Seriously? That sounds sucky compared to the movie version tbh... I see why they changed it.

Yeah, it would have been a lot better, especially since he is played by Nicholas Cage :lol

Kick-Ass the movie is kinda the polar opposite of Kick-Ass the comic

The movie is definitely full on wish fulfillment

The comic is the slap to the face reminding you that this kind of shit never turns out well.

But what's Big Daddy's motivation in the comics for going after the kingpin then?

Day one for the BD for sure.
I just can't decide on my favorite action scene.
Hit-Girl going FPS and DESTROYING the execution team was so tense, but the final scene was pretty goddamn awesome too.
Anybody care to post what Big Daddy's backstory is in the comic?

Its a big twist in the comic, you don't find out until the very end. But
initially you believe Hitgirl and Big Daddy are fighting because mobsters killed their mother/wife. In the end it is revealed that Big Daddy got kicked to the curb by his wife and kidnapped his daughter and basically brainwashed her into a killing machine. Also he's a huge comic book collector and that is how he can afford all of the awesome gear. The mysterious trunk(don't know if its in the movie) he always carries is full of mint condition comics that he sells.

Well i was just talking to a friend on FB who's read the comics and he filled me in.
Now he's told me the whole story it doesn't sound too bad, but for the movie release i see why they changed it.

I'm glad they kept the "Why do people want to be Paris Hilton but nobody wants to be Spiderman?" line in, but, man, my favorite fucking line of the comic, "Six weeks ago, I was Heroes season one. Now, as far as the 'net was concerned, I was season fucking two." would've been so, so awesome to see in the film. It's such a goddamn amazing reference. :lol

I'm mixed on how I would feel about the twist, after reading what it is. But references like Costanzas sound awesome. I'll try to grab that, Scott pilgrim, and Walking Dead really soon and plow through all 3.

:lol :lol :lol

From a link in that article about the controversy over Hitgirl's age. So much photoshop potential for the woman(?) in purple.

I didn't understand either why Nicholas Cage played the character so
nerdy and dorky when he wasn't. It would have made sense if they had went with the original story, but a hardened cop who became a hardened criminal in prison acts like that? Plus, he was drawing all of the criminals mugshots. Something tells me they wanted to do the twist, but chickened out at the end and tossed in that scene where he is arguing with his ex-partner.

what the fuck? it's his best comic.

You think Kick-Ass, a steaming pile only better than Wanted, is BETTER than The Ultimates Vol 1 and 2? :lol (HINT: Bryan Hitch isn't the only reason Ultimates is fucking brilliant)

I'm curious about the movie, but considering how crappy the comic was, I'm kinda hoping it's totally different.

I loved it.
Even the other half enjoyed it which I was surprised at (i thought she would before watching it, but wasn't so sure during).

Less funny and far more brutal than I was expecting.
Definitely a BR purchase for me :)

Saw it this afternoon and liked it a lot. The fighting and killing was really brutal, which felt like a "Watchmen" type anti-comic book depiction of costumed crime fighters. Highlights for me were the
big daddy & hit girl intro scene
and the way
big daddy talked all staccato like the Batman from the old TV show
. Everything about the movie was fun to watch except the very last scene.

When the bad guy's son turns around and says that line,
it seemed very cheesy and completely the opposite of the movie's position on super heroes.

I think you're the first person I've seen to hate on kick ass the comic. Everyone else seems to love it. I think Ultimates is probably the best superhero comic of the past decade but there's no reason to lol at someones opinion that kick ass is better

Big Daddy in the warehouse and Hit Girl in the dark were the best scenes of the movie...i want to see those again NOW. The Big Daddy scene was like what Batman would be if he killed people LOL

Just got back from seeing this and I already want to see it again. The action scenes were a total surprise. After watching some of the trailers over and over I thought they would be cool but I wasn't expecting them to be AMAZING!

I like how the movie and comic are pretty different from each other. They each hold up well on their own.

Very fun movie, soured by a few things:

-
Final battle. Jetpack *really* dumbed it up, and Kick-Ass vs Red Mist was subject to extreme editing, probably so they wouldn't have to teach those two decent action choreography. Couldn't match the previous set piece with the first person badassery.

-Loser fantasy fulfillment going a little overboard.
The instant turnaround with cracking voice whitefro main character and hot girl in her bedroom had people yelling out "dream sequence!" in the theater.

-Not really enough done to develop the main character. It's established that he's a shy loser who jerks off a lot and lets girls think he's gay so that they'll hug him, and that he likes comic books and starts cosplaying, but after that he's basically just reacting to Hit-Girl and Red Mist for the rest of the movie. Hit-Girl ends up stealing the show.

It sounded like they used pieces of Murphy's score throughout the entire film, could be wrong. Of course that scene was used the most heavily. It was a bit odd and I can see where Sculli is coming from. This is coming from one of the biggest Sunshine fans (yes, even the 3rd act). With Kick-Ass the visuals during that scene are so FUCKING incredible that the Sunshine music just elevates it. It's not used as great as it was in Sunshine, but it works.

