Awwwwessssommme.

My girlfriend and I walked out saying it was probably the most entertaining comic based movie ever. It actually was action packed and told a great story to go along with it. And the fight scenes were just amazing. As much as I enjoy the Spiderman and Batman films, they could use the much needed 'fun' that this movie is filled with.

Wanted was my fav hilarious/violent/action movie. This tops it several times over.

My fav part was any scene involving Big Daddy. Nic Cage was hilarious. His Batman parody was brilliant.

honestly I wish the movie would bomb, for one reason - the wrong fanbase getting attached to this can totally ruin it. I mean, it's already starting with those godawful "ANYONE CAN BE A SUPERHERO!" commercials.

Eh, if anyone else was writing Kick-Ass, I'd agree.

Nice avatar change, BTW. ^_^

I loved how most of the shit i was laughing at was some seriously disturbing and fucked up content. I mean in another context the stuff that goes on in the movie is downright abusive.

What an incredibly stupid outlook. The fanbase doesn't change the quality of the movie.

If there's any movie that should get attention its this one. Im hoping word of mouth will get more people to the movies. I know the crowd i was with loved it.

The crowd I saw it with were shouting and cheering throughout (especially during Hit-Girl's scenes, obviously) and at the end people actually jumped out of their seats applauding. Haven't seen that much enthusiasm in a while; they were even louder than the crowd for District 9.

Agreed. It was the same in my theater. The only negative reactions I can really see coming out of this weekend are a) from people who think it was too violent and try to create controversy like Ebert -- and we all know that would only help the movie, and b) nitpicky comic nerds who hate when things are changed and can't enjoy the movie as a different take on it -- and we all know they have no impact on the failure of a movie.

You're saying this about someone who prefers Watchmen the movie to Watchmen the comic :lol

This is meant to somehow support your opinion and make it seem less silly, right?

HEY YOU, yea you, SCULLIBUNDO. You were dead wrong about Surface of the Sun. Dead wrong. Made the scene so fucking epic. Holy fuck towards the end with the contrast between the black/white and the orange from the side. It was fucking beautiful.

Going to watch this again on Sunday, mostly so I can see that part again. Amazing. That song makes everything that much better.

edit: I didnt like some of the changes made...especially the fact that the audience knows ahead of time that
Red Mist is an undercover "spy".
I may have forgotten, but that was a surprise in the comic right? I remember going OH SHIT!

damn what an awesome movie, never read the comics but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

The action sequences were great and so well shot compared to shitty so called "action" movies, namely Bourne series.

Either way if they decide to make a sequel I hope they take as much care into the details as this one.

I love the fact that the violence is realistic, none of this people running into the open while 4+ guys shoot at them and they for some reason don't land a hit.

I noticed that after
BD dies and Kick-Ass and HG return to the hideout, she has two bullet shots to the chest in her bullet-proof vest
I like the amount of detail that went into the movie in terms of the action sequences. Overall I loved the movie because I was either laughing or in awe of how great the violence was.

For the most part, yes.
But HG running down the hallway was borderline imo. There were like 6+ people there with semis, shottys and pistols
. Just barely believable

Just got back. Generally loved it.

The expansions on the story from the comic mostly worked.
Big Daddy's death scene was much better and more moving, how he was directing Hit Girl as he burned.
Cage was fantastic in this.

I saw nearly everyone else commenting on these, but I agree that
him getting the girl and the jetpack were both utterly ridiculous. The film generally captured the spirit of the comic, but those elements just didn't work. Very bad calls.

Otherwise, brilliant. Hit Girl is a new classic character and child performance.

I was fine with that up until her mid-air reloading (as seen in the trailers). They pushed that a bit too far.

I did like the La Femme Nikita shot toward the end though.

It was a surprise but I mean, I don't see it being a negative change. We got to know him and his dad better.

Was Cage imitating someone with that voice? It was kinda weird and I could see it turning a lot of people off.

The mid-air reloading was pretty ridiculous, but fucking awesome. Everyone cheered at that

Yea, I guess in film they cant really separate McLovin from Red Mist since the audience would instantly know who it is. It's bittersweet, more character development but no surprise. A worse change imo is Big Daddy's backstory, but oh well.

yeah, that part stood out to me as well...but it wasn't too hard to gloss over. would still probably watch again.

He was imitating the staccato voice patterns of the original TV Batman.

Everyone cheered at the
jetpack
stuff at my show, and applauded at the end. I thought it was too over the top, but in the theater at least, that was definitely the minority view.

Hm, I dont think a lot of viewers will realize this, myself included :lol I heard a lot of "wtf is wrong with him" "he's a horrible actor" when he talked.

I think it was because to the movie goers, it was already kind of an overthetop movie with the bazooka, badass Hit Girl and all that. The comic was much more...realistic and that "thing" would have been even MORE out of place.

Way too long for an avatar gif and not in the trailer either.

But I agree. That was my favorite scene from the movie. ^_^

You wait, I will make it into a gif dammit. Obviously not now since it's not available in high quality.

Hell yeah it is.

Speaking of, I think another reason the change with her in the movie works is that in the book I feel she's a much more shallow/dumb character. But the movie painted her as a genuinely nice girl.
So I think it makes sense that she would end up being with a complete dork. You know, that's FAR more realistic than anything involving Hit Girl -- and I mean even in the comic.

Well if they had just made her a shallow/dumb character in the first place...it wouldnt be a problem! Yea they didn't emphasize her snootyness enough in the movie like the comic for it to make sense here.

