A Terminator game similar to Alien Isolation

Would anyone like a terminator styled game in the vein of Alien Isolation? I have not played Alien Isolation but from what little I have seen of the gameplay footage I think a similar gameplay system with the player taking control of Sarah corner and playing a hopefully expertly crafted stealth game that always involves being hidden from the terminator, sounds like a mouth watering prospect. I really think it could work. I mean imagine a set peice similar to the police station shoot out in T1 where you are playing cat and mouse with the terminator inside wrecking havok while listening to this badass music playing in the background.

Would that not be cool GAF?

Sounds even better to be honest (as someone who isn't a huge fan of horror - I shouldn't have tried AI with oculus).

Sure, it wouldn't be pure/as heavy on the stealth like AI.

I've never played a terminator game but I could imagine it being really fun - there's a movie due too right. When was the last game?

Hmm yeah it could also involve a lot of running around while being showered by bullets. But there should of course only be one single antagonist. Does anybody know who owns the rights to the Terminator video game IP?

The only time the movies actually had stealth in it was the first at the end where they crushed the machine. I don't know, I feel like Terminator is more of an action game. Now if someone would make a Terminator with the same loving detail and passion that went into Alien Isolation I would love that.

Sounds good, but there is one minor problem with this idea. In Alien you are in a space station, tight corridors, no way to run forever.
In terminator... well, let's face it realisitcally. The world is way to open for that type of gameplay. And if you want to make a 80's style Terminator, then it would be too easy to run away from it. Surveilance is non-existent (internet, cameras etc), and the Terminator is a big lump of metal with a simple programming, too easy to avoid (think of the scene in T1 where he almost misses the call from Sarah to her appartment. He would think he finished his mission). Finally some heavier backup would go into action (he can't just walk and kill forever with no penalties for it).

I don't want to say it wouldn't work, because the idea for a stealth Terminator game sounds great, but in the long run it doesn't make sense. A great idea for a level or two, but not for a whole game. It could work better in a future, but there you have more than one Terminator, so the whole tension goes down a lot.

I was just in an OT thread talking about how great of a horror movie The Terminator is.

In short, yes, I support.

sounds like a good idea until you realize terminators can see in the infrared frequency so steath and hiding isn't going to work well. I like the running idea tho.

.

It has the potential to be amazing. A run to the Time Displacement akin to the first level of the Megadrive game. Being chased by police through the store and streets. A build up to Tech Noir. Intense car chase. The police station...

Alas we'll probably get a cheap virtual cop style Genisys tie in and thats it.

Depends on the timeline used. I can see it working as a present day thing where you play as Sarah Conner and / or Kyle Reese, with Arnold chasing you around and you gotta run. But if set in the future, I feel that would work better as a DayZ style survival simulator, replacing the zombies with the machines instead.

Then again, being chased around by Arnold suddenly doesn't sound so scary, lol.

Sounds good but I'd prefer WB commission Creative Assembly to make a Blade Runner detective game.

Yes, this would be fantastic. Hopefully Sega's new digital and mobile focus doesn't prevent CA's Alien: Isolation team from making another big budget game.

I'd also like to see someone take another shot with John Carpenter's The Thing.

Yeah that's basically what I was thinking. It's really tough to get a game like that right, and it's something I've gone over in my head many times before. The game would have to have lots of padding.

Theoretically the open design could work to the games advantage in a way. You get transported in to the world naked. Your first objective is to find and put on clothes without being spotted. Then you need to get yourself a weapon or weapons, get yourself a vehicle. This could actually be done in a fairly open way where the player can chooose how to go about it. Then you've got to find the victim you ned to protect and follow them without being noticed, keeping an eye out for anyone that looks like they might be he Terminator. All the while the clock is ticking. If you're not fast and efficient enough in these early parts of the game then the Terminator may reach the target before you. This early game could actually be pretty interesting mechanically. Then the first real chase sequence will start and that's where the story opens up as well as the oh shit we need to get away from this thing gameplay. At certain points the game will put you in tight spaces where you're hiding as opposed to running.

