Activision to demonstrate next-gen rendering tech at GDC

Enough that it would justify going sub-720p (in the devs minds).
I dont see happening with Call of Duty to be honest. I'm pretty sure that they went with sub 720p this generation just to be able to maintain the 60fps framerate. This should be no problem with PS4/Xbox 720. But only time will tell what they will do.

Robo, do you not find "tech demos" to be utterly pointless given they allude to grand promises yet the reality and illusion only perhaps meet nearly at the end of the console's life cycle? Would you not rather see "actual and in-development" games ecompassing these specific technological advancements so that if there is a change, it perhaps may not be as drastic (Mass Effect 1 is a good example)?

Of course I prefer to see games but tech demos at GDC are different than the fanboy hype BS tech demos that would be shown at specific corporate shows. I'm always interested in the tech goals and direction of the industry so GDC stuff is always very cool for me, especially when we're at the cusp of a new gen.

And they struggled to do that.

CoD is probably going to be the reason the majority of next gen consoles get purchased so I hope it looks good!

It should look okay. Resolution will be 1080 (I like how people think devs are going to be putting all the power into the graphics at launch; resolution upgrade of existing assets is so much easier and some new models and your sorted) and 60 fps; but it won't be 'stand out'.

Last gen systems will get the exact same game just sub-HD.
Be more interesting to see what (if any) game WiiU gets.

Probably old, but a preview of what to expect from next gen face stuff. This is his work at Activision.

FINALLY! First real next-gen news! I KNEW GDC wouldn't disappoint!

Damn all the bullshit 'revealz' and 'un-uh-mask-ed' stupid news that is just ru-h-morzez' regurgitation.

UNLEASH THE NEXT-GEN!

I hope it is a bit more.. they did say new rendering right? Hopefully the new lighting looks half as good as those screenshots*.. Really hope the new tech gets used for CoD anyway.

That's pre-rendered surely..

I don't really see the point of having photo realistic characters if they have dead eyes and are still animated like rigid dolls like in most games. Good animation and an expressive face can make up for the lack of polygons and shaders, that doesn't work in the other way. This kind of thing totally turned me off of some popular games, where every single strand of grass is modelled but the characters stand rigidly, arms by their side with a vacant face expression. I'm sure some people will be ecstatic to count the pores on the nose of NPC's in the next skyrim.