Wait, the girl that played Katie also played Cusack's ditsy 80's girlfriend in Hot Tub Time Machine? Dave's friend was also in that as Jacob.

Those two had a nice past few weeks, eh?

I thought the movie was boring and kinda dull. Hit Girl and Big Daddy were the only saving graces of the film, but even then some of Hit Girl's scenes fell flat.

I don't know, something about it didn't really click with me which is too bad because I was really excited about the movie.

Saw it last night and loved it. Got a question and if it's already been answered then apologies but this thread is getting too big to read all of it.

At the very end when Red Mist puts on the new mask and quotes the line which I assume is from Jack Nicholson's Joker, is he becoming a super villain? If so, is it supposed to be a set-up for a sequel?

Not sure about the quote, but I do believe the
sequel to the comic is being created, and a movie is planned to be in the works as well.

That's the same ending as the comic actually, teasing that
he's going to become a super villain
.

Mark Millar says he has a trilogy in mind, the sequel is going to be called Balls to the Wall. :lol He'll probably start on that after his Nemesis series is done.

Yep it is.

It's clearly left open for one and Matthew Vaughn and Mark Millar have said they have ideas for it. Which is why having the comic book ending in the film would make no sense who would go and see a sequel to a film where the lead character
ends up jerking off to a phonepic of his ex girl sucking a cock.

Yeah, like I said, it was damn funny. But the movie goes for a slightly different tone and that ending wouldn't have worked out. And again, dammit, I was hoping it would end that way in the comic too. It's probably the old high school nerd part of me who just wanted to see
the nerd get the hot girl
. :lol

Anyone who complains that isn't realistic though is just silly. It DOES happen, believe it or not! But I mean, come on, the idea of the comic was a realistic take on what would happen if a guy became a superhero in real life but all realism went out of the as soon as Hit Girl was introduced. Everything about her character screams "only in comic books" -- both in the comic and the film.

Saw it earlier this week. Thought it was brilliant, made me giddy in parts. Especially the beatdown set to The Prodigy. Very smart movie too, and some really interesting set up for a sequel, should they choose to do one. It also stands perfectly on its own though.

The comic is fucking awful in comparison, the writer and director did a hell of a job polishing that turd.

Definitely don't agree it was a turd, I loved the comic.

But honestly, I'm thinking I liked the movie better. The casting really brought the characters to life. I remember people being a little iffy on Cage as Big Daddy but it really was perfect.

I thought the comic bore a lot of the hallmarks of Miller's work. Great, great concept but utterly awful execution. Reprehensible characters, utterly no connections, tired, forced "geek" references and meta-humour, but worst of all boring. Big Daddy, for example, is utterly redundant in the comic. And compare the climax with that of the film. The tone is off, pacing and set-up are both horribly compressed and the denouement was unsatisfying.

I'll elaborate with spoiler tags if you like :)

The comic seems to focus more on shock value moments such as
Big Daddy's death
. Now I think that works in its own unique way, however I think the movie did that plot point better. It was wasn't a random punch to the gut, it was more emotional. And I thought Cage's one really serious scene where he's talking to Marcus in the movie added to
his death
. Big Daddy is a better character in the film than in the comic.

Millar's version goes more for a "everyone deep down is a giant piece of shit" negative tone, while the movie is much more positive. I appreciate both but I enjoy positivity more.

I want a Millar-cut on the Blu-ray where:

- Dave doesn't end up with Katie. Instead she sends him a pic of herself sucking her boyfriend's dick and he jerks off to it while crying.
- Big Daddy is really just a crazy delusional fuck with a comic obsession who twisted and warped his innocent little daughter after his wife left him, and, tied to that.. Hit-Girl does coke on the elevator at the end.
- "Six weeks ago, I was Heroes season one. Now, as far as the 'net was concerned, I was Season fucking Two."

Just give me these 3 things and the movie would be perfect.

Sounds like every GAF-ers nihilistic wet dream. Seriously dumping characters in a cynical dump of shit at the end of your story is appealing to you?

-So Katie is made to look like a giant cunt because another guy lied to her, this is the girl he wanted to spend his life with? Jerking off to the picture - well wow, sounds like a self loathing girl-age thread.
-Big Daddy in the movie HAS twisted and warped his innocent little daughter for revenge. Adding this twist servers no purpose besides fucking with the audience. How the fuck would a a huge comic book nerd train his daughter to be a killing machine?
- That line is actually funny.

Conclusion, lucky I hadn't read the comic first.

If they had changed 100% of all of Katies story in the movie, it might have played better.

But in the film, shes still a girl who goes out with a Coke dealing Thug...that is something that better feeds into the comic story, where she is very much a trashy person.

On your second part: you're 100% right. It's a very sight and unimportant difference (and it actually makes it more realistic in the movie). And based on his drawings I think it's pretty obvious that he is a comic book nerd in the movie. They just didn't mention it blatantly.

Not at all. A girl dating a drug dealer doesn't make the girl trashy. I dunno about you, but I've known a lot of girls who date giant pieces of shit and I'll look at them and think "how in the world is a girl like that with someone like him?" And I mean she did dump him.

Its behavior that is in line with who the character is in the comic book.

It just sort of clashes with what the movie is trying to portray the girl as...which is a 100% wish fulfillment character.

Someone earlier said that the movie looks like it was shot with the intention of following the comic, but then was changed for fear of going too far. That is definitely what it feels like. You can see the threads of the comic just dangling from the movie.
