AKIBA'S TRIP: Undead Undressed now on Steam!

I was wondering, what's there to do in the open world portion?

Or is it all just fighting in the streets? Nothing else to do?

The game has an ongoing storyline with multiple paths and multiple endings based on the decisions you make, as well as a ton of side-quests that you can take via your in-game smartphone, many of which involve a lot more than just fighting in the streets (one has you dressing as a girl in order to out a group of harassers, for example). You CAN just go around fighting randomly in the streets, but doing so will likely up the crime rate of Akihabara and lead to a bunch of thugs wandering around and picking fights with you everywhere you go -- you're better off following the story and doing the side-quests.

- Config files (key configurations, etc.) are now saved in the User folder.
(Ex: C:\Users\XXX\Documents\AKIBA'S TRIP)

- Enabled gameplay on Windows Vista.
These are the necessary steps to make it work:

1. Upgrade to Windows Vista SP2
2. If "MFReadWrite.dll is not found" error displays...
a. Install the Platform Update Supplement for Windows Vista (KB2117917)
https://www.microsoft.com/ja-jp/download/details.aspx?id=209 (32 bit)
https://www.microsoft.com/ja-JP/download/details.aspx?id=14539 (64 bit)
3. If "d3d11.dll is not found" error displays...
Install the Update for Windows Vista (KB971512)
https://www.microsoft.com/ja-jp/download/details.aspx?id=3274

*There are numerous reports of the opening movie not playing under Windows Vista.
For now, we have disabled this movie, progressing straight into gameplay instead.
WeÂ’re still investigating the issue, and will give further updates as we learn more.

- If the DirectX version is found to be incompatible, the following message will display at startup:
"Failed to initialize Direct3D11"

- Playing windowed in 1920x1080 resolution with VSync OFF is crashing the game.
We're still working on a solution to this, and apologize for any inconvenience in the meantime.

- Players using the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card have been reporting framerate
issues. We regret to inform that this graphics card is not fully compatible with the game due to
manufacturing issues. This is not something we can fix, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Tom, you have to explain that last one to me, because I don't understand it.

WTF at that 970 thing. Unless the game is using above 3.5 GB of VRAM, that seems silly.

Anyone that has the game, can you run Rivatuner and report how much Vram it uses?

I can't explain anything, I'm afraid -- I'm just the messenger! All I know is, Acquire was like, "yo, 970 users ain't gonna be gettin' stable framerate, dawg."

Though not in those exact words.

I really hope their next game is being ported to PC by some external studio then. If this is the extend of their capabilities, that would be really in their own best interest.

But seriously, manufacturing issues ?... lol

That was our best approximation of what they told us, which was basically "can't make it work on the 970s; see this link: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/...action-lawsuit-over-graphics-card-ram-issues/ "

Didn't really know how to summarize that (or why that particular issue would cause problems with Akiba's Trip specifically), so I just went with "manufacturing issues" in hopes no one would really question it.

Apparently, though, you did. ;)

If it helps you understand the situation - The GTX 970 was advertised as having 4GB of VRAM. It was discovered that the card does have 4GB of VRAM, but it is divided into 3.5Gb of fast VRAM, and 0.5Gb of slow VRAM.

The games minimum spec is a GTS450, meaning the minimum they expect is at least 1GB, and the 970 has at least 3.5x the required amount of that.

This is why people are calling out bullshit on the justification, because it looks a lot more like an excuse to not properly support the most popular new graphics card in the PC gaming world, than an actual limitation that they can't fix.

I know you don't make these decisions, so no animosity towards you, but this is a huge slap in the face of a large group of PC gamers who already got screwed over by Nvidias misleading advertising. And now the devs are using it as a cheap excuse that kicks customers while they're already down.

Is there any precedent for a game dev saying "fuck it" on getting playable frame rate for GTX 970?

Because while the 970 has essentially the cut down memory of a 980, the Nvidia driver are really good at hiding that. Why else would it perform so good for its price?

All in all, the response seems to say more about the dev then about the hardware. Unless they are doing something really weird in their code. (Weird meaning deviating from industry standards)

wtf at this 970 thing

Odd (or convenient?) timing considering refunds were just released.

Yeah the excuse is bull. Let me guess, they're using all of the available VRAM of a card regardless of the size. Get a refund on Steam and re-buy the game when it's fixed (or don't.)

Someone apparently already found a way to unlock FPS but you have to use a memory editor for now

Nice fix in there to put custom resolutions in the dropdown too!

It was fine to set it to start in fullscreen mode this way.

The memory edit for FPS worked fine too. Just had to apply it while the config window was open, not in-game. (important detail I overlooked the first time)

Hopefully these can be patched in so people don't wind up downloading supposedly pre-edited executables and getting malware.

Nah. The game uses the VRAM it needs (680ish MB of VRAM for me at title screen, 840ish while playing, 970 user). It also keeps 30fps constantly (for what I played, I didn't play the game extensively, just a little less than 2 hours).
It's just a weird statement from the developers which made me scratch my head.

It runs at 30fps flat on my GT630M 2GB VRAM laptop (1280x720, AA on, Vsync on, Steam Overlay on). I even try streaming it using Kinoni and it still runs wonderfully.
C'mon, I know Akiba is filled with PCs. I saw it on the game.

Some people are reporting issues with combat controls (while others say everything is fine), but I doubt that is unfixable.

It was ok at 60, but at 120 almost every attempt to attack is trying to do a grab instead. For those button holds, it looks like it's going by the frame count instead of time. (this is using a controller)

So basically it's limited to 30 FPS for no reason at all? Why?

Vita parity clause! *shakes fist*

Sounds somewhat similar to what happens with Killer is Dead if you unlock the framerate. Button mash becomes practically impossible unless you also do some changes to the input ini.

Just gimme dat 60 FPS fix/mod so I can fully enjoy this thing dangit!

- Start the game, leave the config screen open
- Start Cheat Engine, choose process, point it at the AkibaUU.exe (not the config one)
- Change search type to byte, search for 30 (decimal value, not hex)
- Look for the address mentioned in the link for your operating system
Windows 8: 0018FDFC
Windows 7: 0018FE04
- Double-click that address to get it to show up on the bottom
- On the bottom, double-click the 30 and change it to 60.
- Save your file in Cheat Engine so you can just load it next time
- Finish launching the game

I seem to have missed your post, thanks for the info I'll test it out later today thanks =D

I love how the stripping animations change based on an item you wear. Also getting into a big brawl, weakening everyone and then going Strip-fu mode is really pumping.
For some reasons, I don't like most of the weapons (fighting style) I've used, though using the water pistols seems to fit me well enough.

Has this game stabilized much or have the causes for crashes at least been found out? I really do want to play but it always crashed within an hour or less, often when I tried to save.
