Shit, I just spent an hour and a half on one round. It's pretty easy to stay big for a while once you get there. Maybe just a lot of new people playing today, and I played a bit last night.
Anyone have good strategies? aside from:
1.) if you're being chased by a bigger blob, you can gain significant distance by cornering tightly around the obstacle things.
2.) If you're one of the bigger blobs, generally you want to wander around opportunistically looking for battlefields with a lot of stuff happening and just launch into it.
3.) The time before you can recombine after a split is very confusing. Is it purely time based, or based on the number of things you've absorbed since the split, or based on something else? Pretty sure it's not based on the relative size of your blobs, because you can never recombine right after a split attack. One fun strategy is to wait until you have two blobs that are ready to recombine, and then position them so they're partially inside each other and it looks like one blob is chasing another (you can cover the name of one of the blobs if your name isn't too long). Then, you run around in the direction of the faster, smaller blob (otherwise the blobs would get closer and recombine) looking for a sucker to think they're about to eat two smaller blobs. Then at the last second you recombine and eat them!*
4.) It's hard to tell what determines your speed. Size is the obvious factor, but there are definitely cases where a bigger blob can outpace a smaller enemy blob. I think this happens when you have a lot of speedy smaller blobs sitting around -- they seem to give all of your bigger blobs a speed boost. Or maybe it's a temporary speed boost you get from hitting an obstacle?
5.) (Usually) Play defensively after you've launched a split attack, since you have to wait a while before recombining.
