have the time for one anyway.

Honestly, Destiny is a fine game solo (all the story content, the strikes, etc) but it truly shines in the raids and nightfalls.

I gotta get set up with the GAF Clan on PS4 this weekend. Recommend newcomers do the same.

EDIT: To put it into context, Crota was my favorite gaming experience of this gen. There's a flow to Destiny's combat and when you have six players just switched on, it feels amazing.

Awesome, thanks for that answer GlamFM because I had no clue and thought maybe I did something I should not have done from all the time I have been here. Currently at 207 hehe.

As for the DGaf, I may have to join this so I can try and finish the last two raids. I have a pretty crazy schedule right now so I play D1 at some pretty odd hours some days. And another thanks for the information from the postings from all the other D2 threads from everyone who has answered or posted useful information this past week.

is it fine to jump into D2 without really progressing much in the first game?
Yeah, basically everything from the first game is destroyed anyway, so I would think you should be fine.

cool.
Even though a lot of people have beaten the first solo, It definitely feels like you're somewhat handicapped for doing so, at least it did for me for the first couple of hours.

Thread had a good ending. Not liking Destiny is absolutely fine, but saying the community "doesn't help" is almost insulting.

If anyone here is worried about having to play Destiny 2 solo, shoot me a friend request & we can make sure that doesn't happen.

Agreed , COD put me off MP games for a while and I was hesitant to jump into the raids in destiny (I played solo and used matchmaking for everything else) but had a great experience and rarely met ashsoles at all.

Raids in destiny are my favourite thing in games at the moment .

I quit after TTK but yeah when I raided with DGAF the few times it was great, it was also one of the rare times online when I could hear a happy female voice playing along with us without anyone being jerks to them.

For me Bungie's disregard for their player's time was what made me throw in the towel. I'm still really debating trying 2 or not, my wife even wants to play with me but the beta didn't feel right. I'm still pissed about everything I'd work for solo / dredging through lfg forums to get or accomplish something just to have the Devs nerf or remove it every friggen time. Guess the whole MMO part still is sorta half assed lol

The Destiny community is fantastic. For the first game, I didn't have anyone to team up with for a raid, so I went to a website (Destiny Raid Tracker) to find some members. They were nothing but accomodating, patient and supportive as I was new (and not very good).

I can't wait to play Destiny 2, especially using the guided games feature + hopefully playing with some Gaffers from DGaf!

Sure GAF will be good but if your ever stuck I reccomend Reddit fireteams for destiny . Rarely had a bad experience form there myself

As a solo player on XB1, will MicrosoftÂ’s own LFG feature be helpful for a new player, or should I rely on BungieÂ’s guided games?

It doesn't more friendly, welcoming and helpful than DGAF. Join us.

If not, Guided Games got your back by the sounds of it.

I played Destiny solo, never bothered with any raids, did just fine with randos in strikes. I'll likely do the same for 2.
Same I had plenty of fun just replaying the same solo content with different classes the whole grind of doing the raids to get better gear just never appealed to me.

+1 for DGaf being the best community ever. Way back in the early days I remember opening the door to the vault with a team of 5, when an underleveled blueberry jumped on a plate to help. IRawr invited him to the chat, and asked him if he wanted to come along. He did, and it was so awesome to help some random guy get great gear.

That was the first awesome "community" thing I was a part of, and there have probably been a hundred since then. If anyone has any doubts, I can go on and on and on.

Ha I forgot about this till you mention it! :3

hope you and your family are doing well! Feel free to send me an invite whenever you see me on destiny 2

My best gaming experiences involved the people I've met on /r/fireteams
I didn't have anybody to raid with and the people I met over there were always great! I have a bunch of great stories from playing with the random people over there. It's the main reason my psn friends list has grown so much

hi random passerby, if you are in this thread because you just feel a deep compelling urge within your bones to buy Destiny 2 and you can just feel it's gonna happen no matter what you hear, please come chill with DGAF. :)

I had to go look this up. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=180314250#post180314250 :>

looks like fig and bogeypop were in that group, very cool stuff

There are so many stories like this. To anyone new here, I hope you have a great experience with people here. And to anyone who has come back after a break, I look forward to catching up in the months ahead.

2 1/2 days ladies and gents!

Never had any problem playing Destiny 1 solo, I made some friends and went to LFG to find people, on IB I have enough skills to keep myself going solo and getting Rank 5 fast. On D2 I will play Solo on PS4 and on group on PC since I'm leading a team in it.

So... Yeah.

Play it solo if you want folks.

Originally intended not to buy Destiny 2. But looks like my friends are buying it now.

Peer pressure for the win

This video makes me happy, I played the first game pretty much all on my own except for random groupings for a couple strikes. I plan to play most of this one on my own as well but thankfully it seems I have a few friends buying the PC version so I should be good.

So excited for the PC version.
