So guys, could someone tell me why it wasn't released simultaneously? Budget reasons? I didn't really follow this film until all the positive impressions got to me, I have no idea why they're forcing Americans to wait until the 16th.
It's a British film. The money goes to the British film industry.
Hence, Britain gets the film earlier.
Also payback for all those billions of films you do get before us.

I usually complain when an adaptation is not slavish to the book so i enjoted 300 and Sin City, however Kick Ass was a really great adaptation and it built on what was in the comic quite well and some parts even better. I was a bit surprised with what happened with McLovin being quite different but it did not take too much away from the film. Shame the blowjob phone pic was not in the film because that shit made me laugh. i reeally loved the film and people weren't kidding when they said the Hit Girl last action sequence was kick ass. Seriously John Woo would be proud.:lol

Same! That is, I got back from watching it a couple of hours ago too. I hadn't read the comic, meaning I expected nothing- I loved it :D

Maybe I'm just being prudish, but is anyone else surprised that this is rated as just a "15" in the UK?

I think it shows how progressive the BBFC are. They're the best when it comes to age rating films.

Yeah this is gonna sound crazy but

Eyes Wide Shut > The Shining
After re-watching The Shining this past weekend, I have to say: you're fucking crazy. The only thing bad about The Shining was Olive Oyl as the wife.

Regarding the blowjob

In the comic, when Dave outs himself by revealing not only that he is straight but that he is Kick Ass. The girl gets all upset and calls him a deceitful pervert and all that Jazz. Her bf then threatens to kick Dave's ass and to top it off she sends him a picture of her blowing her black boyfriend and he has a wank to it.

This has already been said but it bears repeating - the television commercials for this movie are... well, pretty strange for a movie rated - and I quote from the MMPA - "Rated R for strong brutal violence throughout, pervasive language, sexual content, nudity and some drug use - some involving children." The commercials seem to make it more like Spy Kids than something by Mark Millar.

I'm half tempted to go on an opening night just to see how many parents pull their kids out of the theater after the first couple of violent scenes. :D

nice, they are screening this at 10pm, not midnight next Thursday! Can't wait.

Sweet. Can't wait to read your review.

:D If it's as "kick-ass" as I hope, I may go to a matinee the next day as well.
You'll be the first of US GAF to watch this. You're special. ;)

I seen this last night and thought it was fantastic. Very funny in places and I loved the action. Not to everybodys taste I imagine but a thumbs up from me.

Damn! They did a bloody good job of that didn't they? I was totally sold that Kick Ass was a complete American production. Film will, and should be a hit.
I'd totally have to agree with this. Shit is cash yo

Wait, this movie is British?

What the fuck?

I found at yesterday that the kid who plays Kick Ass is British and now this?

My mind has been blown twice. What the fuck.

EDIT: Well at least that explains why Dexter Fletcher is in it :lol

So anyway, Dexter Fletcher spotting aside, totally movie of the year so far. Better than Holmes, which I thought was exceptionally good despite it being a Guy Ritchie film.

I hope Iron Man 2 can match its awesome, I've been looking forward to that for far too fucking long for it to disappoint. Also Scott Pilgrim looks pretty amazing.

Mark Strong actually spoils a bit of the plot, so be careful if you aren't familiar with the story.

At uni, Mark Kermode gave me a lecture on The Exorcist, and introduced an uncut print of The Devils with Ken Russell. I've also seen his band, and his wife has lectured me. True story.

(Sam Mendes went to my school).

Yeah, full episode has some spoilers

like how Mark Strong beats Hit-Girl ( that actually was very unsettling for me)

Matthew actually asked Mark Strong to STAMP on her head at the end. Mark refused because he believed that the character ( hit-girl) would probably be dead had that been done.

wow

Yeah? Well, my dad's car is bigger than your dad's car! :lol

Just came back from a US preview screening of this. Absolutely loved it, easily one of the most fun movies I've seen in a very long time. The changes from the comic fit the tone of the movie very well, I thought. Everyone loved
the jetpack
:lol. As has been said before, Hit-Girl absolutely stole the show. All of her action scenes were amazing, especially the
hallway at D'Amico's place
. Nic Cage was good too, very over the top and Adam West Batman like (if only for the costume and voice combo :lol). Can't wait to give this movie my money and see it again in a week and a half.

Good shit, can't wait for the (hopefully) sequel.

Just saw a screening here in Atlanta. Probably one of the best graphic novel movies I've seen.

Second to Ghost World.

The movie lives up to the hype GAF. And I got a free Hit Girl shirt too. They had shirts of all the characters. My friends said I got the shitty shirt before the movie started. They both got Kick Ass, and I think I saw some Red Mist shirts floating around. They wanted to trade after the movie, but I told them to fuck off :lol

EDIT: haha, I got an Adam West vibe from Nic Cage too, Tucah. I love that he only did it when he had the mask on.

So I saw the screener yesterday in NY and it was fucking awesome. Funny, fun, all-around great movie. Didn't take itself so seriously. It was great till the very end.

Got a Kick-Ass shirt. It is awesome.
I feel like reading the comics now.

Edit: I knew absolutely nothing about the comic and thought it was just another stupid superhero movie until my friend convinced me to go. I was like why not since it was free. I was blown away.

That was possibly the most depressing thing in the whole comic. Powerful, but depressing as fuck.

Saw this last night. It was an absolute blast. Hit Girl was undoubtedly the highlight of the movie but it was great all round from all of the cast.

Though I did have a particularly strange experience with a rather loud laugher sitting next to me who burst out laughing during all the violent moments in the movie, yet was mostly silent throughout the more humorous parts.

Rottenwatch Update: 83% with 46 Reviews

Almost all the negative reviews deals with Hit Girl and the morals of the movie, so stupid.

Not really, I'm sure some had legitimate problems with it like they did with pedo Professional. There's a barrier that won't be crossed any time soon. It's going to take a while.

Haters gonna hate

Seriously though, if these critics can't even lay aside their own personal convictions on certain aspects. Then they're not really taking a professional stance on their jobs.

I saw it last night, went in blind as I hadn't really heard about it before. Absolutely loved the over the top action scenes and the image of a teen girl killing people in a brutal fashion made me laugh but the teen drama side of it dragged it down for me. Maybe it's because I'm not the market for that type of thing.
I'll admit, at first, the character of Hit Girl was a little uncomfortable for me and left me with a slight niggling feeling about whether someone so young should be portraying this kind of role, maybe an older actress who could be made to look young might have been better.

The most amazing part for me was that I didn't hate Nicolas Cage in it, he still cant act but seemed to suit this role well.

I don't blame people for saying Nicolas Cage can't act. What with all the shit he's been in for the majority of his latter career.

But just one look at Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation or hell even Face/Off shows he can act.
