A Look Ahead : Could 2015 Be a Record Setting Year for the PS4?

Damn it OP, how can you forget such a return after a 10 year absence?

2015 is going to be better than 2007. Can't believe Battlefront is making a comeback.

Are we confident on that 2015 date for Battlefront?

I mean .... a game just a year away I would love to see atleast ... something from first. Why I was hesitant with Uncharted lol.

Uncharted though will be the big E3 splash along with God of War ( fingers crossed )

God, and my backlog is huge, too.

Must gets: Bloodborne, The Order, Persona 5, Uncharted 4, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Rime, Tearaway, Metal Gear Solid V, No Man's Sky, maybe God Eater . There's probably more, but I'm scared for the sake of my money to double check the list.

Assuming nothing slips into fall/early 2016 (which it's almost inevitable that some will) early 2015 is looking really nice. February is looking more exciting than Oct/Nov of this year.

I highly doubt it will sell 30 million next year. Most of the games listed don't have the mass appeal to be real system sellers. I'd say the games that will move a lot of systems are:

Uncharted 4
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain(yes I know it's multiplatform, but MGS is so associated with Playstation)
Batman: Arkham Knight(multiplatform, but it is current gen only so it will probably move quite a few consoles as well)

That's not to say that a lot of the other games won't be great, but they're not games that will really move PS4s outside of their niche audiences. Nevertheless, 2015 looks like a great year for the PS4 and gaming in general. I'll be getting mine once Persona 5 releases and I'm looking forward to Bloodborne as well.

2015 does look like a promising year, but OP is really, REALLY on a dangerous hype course here, especially making it sound like PS4 is the only gaming platform that'll have a "good" year in 2015. Lots of hyperbole and grandiose dreams that will disappoint if not realized.

I'd say lets let the year come and see what happens.

I mean, 30 million consoles in a year? ComeOnSon.gif

It's obviously not going to sell that many, but honestly there is nothing to stop PS4 from selling like mad outside of Nintendo/MS giving out crazy bundles (like $250 for a Wii U and 3 games type stuff) and Halo 5. Other than that? The perception that the PS4 is the de facto next gen console to have is only going to get stronger.

Are you serious?

REALLY on a dangerous hype course?

The PS4 is likely going to sell 15 million or more consoles Year 1. Year 2 is looking, software wise, to completely kill 2014. So demand is only going to get stronger as time moves along. As more and more games fall, you have various different gamers jumping into the mix. If Japan gets involved with the PS4. If China receives it well. You never know.

Some of the best selling consoles of all time are in the 25m WW a year range from previous generations. But usually, the first year is pretty standard stuff. 8-10m or so. 15m year 1 for a console is pretty much unheard of yeah?

30m is yes, stretching it. Which is why I called it a record setting / historic type year if it indeed hits that mark. My point is simply, the console is selling like it is even without those mega blockbuster must have or die titles. Bloodborne looks to be the first of that bunch hitting, and it hits very early in 2015. Setting up the rest of the year quite nicely where massive titles like Dragon Quest, Persona, Final Fantasy, Uncharted, etc. are waiting in the wings.

Next year will be absolutely insane for RPG fans at least, and a lot of those are gonna be on the PS4. Really excited for P5, Ys, Type-0, Witcher 3, Bloodborne for PS4... Cosmic Star Heroine (if that's 2015) for anything, Xenoblade X for WiiU, and Tales of Zestiria for PS3. And hopefully TITS2 for PC finally comes out.

I'm so incredibly hyped for 2015 especially for these 5 games (buying all on day 1) :
Bloodborne
The Witcher 3
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Zelda U
Rime

And to a lesser extend i also look forward a lot for these:
Tales of Zestiria
FFType-0 HD
Ys
The Tomorrow Children
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
Splatoon
Yoshi's Wooly World
Shiness

If all these turn out as good as i hope they will then i wouldn't care if nothing else comes out next year.

All I see is IF, IF, WHAT IF. You want to see the PS4 repeat and/or surpass the PS2, I get it. "Return of the king" yadda yadda, and a cup of tea. I'm just saying, if you over-hype this stuff and look back at the year in December 2015, you end up realizing that it was just another year that had some good games.

I've seen this train come and go year after year. "This YEAR WILL BE THE YEAR!!" etc etc

2015 will go like 2011 and 2012 and 2007 and 2009 did. Lots of anticipation at the start, modest results at the end.

PS4 is going to kill it next year. With so many titles leaving last gen the more casual demographic will heavily migrate into current gen. Word of mouth is strong and at this point it has already been established as common knowledge that PS4 is more capable than Xbone. Anecdotally, many friends and co-workers of mine who haven't jump into current gen are planing to buy PS4 as their next upgrade (well, people waiting for sale) just because of that knowledge. "Why get a weaker machine when both of these machines can play the same games?" is kinda their thought. Exclusive games won't matter much.

PS4 has been distancing itself from XB for a bit. It's got a lot more games and that will continue.

I actually just picked up an XB1 but I was shocked checking the overall releases on Metacritic. It's not even close, PS4 has a lot more available on it simply due to a lot of the cross platform indies that aren't on XB1, as well as games like DCUO, FFXIV, Planetside 2 (eventually), etc.

