anovice, I can't wait to see how many recommendations your app gets in the software thread. :D Maybe I should just put it in there now? :lol

Holy crap, that thread's amazin'! Awesome work. :-)

The Android version is wicked rough, but working. I hope I can get y'all something, soon.

Thanks. :) Well, if you ever want to, um, send me an APK, I could, like, test it on my own emulator... :lol

anovice, let me know if there are any meta tags I can add to the output HTML that would help you. I would suggest making the Reload button in your toolbar become a Stop button when loading. In fact, I may have a couple more interface suggestions tomorrow. What you have now is perfectly fine, however.

Has anyone else been getting Neogaf Unavailable messages every now and the for the last few days?

But if I go to the forum at neogaf.com it is actually working.

Weird.

Yes, I've been noticing that also. I think that neogaf.com is taking too long to respond (or MediaTemple too long to make the request) so the cURL operation is timing out. It was set to give up after waiting only 5 seconds. I've increased it to 15. Let's see if that helps. I can increase it more if needed.

My version doesn't look like that. Do I have the wrong URL?

Also, is there any way in Safari to HOME or END a page? It's a pain in the ass when you have a loooooooooooooong page in any site to scroll to one end of it because you're constantly flicking for up to a minute to get it to the end. Does the iPhone Safari have a hidden HOME and END feature?

Alternatively, can we get an option to show less posts per page? On my computer I have the maximum, but I also have a scrollbar. On the iPod touch I don't have those luxuries so having shorter pages would be convenient.

At the top of a thread, to the right of the thread title, there's an arrow pointing down. Press that.

I think there are bookmarklets that do it, but natively, Mobile Safari only has the home (tap top info bar).

Yeah, but you can only press it if you are at the top. If I'm already halfway down, I have no option except to scroll in one direction or the other. Why is there no shake motion to do this, Apple? Shake up for HOME, shake down for END. Sideways for reload. Simple as that. Do it, Apple!

If you tap the status bar (where the time/reception/etc are) it'll take you to the top of the page.

Nothing to get to the bottom? I guess this is good for the GAF app since I can then click the arrow. But it won't help on most other sites. Oh well. If only a double-click went to the bottom.

If you're jailbreaked, there are apps that will give you a scrollbar

I just tried this out on my new Sony Erriccson (T715), it looks perfect on there too, unlike on my blackberry the bit at the very top is formatted properly too.
Love it.

weird bug that's cropped up for me today. 1st post of any page in a thread is always blank.

edit: :lol spent way too much time with this reply window open

The first post missing bug should be fixed now. One of the admins must have altered the HTML a little today.

Also, I'm testing a new feature exclusive to iPhones and iPod touches. Whenever you use one of these devices, any YouTube URLs should now show up as clickable thumbnails. If the thumbnail is not clickable, you know that YouTube clip is not available to be viewed in the iPhone or iPod, saving you time.

That is awesome! Thanks. Will save much time.

That is awesome. Words cannot express how thankful I am for all the work you've done for this.

Could you still include the links of the videos that aren't watchable so I can save them to check out later?

Does this feature tax the browser at a higher rate? I was browsing just looking at the 'asian girl smashes ps3' thread and mSafari slowed to a crawl. Or... maybe it was that one GIF. Goddam, we don't need a toggle for all images, just on for gifs only :/

Is there a way to re-order the headers on the main page? I want to SEE my pm box everytime I hit that page, and instead I see two forums I'm never going to visit (faq & online). It would be so cool to get rid of those and put em at the bottom.

I've added the ability to customize the order of the main menu. Go into the Settings screen to configure it.

The web app doesn't know if the videos will play or not. It just embeds the video and whatever YouTube displays as the thumbnail indicates if it works or not. Also, the point of disabling images is more about saving bandwidth (when using edge or 3G) than increasing performance.

Incredible app - I use it all the time. If I may humbly submit a feature request:

Would it be possible to have a refresh link at the bottom of a page that anchors to the final post on the page (even the final post pre-refresh). If you're trying to keep close tabs on a thread, it's a minor pain to jump to the top, reload, and jump to the bottom.

Sorry if something like this already exists and I'm just missing it.

So when did it become possible to have Youtube videos show thumbnails and play without leaving the webapp? I noticed it first here and then on Facebook. Love it, regardless. Pseudo-embedding ftw.

Update:
Version 2.6 is now live.

NEW FEATURES
  • View member's recent posts/threads - When viewing a member's profile, there is now a button to view their posts and threads. This uses GAF's search feature, so you have to wait 60 seconds between lookups.
  • Changed the "Log Out" button on main menu to "Your Profile". The Log Out button is now located on your profile page, instead. As with any profile page, can also view your own recent posts/threads there.
  • YouTube thumbnails are now displayed on iPhones/iTouch when images are enabled. When images are disabled, it shows the standard link.

I've noticed this and thought it was a Safari feature or something. Should have known better that our own Miles Prower was responsible.

Awesome work, dude.

Sweet! those are some excellent updates.

Have you guys tried the Dragon Dictation app for the iPhone yet? It's pretty freaking awesome. I dictated this entire post without having to type barely a single character. It makes using the web app like 10 times better! The only edits you have to make are to some of the punctuation.

I don't think that would work too well when I post replies on mobileGAF from the bathroom stall at work.
