Adam Boyes is Leaving Playstation - Returning to Game Dev

Oh wow, that sucks. Not only did he always bring the megatons at E3, he was one of the most affable 'suits' to ever appear on a presser stage. A hugely charming presence and he put the work in when it came to third-party relations. Big loss for Sony.

Dang, he won't even be at PSX this year now.

He'll be on stage as a dev to announce Booty Infinity in partnership with JV and Iron Galaxy.

Can the recent departures at Sony have anything to do with the recent Scorpio reveal and the consequent suggested Neo retreat at E3? I mean, do these guys have any responsibility over predicting how much power Scorpio would have in comparison to the Neo in advance of the reveal/leaks?
Nailed it. I wouldn't be surprised to see a flood of talent out of Sony in the next year. They are all afraid of Scorpio's uncompressed pixels - the highest quality pixels they have ever seen.

Good for him!

Sony has put a lot of passionate gamers in high positions, and I think it is not unreasonable, after being heavily exposed to the way things work in the industry, someone who loves games would want to try making their own. I think a lot of people on GAF would jump at the chance if they had experience first hand with how the industry/process works, as well as connections already at major studios.

Now if he left to work in a similar position for someone else, especially if not for a significant pay raise/promotion, I'd be concerned as it relates to Sony itself.

Adam was one of my favorite people in Sony!

Good luck Adam in whatever you choose, I will never forget the E3 FF7 Remake and Shenmue 3 announcements! :p

Interesting that he's quitting Sony right at the same time John Vignocchi is finishing up at Disney Interactive.... wonder if they're going to be partners at a new studio.

Will be interested to see who replaces him. big shoes to fill.
Always nice to go out on your own terms. interested to see which studio he works with.

I am suuuper bummed he won't be a presenter at Sony's E3 press conferences anymore, but happy for him for taking the jump.

Best of luck, Adam!

Can't tell if serious.

I'm happy for him, he's had a lot of success so he deserves to do what he wants.
I'm sad for Playstations loss, and mine as well insofar as humor and spectacle go.

Shahid left not too long ago now as well. Boyes is a major loss.

Please don't replace good folks like these with business man in a suit who loves microtransactions 2.0 Sony.

nick suttner, too

i'm getting a litttttle worried about the 3rd party/indie support on ps4

Bummer, seems like he was doing some great stuff at Sony. Looking forward to seeing what he brings us in the future.

Also, Giantbomb put up his old Age of Booty video on their front page. :lol Great stuff.

I never took that people really liked him that much, his jokes always fall as flat.. not that he doesn't seem like a pretty stand up dude though.

I think it's the fact that he seems pretty honest and "aware" of the gaming world compared to the other "suits" at E3

When he tells a bad joke about something that happened to him in Destiny I believe it comes from a real experience of him actually playing the game. If Shawn Layden says something similar I will just assume his PR team wrote that for him

Yeah dude is the real deal and he did a fantastic job at Sony. They'll be fine but he was a good one.

He is actually going to go work on Destiny isnt he?

Big loss for PlayStation but he helped build a much better 3rd party relations team while he was there so they wheels shouldnt fall off immediately. PSX without him is gonna be weird.

PS: Qizibash sounds like a game that would be free on PS+

Damn, that was an unexpected announcement. He was an awesome guy with those E3 announcements, especially the FFVII remake that I've been waiting so long for. I hope he gets a good replacement, although I think that'll be tough.

It seems like there's a bit of an exodus in their dev relations team at PlayStation. Shahid Kamal, Nick Suttner and now Boyes.

It's unfortunate they're leaving. I've heard a lot of devs speak VERY positively about working with all three. Their contributions to PlayStation will be missed.

Obviously happy for all of them to be starting a new chapter in their professional careers, but this is definitely a loss.

I don't think the timing of this with the Johnny V thing is a coincidence. Get ready for the winnebago road trip of a lifetime

He was a Vice President. He did a whole lot more than what people assume he does.

- Oversees Publisher Relations, Developer Relations, Portfolio Strategy, Financial Strategy, Partner Alliance, and 3rd Party Production team, driving them to record revenue and profitability numbers consistently year over year
- Transformed SCEA's approach to publisher & developer outreach, support, and marketing to ensure that we embrace a "partner first" mentality, which resulted in record developer and publisher partnerships
- Built strong strategic relationships with key Publishers including Electronic Arts, Activision,
Ubisoft, Take Two, Warner Bros, Disney Interactive, Square Enix, Capcom, Namco Bandai, Konami, and many more
- Spearheaded industry changing 3rd party partnerships with best-in-class IPs like Destiny, Call of Duty, Batman, Assassin's Creed, Star Wars: Battlefront, Street Fighter, Disney Infinity, Final Fantasy, and many more
- Doubled revenue in less than three years by focusing on content and partnerships that drove both hardware purchase and software attach rate
- Built a reinforced process that added rigorous forecasting, metrics, analytics, and measurable deliverables to executing on successful partnerships

Sounds like he has nothing more to offer any company like Sony in terms of product strategy and operational logistics. Sounds like he would make a great games producer at a fledgling company and grow it into a dynasty like Rockstar.

he's going back to Capcom to straighten that place out.

Marvel vs Capcom 4, Darkstalkers 4 and Power Stone 3 coming soon

;_;

Someone do an edit job of this with Boyes, Trenton and Kutaragi.

latest

I spent too much time on this. I also didn't save this so what you see is the final.