Sounds great, right? The problem is how long can all of this last? The opening sounds interesting. Various chase sequences could be tense and exciting, and hiding sequences would be tense. But what about in between those parts? Padding would be needed, and it would be difficult to stretch the game out in a good way. Large parts of tge game would likely be filled with non gameplay segments. With good writing I suppose these parts could still be interesting with interesting character development shining through while meaningful gameplay takes the back seat, but it's something difficult to get right and unlike Alien the tension would be hard to keep up in these parts due to not being set in dark claustrophobic environments.

^In between those parts you play the role of the terminator in flash backs to his own time :D
Actually yeah flashbacks would pretty much solve the problem. I'd say flashbacks would be better served playing as your main human character though. It would serve the same purpose the flashbacks did in tbe original. As well as keeping the game interesting from a gameplay perspectiveobviously, it does a great job of showing how grim the future is and gives meaning to your mission.

I've been asking for something similar since release.

Jurassic Park: Isolation.

Make it a series.

Alien: Isolation

Jurassic Park: Isolation

Terminator: Isolation

Predator: Isolation

The Terminator from T1 is scary as hell. I'd love a game based around that.

I'd prefer The Thing: Isolation first though ;)

I was thinking this VERY same thing when I was in the cinema watching Genisys. A T1-style Isolation game would be pretty fucking cool.

But yeah, this sounds like a great idea, especially since you also have to protect someone else.

Friday the 13th: Isolation
Halloween: Isolation
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Isolation
Critters: Isolation
Hellraiser: Isolation
Deep Star Six: Isolation
Jaws: Isolation
Okay, maybe not

This seriously needs to happen. Would be one of my favourite games if done well. Imagine being stalked by Raptors that work together to hunt you down.

It could work but it must play to the first movie's strength. Make the game semi open world and that the Terminator may attack you at any time so you should use your environments to your advantage and escape. The structure of the game should be just like the first movie in a way which is basically a running away from threat movie as soon as Kyle Reese catches up with Sarah Conner.

I think absolutely this would work, but I think there are a few caveats. First, I think it is easier to believe the alien is blind/can't smell or something and you can hide under a desk and avoid him. It's a little harder to believe a computer scanning stuff couldn't spot you. But whatever, I'm willing to suspend my disbelief if it means a good game. But more importantly, the reception to the game in the media probably really scared SEGA. The press is not interested in slow-paced, "trial and error" (not) gameplay and I'm not sure the public is either.

But I think the game was amazing so I hope so.

It'd make more sense to play as some other tertiary character, right? There are too many weird loopholes that make a straight "hide from Arnie" game difficult, but a game about trying to reach people/locations before Arnie and then getting the fuck out of there before he murders you seems a little more interesting.

I kinda think Predator is better suited to the Isolation treatment in general, but even then, where do you set it? The jungle's a bit samey for a stealth game and the cityscape thing is probably played out... do you go off-world a la Predators?

Would buy. You can make it a little more action-orientated by having more options to slow down the Terminator than just a flamethrower.

Switch between Kyle Reese and Sarah, depending on the scenario?

Only problem is that a terminator wouldn't really be all that scary. I suppose it doesn't necessarily have to be horror though.

Different film but I hope you leave enough room for my fist because I’m going to ram it into your stomach and break your god-damn spine!

Would be a good death scene.

The red eyes, the clunk clunk and hydraulics through the darkness and steam. Bashing doors down giving you some time to escape which could be quite tense, get a bit of stop motion animation in there, that is still a little freaky in T1. I think it could work. Verticality would be nice, enough distance between you and the Terminator but your time is limited to set up a trap or escape or hide but you can see it figuring out a way to get to you.

Back in the day around Metal Gear Solid one I had always wondered how Kojima would make a Terminator one game with stealth and running action. I think he'd nail the feel of that universe in mood and music perfectly. But ever since he got all crazy with his story lines I don't think I'd wanna see that anymore. LOL. Good idea though,I'd love to see a T1 game play as Alien Isolation did.