Ah..always nice to hear such good things about Sunshine (also one of the biggest Sunshine fans). It was used pretty amazingly in the movie so I cant imagine it being as awesome in Kick-Ass, but I look forward to hearing it tonight. Can't wait.

was a huge fan of the comics and absolutely loved the movie. no hate here. will purchase blu-ray day one. I also love anything matthew vaughn touches so maybe im a bit biased.

Seeing this tomorrow some time. Matt Vaughn is a stud who hasnt let me down yet, so hopefully he doesnt start

Just got back from seeing it. LOVED it!

However, I wish they kept more of the original source material.

Katie was way cute and I had no idea she was the daughter in HIMYM :lol

Just got back from seeing Kick-Ass and wow Hit-Girl just completely owned ass in that movie, and yes the jet pack thing was pretty obvious.

If only I'd left the theatre 15 minutes early.
Jetpack, really?
Thank heavens for the comic.

I don't really get the hate. It was set-up from the moment they mentioned the $300k price-tag.
Quite a common issue other people have had though and I am sure there are better ways of bringing him in to the action.

Still, I hope the bit that the last scene alludes to happens!

Saw this movie last night at a midnight screening. So incredible. It is so many things at once. I think my favorite scenes were

"The fuck is wrong with you man? You'd rather die for some piece of shit that you don't even fucking know?
"Three assholes laying into one guy while everybody else watches? And you wanna know whats wrong with me? Yeah, I'd rather die."
fucking perfect line

Hit Girl trying to save Big Daddy and Kick-Ass when Big Daddy is on fire. Goddamn

Love both those scenes the first scene you mention is pretty damm awesome he was adamant that he wasn't going to stop and they knew it and cut their losses.

I'm just lolling at calling it the best Mark Millar has done, that's all. Kick Ass has a great premise, but it never really gets going, and then it's over. That's all. I think Mark Millar is a great writer. Kick Ass just isn't some of his best work.

Hey, it's no modern Jeph Loeb!

The
Hit Girl light flickering rescue scene
was fucking transcendent. I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing.

Ruined by the aping of John Murphy's score. I couldn't focus on the scene when I can hear noises from Icarus 2 amidst it.

Its a great track but goddamn was that shit an uninspired effort to try and get me to see the situation as something more than it was.

Only the part with the
two guys down the hallway is what I was talking about. Wasn't a HUGE fan of the FPS part and the really slow light flickering part at the end of the scene.

man i hope youre wrong.

Uh boy. This was not a pleasant moviegoing experience.

This film's serious tonal problems absolutely killed it for me. Its constant jump from Superbad-style teen angst comedy to ultra-violent crime thriller made for an extremely clunky film.

And I don't typically complain about "morals" in films, but it's hard for me not to find this movie repugnant. I have no beef with violent films, but the film brings up serious issues of violence and child abuse and then doesn't even bother to address them. And the ending, which artlessly attempts to wrap everything up with a pretty bow on top, just makes it even more insincere and frustrating.

It's not a meritless film by any means, but it's definitely not something I'll go out of my way to watch again.

Why are people saying the stupid little girl "stole the movie"? She was the worst part of it by far. Every scene with her was awkward and stupid. She should have been at least 15, but then the movie wouldn't have its stupid gimmick.

Not as awkward as the main character!

He was intentionally awkward, and I can deal with the nerd-becomes-badass crap. It feels to me like they took a normal action comedy and swapped out one of the characters with a child for no reason.

Also the end was ridiculous

It makes a lot more sense in the comic.

fuck I wish they kept Big Daddy's story the same... what's in there now is so fucking stupid.

Go to the theater and ask to speak to a manager. Request a refund because the projectionist obviously showed you a different movie. In Kick-Ass, every seen with the little girl was pretty fucking awesome.

I don't doubt it. Even though it was almost two hours long, it doesn't seem like much happened, especially with character development.

I agree in the beginning, but as it progresses she is so great.

I don't see it. In my mind I picture her as being a teenager or even older and it makes 10x more sense.

Unrelated to the movie, there was an unusually high concentration of fatties in the theater. No idea why, but it was several times more than usual, and I'm talking obese, not just chubby.

Serious question: how would a film "addressing" said moral issues matter? and what would you want them to do? Are you merely speaking for yourself? If so, why do you need a movie to tell you that child abuse and violence is wrong?

Why stop there? Why not have her be 25 years old and be BatGirl or something? Why have the comic/movie AT ALL? She's not a gimmick, shes a character.

You weren't smiling ear to ear during the Banana Splits scene? That was top five best moments I've ever had in a theater.

I don't recall anything about banana splits. I took a piss in the middle so I must have missed it.

I want a Millar-cut on the Blu-ray where:

- Dave doesn't end up with Katie. Instead she sends him a pic of herself sucking her boyfriend's dick and he jerks off to it while crying.
- Big Daddy is really just a crazy delusional fuck with a comic obsession who twisted and warped his innocent little daughter after his wife left him, and, tied to that.. Hit-Girl does coke on the elevator at the end.
- "Six weeks ago, I was Heroes season one. Now, as far as the 'net was concerned, I was Season fucking Two."

Just give me these 3 things and the movie would be perfect.
