Alan Wake PC recoups costs in 2 days

I held back but damn if it wasn't a great port that exceeds the console version. Will buy when it's on sale but happy for Remedy on this.

Great.

I don't quite understand if MS had to give Remedy the ok to do a pc version, why then didn't MS publish it.
Maybe American Nightmare won't be self-published on pc now?

Question, how playable would the game be with mouse and keyboard? I have no controller for my pc and have an interest in this game.

MS probably owned the exclusive publishing rights for 2 years, and told Remedy they were not interested in making a PC port because they wanted the game to be an Xbox 360 timed-exclusive to boost Xbox 360 marketing and sales.

At the end of that window, Remedy made their own PC port and put it on Steam for $30. They made their money back, so the decision is justified now for Remedy.

I'm happy for them and I hope we will see more of Alan on PC soon.

I don't double dip often, but just had to when I could get the game for only $20.

It seems Microsoft still own publishing rights to the Alan Wake IP, as Remedy had to "nag" Microsoft to get the green light for the PC version. The IP showing up on the PC - now and apparently into the future - and Remedy being able to self-publish is more an olive branch than a direct result of expired contractual legalities.

2 days huh?

Well honestly Remedy, how about you had fixed some of the shamefully low resolution textures that can still be found in the PC version and then maybe you would still recuperate after, say, 3 days.......

Its so annoying lining up a good screenshot and then having some 256x256 fence texture look like something out of Doom......

Does anyone think Microsoft may acquire Remedy if AW:AN succeeds?
I believe it's a high priority fo Remedy to stay independent. They went through a lot of trouble to get all the rights for Alan Wake property so they could use it even without Microsoft's involvement.

Between this and Skyrim, I don't know how developers can ignore/refuse to port games to the PC.

Capcom please bring Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to the PC. Thanks!

Good to hear - enjoyed the game much more on PC. KB/M, beautiful visuals, etc. Just imagining if this game went all out like Deadly Premonition really kills me, though...

Really nice to see this happen though.

The Green Man Gaming deal was too good to pass up I'm sure the ability to get the Collector's Edition for $23 on day one helped sales greatly.

Now I just need to find the time to play it.

You're welcome Remedy. Now don't ever question releasing another one of your games simultaneously on pc.

They didn't. The article has a factual inaccuracy, as it was Microsoft who made the comment about Alan Wake not being a good PC game due to the "comfy couch" (the source the author cites for Remedy's comment in fact was even made by a MS employee...).Remedy in fact took a shot at Microsoft for making a statement in the PC version of Alan Wake, downplaying MS' original justification for canning the PC version of the game.

MS' orginal statement citing the comfy couch as the reason Alan Wake was canceled on PC:

Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen

Am I the only one who disliked the game? Mediocre gameplay, terrible storytelling, clichéd characters, bloated... And certainly not scary or tense. It's the gaming equivalent of a bad Stephen King novel. Couldn't care less about the future of the franchise, to be honest.

I can't imagine porting costs were the reason it wasn't on PC until now. Recouping that (likely small) cost seems like an empty victory.

It's obvious that the reason it was 360 exclusive was because Microsoft wanted it as an exclusive to help their image and sales.
