I can see it. Hollywood Shuffle is like the black version of that to me in some ways so I think in both cases it's a little bit of personal experience being the filter through a film.

Yeah, that might be the case. Haven't seen Hollywood Shuffle though, so I guess I better put it on my to do list.

The Apartment
Dr. Strangelove
Blues Brothers
Annie Hall
The Jerk
Dumb and Dumber
Wayne's World
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Groundhog Day

Not a single mention for Zoolander? Don't think I could ever get bored of that film.

Happy Gilmore.

QFT. These are my 2 favorite funny movies and I still quote lines from them today. Oh, and The Jerk makes me laugh every time I see it rerun on tv.

some of the ones mentioned above are timeless for sure..timeless shits indeed.

anyway

5- Young Frankenstein
4- Airplane!
3- Life of Brian
2- And now for something completely different
1- Annie Hall (god I adore it)

loadsa honorable mentions though..Strangelove, BB, SLIH, and I'd also throw Manhattan Murder Mystery in. I've watched it for like 300 times and it's still top notch comedy, one of the most underrated Allen ever imo

I could have put some Allen films in my top 5 but I'm such a fan, I sort of don't even consider them comedies. More like timeless pieces of art :)

that's a good point, I'm glad we finally agree about something:D . Calling 'em "Comedies" just isn't enough for some of the best Allen. They are among the best movies ever, and no I'm not exaggerating. Allen is (..well, was) a genius and showed it a lot of times

anyway a list is not a list without Annie Hall. Annie Hall deserves to be in every freakin list ever

I don't honestly even remember what we've disagreed about. Unfortunately I rarely remember posters and their opinions unless we post in the same threads over and over again.

Woody Allen and Richard Pryor are imo the two funniest and clever men of my lifetime in their respective fields though. 3rd place is so far down for me its not even worth mentioning in this context because it sounds like an insult when it really isn't.

nothing really important, just some random shit.
Same. Allen is up there, sharing his place with the Pythons. But while the Brits are essentially comic and sketch dudes (I said essentially, Life of Brian is a GREAT movie, and so A fish called Wanda really is a timeless comedy), Allen is an all-around movie dude. Both geniuses, both deserving their place in my very personal chart..and second place is like galaxies away from the top

These are pretty much excerpts from my all-time top 10...

Ghostbusters -- I've seen this hundreds of times, and I still notice new things or laugh at something I didn't notice before. This is one of those films where I don't feel like any scene was wasted. The entire cast rocks, and although he doesn't have too many lines Ernie Hudson has some great ones like, "That's a big Twinkie," or, "I have seen *shit* that'll turn you *white*!"

This is Spinal Tap -- This'll never get old for me. When I first saw this, my buddies and I sat there laughing, but there were times where we were looking at each other wondering, "Is this for real?" So many subtle and not-so-subtle references to *everything* rock-related, and was one of many excellent Rob Reiner films (The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally..., etc.).

Singin' in the Rain -- Technically a musical, but there are so many funny moments in this, I think I can count it here. Donald O'Connor really holds his own with Gene Kelly, and Debbie Reynolds sparkles with youthful enthusiasm and excellent comedic timing.

The Big Lebowski -- I love every scene in this film, and some of the funniest exchanges and lines take a few viewings to catch...

Walter: "Does he still write?"
Pilar: "Oh no... he has health problems!" (guy's in an IRON LUNG)

Walter: "Say what you will about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude... at least it's an ethos."
The Dude: "Yeah." (sitting at a bowling alley bar eating peanuts)

Glengarry Glen Ross -- Not a comedy first and foremost, but the dialogue sparkles so much, and really, does it get any better than hearing Jack Lemmon say c***sucker? Most of the scenes in this film are funny as hell, and is endlessly quotable.

77 posts to say Top Secret? Thread doesn't deliver :(

Zoolander I would also imagine would/has become timeless... male models will always be around!

Love that movie - basically anything w/Allen & Diane Keaton is all win for me.

Since everything obvious has already been mentioned, I'd add What's Up Tiger Lily. I remember thinking it was hilarious, though I haven't watched it in 10 years or so.

Space Balls
Office Space
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Happy Gilmore
Major League "Look at this... fuckin'... guy." :lol
There's Something About Mary
Me Myself & Irene
South Park
Space Jam

Airplane
Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles
History of the World
Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
Vacation
CaddyShack
Used Cars

My problem with most Marx Brothers films and Blazing Saddles too for that matter, is that the ending just falls apart taking the rest of the movie with it in a way.

Hot Fuzz
Anchorman
orange county
rushmore
royal tenenbaums

I do not mind this list one bit.

My list would also include Waiting for Guffman, Grosse Pointe Blank, the Blues Brothers, Life Aquatic in lieu of Tenenbaums (which is a better film but less funny), and Mystery Train.

National Lampoon's Vacation
Trains, Planes, and Automobiles
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Uncle Buck
Spaceballs

Really, anything with John Candy or Chevy Chase.

And probably super unpopular, but Jumping Jack Flash. Love that film.
