Hey ckohler, I was wondering if you had any control over which keyboard pops up in mobile Safari? One small nice thing would be when you input a page number for the jump to page, it would pull up a keyboard with numbers on it. Just curious if there was any way to handle that. Posting is amazing.
There isn't any way to do that. Only one keyboard in Safari for form elements.

Just wanted to say thanks and that it's awesome again. I have the option to jump to last post but hitting > doesn't do that automatically, not even sure if it's supposed to, but hitting the \/ on the page does so it's still super fast.

Thank you very much for your work.

I'm sure I've had a numpad pop up somewhere before (that wasn't the phone).

A numeric keypad used to be supported in Mobile Safari (I remember that the Fandango web app supported it for inputting your zip code), but it was quietly removed when the OS 2.0 firmware hit. Now it'll just bring up the standard keyboard no matter what.

Yeah, that feature never worked well because images and such load after the page is rendered, causing it to jump to the wrong place. I may ultimately remove that.

Just used this today and had no idea that it was updated. Imagine how surprised I was to see the "Login" button!

Works like a charm and I couldn't ask for more! Thanks man! :D

I love it. It deserves to be an official app store download so we can proudly display the GAF logo as an icon on the main screen.

you can already do that. load up web app. click on plus icon on bottom of safari screen, select "add to homescreen" tada. gaf icon on iphone home screen.

(also, Juice is working on a native app which should offer an alternative)

Any way to have pages displayed independent of what you have set for GAF in your User CP? 100 posts per page is fine on a PC, but that's quite a lot of scrolling on my phone. :lol

Other than that, NeoGAF is now my most used bookmark on the go. :D

Hey ckohler, I have a suggestion that actually falls outside of doing anything to the web app. Would you mind editing your OP with instructions on how to create a webclip icon for the app on the iPhone/iTouch? It might help the new people who aren't aware of being able to do that let alone how to do it. Would be great so that in the future when people ask about it, we can just point them to your OP which will have all the details.

So the new age restriction doo-dads... does this mean the GAF app can get a full proper release now? :D

You'll have to ask Juice that. He's the one working on the neogaff app for the app store. This thread is for the webapp, which has no need to be on the app store.

Sorry but it has to reflect your CP settings. Another nifty side effect is when you set post to be in reverse order (newest to oldest). The web app will also display that way.

Good idea. I'll work on this when I have some free time and have it list all of the recent improvements. Those old screenshots don't really do it justice anymore either, so I can update those too.

There is still a weird bug when posting long posts that I haven't been able to figure out yet. I tried testing it some today but can't understand the problem so it's best to keep posts made in the web app short for now.

I don't understand how their could be confusion... you hit the favorites button and it suggests send to home screen or to the bookmarks folder. It's very intuitive.

Shame about the posts per page being based off the CP... I might just change it on my PC so that it carries over.

Not a big fan of adding GAF as an icon in springboard personally. Clicking on it opens up GAF in a new tab versus just opening it in the same window.

I end up having to close my other tab everytime, so I just use the Safari bookmark instead.

You mean long posts not appearing at all? It also seems to count quotes as part of the long post, I think.

It's not that it's hard, but I think a lot of people don't realize you can do it. There's a lot of people asking about it too. When you think abou it, as far as I know, it's something that I've only ever seen on the iPhone so new iPhone users won't even realize they can. So if they don't know they can do it, chances are they won't even know how to do it.

holy shit, i just totally realized that safari on the iphone can fully display animated .gif's. when did this happen? through the 3.0 update???

Love this "app" but I'm getting constant 500 errors trying to access gaming side while ot and online work fine

Same problem here.

I'm using a Palm Pre, if that makes any difference.

Another issue I have is that there doesn't seem to be any way to tell how far down a page you already scrolled or an easy skip to top/bottom of page.

Awesome app though. Browsing GAF through a normal mobile browser was a pain. Having everything formatted so I don't have to constantly zoom in and out makes it so much easier.

Same here as well, 500 errors on the gaming side, Palm Pre user.

Let me also say, excellent app! I certainly appreciate it.

Not sure about Palm Pre, but on the iPhone, there's a bar that appears that shows scroll position. Also, tapping on the title of the thread will skip you to the bottom (on iPhone, tapping the menu bar always brings you to top of the page).

ckohler,

Not sure if you take requests. But, is it possible to have an option of switching the "main" button with the name of the other main (Gaming / OT) forum you're not browsing? I bet most people use your app mainly for Gaming and OT.

Please disregard if it would be a pain in the butt to implement.

Don't know what to tell you guys about the 500 errors. The web app will only say that IF NeoGAF returns a 500. My app doesn't generate 500 errors, those come from the gaf servers before my app displays the message.

No clue what is wrong. Going to the regular neogaf worked fine. It was all day yesterday, the site was up OT worked fine but the app would 500 on gaming.

This is an amazing piece of work, and one of my most-used Iphone buttons. I salute you.

Two points:

(1) I'm also getting 500 errors today, all day.

(2) For some reason I can no longer click on the spoilers to make them appear.

Going straight to neogaf would work perfectly for me, and I could access everything BUT gaming on the app. Today I can access the first page of the gaming side, but as soon as I try to get to page two, 500 errors, even when I can swap to a different page in mobile safari and load up the second page just fine outside your app.

Yeah I guess. I was a new iPhone user and like I said, it felt very intuitive to me and seemed like an obvious option based on the wording. It certainly couldn't hurt to spell it out in the OP though.

This is great on the Pre, but there are atwo things that's been bugging the hell out of me.

The "go to bottom of page" grey bar doesn't work when you tap it and the page always goes towards the bottom when I click "next page".

Oh yeah, and it always logs me whenever I restart my browser.

Otherwise, everything works great on webOS!

This app has gone from "very useful" to "pretty damn amazing" now that it has all this new stuff.

That said, it seems like the thing is caching "500 internal server error" more frequently these days. I've run into it a handful of times over the past week, and in all the cases I checked "NeoGAF proper" was functional.

Arrg! I figured out why you guys were getting the 500 errors! Some genius put the exact phrase "500 - Internal Server Error" in the title of his thread and THAT was throwing my app off. :lol I had to change the way I detect 500 errors.

That's messed up. There's nothing fancy about the way that scroll button works. It's just an in page anchor, one of the oldest web techniques out there. Every browser should support it. Clicking the next page button also is also nothing special. It's just a link. These issues sound more like problems with the Pre UI and the way it incorporates the webkit browser to me.

As for you getting logged out when you restart your browser, I'm stunned. Do you get logged out of other sites too because it sounds like to me the Pre is throwing out your cookies. Maybe check your settings.

Thanks so much! I didn't realize how much I love this app until I couldn't look at Gaming Discussion for a few hours.
Keep up the great work.
