In no particular order:

Blues Brothers
This is Spinal Tap
The Big Lebowski
Dr Strangelove
The Great Dictator

Edit for justice: Life of Brian or Holy Grail... any Monty Python actually. And Brazil.

Timeless, all the greatest comedians of an era in one place.

Can't believe I'm the first one to post this.

edit: searched for "mad mad" instead of "mad, mad" in the thread, oops.

I really like a few of the things posted so far, but I've always been most fond of silent comedies. Never gotten the impression that there are many of appreciators here, but for my money, there are few things are great as sitting down with some Harold Lloyd or Buster Keaton flicks. Chaplin was so amazing, too, but not the same sort of humor at all...

Has Annie Hall been mentioned a whole lot? Because if it hasn't, you all suck and need to watch it.

edit: I see some of you know what's up. the rest of you suuuuuuuck.

1. Some Like It Hot
2. Philadelphia Story
3.Dr Strangelove
4. The Apartment
5. Ferris Bueller

Nobody has mentioned Arsenic and old Lace? I'm disappointed in you GAF

Very good film, if i could ranke of the black and white cary grant films together then I would

Oh and:

Kicking And Screaming
Election
Amelie is most certainly a romantic comedy and deserves to be listed, I guess I rarely think of it that fashion. (Thanks Stoney.)

Groundhog Day

Was originally listed in my top 5 and is definitely at least in my top 10.

Also am I the only one in America who thinks Quick Change is borderline brilliant. I swear that movie has been swallowed by time. No one even remembers it, but I think it was hilarious.

Also the first three Farelly brothers flicks

There's Something About Mary
Kingpin
Dumb & Dumber

are aces. I wish their follow up movies were as good as those three although I like parts of Shallow Hal, and Me Myself and Irene but both aren't as consistent as those three.

I consider Holy Grail and Princess Bride the two best comedies ever because they never get old and unlike a lot of great movies, they are accessible to everyone. A PG movie that can make people really laugh has a more sweeping touch than something like Dumb and Dumber... even though that's also super great.

I'm shocked that no one has mentioned or posted a picture for Clue though. Hasn't anyone else seen it? It's ridiculous! Gah! Anyone who hasn't seen it yet needs to rent it now, and anyone who saw it and inexplicable didn't laugh needs to see it again. Christopher Lloyd needs some sort of award for making Professor Plum and Doc Brown in the same year.

another honorable mention from me

Caine and Kingsley have some effing chemistry, and the movie has a lil bit of everything. But gags and jokes are very clever and funny

this was actually a less shitty movie than I'd imagined. It was somewhat entertaining

The producers (in any form baby)

I saw the original (which was well outside my time mind you) for the first time last year. I was absolutely rolling. Feels good to actually laugh at a Mel Brooks joint. Usually i think his works are over the top in the most simple, ignorant way.

EDIT; lol forgot the rest.

Fear of the Black Hat
Naked Gun
Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back
Pootie Tang (thats right.....i said it. POOTIE TANG)

2. Baseketball
3. Jackass
4. Jackass: Number Two
5. Clerks
I liked Orgazmo the first time I saw it, but I was surprised by how bored I was the second and third times I saw it. Gotta disagree with that one.

Absolutely brilliant film (King of Comedy I mean) that for some reason I don't consider a comedy even though it has very funny elements. Jerry Lewis is awesome in it. I always consider it to be an under-rated gem.

Speaking of Deniro has there been a midnight run mention because that's also in my top 10 or 15.

yes and yes. KOC and MR are both great entertainment. KOC is actually hilarious, I always laugh like a moron at DeNiro and Bernhardt's attempt to kidnap Jerry, expecially when Bob jumps out of the car and loses his gun. LOL

Man, instead of running for president I wish Obama would continue his role from these three classics.