Sony kicking off the 2015 exclusive game with Bloodborne!

I'm definitely buying a PS4 before next year, and this lineup will be intense.

Next year is so packed that there's no way I'm going to be able to play/afford more than half of them (if even that). Gonna have to make some really tough choices.

Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, and Persona 5 slated for 2015 means it'll be one of my best gaming years in a long time.

Except for some years there are exceptional years to certain people.

TBH I see 2015 being record setting for the PS4 in the negative direction. They've done a shitty job supporting the console functionality as well as with games. I think this holiday will see things swing in the xbone's favor with games like FH2, SO and of course the juggernaut that is MCC.

Sony can only ride the hype and customer goodwill so far and end of this year is when that'll not fly anymore. I say this as someone who bought into the hype.

So you are saying PS4 will sell less than this year?

I'm just going to say HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA /jokerlaugh

Bookmarking this bitch.

If some of the games that have been announced for 2015 don't get delayed (they will), then it could be a great year. I want:

Batman Arkham Knight
Bloodborne
Disgaea 5
Dragon Quest Heroes
Final Fantasy Type-0
Final Fantasy XV
Metal Gear Solid V
No Man's Sky
The Orer 1886
Persona 5
Ratchet & Clank Remaster
Tearaway Unfolded
The Witcher 3
Ys

Rime
The Tomorrow Children
Volume
The Witness
Wild

Plus whatever I may have missed and whatever hasn't been announced yet.

O_O Are you being serious!?

The Order: 1886, Bloodborne, Rime, No Man's Sky, and Uncharted 4 is enough for me. The rest is just a bonus. Next E3, GamesCom and TGS will be grand. That's when the heavy hitters are coming.

What made you get a Xbox One?

Speaking of Ratchet, we should be close to seeing the re-imagining for the first time. Insomniac said that we'd see it some time this fall.

Expect to catch your first glimpse of the PS4 Ratchet & Clank game this fall – follow us on our social channels below to learn more.

Gonna be interesting to see since they're promising this

As was mentioned during SonyÂ’s press conference , the game will share the filmÂ’s vision of RatchetÂ’s origin story, and features updated gameplay along with completely new visuals that rival the best PS4 games on the market.

I think that this is the first high budget cartoony game that we're going to see for the PS4 or Xbox One.

2015 is the year of the PS4. Definitely is for me.

Bloodborne
Persona 5
Uncharted 4
FF Type 0 HD
RE HD
RE Revelations 2
MGSV
Disgaea 5
Ys 8
God Eater 2 Burst
Ratchet and Clank Redux
No Mans Sky
Rime
Wild
The Tomorrow Children
Hyper Light Drifter

All thats missing is The Last Guardian which will solidify 2015 as the greatest year in gaming for me.

It should be a really strong year for the PS4 and should be up on this year but I don't think it'll break any records for best 2nd year or anything.

The "no games" thing really gets to people, doesn't it?

2015 will be better for the PS4 perception, for sure. I doubt I'll own more than five games for it before 2017, to be completely honest, but once it starts getting some exclusives next year there will be less for people to complain about in general about it.

Edit: Forgot about all of those Vita multiplats, not that that is anything to really brag about. I will likely choose PS4 for all of those though. Already starting with Akiba's Trip.

Compared to whom?

Everyone?

Nintendo got Hyrule Warriors just today, MK8 not long ago, and MOTHERF@#$ING SMASH soon. Not to mention loads of support for the 3DS.

MS paid loads of money for Titanfall, D4 that just released, SO coming, FH2, and MCC coming. Not to mention they had more big budget exclusive games at release.

Sony's last big exclusive was Infamous and then a downloadable game made with Infamous assets, bad exclusives at launch, indie games that they didn't even really have to work for because of MS's idiotic parity clause. This holiday they've got a game that was supposed to released at launch and LBP3 a sequel to a series that has hugely waned in popularity and isn't even made by the original developer. Sony has all but admitted that they've stopped supporting the Vita on the other hand, instead letting indie developers take the load of selling their systems for them.

I think the comparison is pretty clear. Look, Sony is poor, I get it. Which is why I don't blame them really. But the fact that we've gotten fewer big games and almost non-existent firmware updates with features that were promised ages ago isn't any less true just because they are poor.

Things are looking brighter next year with Bloodborne and The Order (which looks pretty bad TBH), but I just don't have any confidence they can keep that up.

Eh? Why are you completely ignoring the 2015 titles?

Eh? Why are you completely ignoring the 2015 titles?

I mentioned Bloodborne and The Order in my edit. But holidays are always the most important time of year for the success of a console. In my original post I stated how I believed that the tide would begin turning this holiday because the competitors have FAR better releases coming. Also with the Xbone constantly getting new features every single month, the box itself would look better feature-wise compared to the PS4 during holidays as well.

I mean seriously why no news on FW 2.0 still? Sony can post a billion blogposts about even the smallest indie that I'm certain almost no one cares about, but they can't spare one to at least give a quick update on 2.0 to reassure people that the promised features are coming soon?
