People are buying phones for 1000 dollars and more, and only using them for things like candy crush and whats app. They also buy new ones in year for the same high price. Yet a console people use 5-6 years for 600 dollars is dark times? Factor in inflation, 600 dollars today isnt comparable when the Ps3 cost that much.
Phones are also a open market. You can buy a really good to great spec phone on the cheap now.
Phones that are $1000 are for morons who want to waste their money. Unless they are using it for their career like in news where it becomes a lav mic and sometimes camera. But for the average person, if your seriously going out and spending $1000 your either not concerned with money or buy into what these companies tell you to make you buy their product at exorbitant prices.
AKA most Apple fans.
These are consoles. Outside of a couple systems that were super expensive because of bad manufacturing decisions like 3DO, Turbo Graphics, and PS3. Most consoles for the longest time were in the 300-400 dollar range.
I mean VR has in essence gotten cheaper because there are more options.
Xbox might be going this route hence a $299 sku.
I think the issue is that if both companies were putting out one sku and pricing it $599 they would be pricing themselves out of a market.
Similar to what is happening to Nividia, and Intel.
