By far the most incompetent team I've ever seen on this show. John and his "I'm detail oriented, anal retentive, etc." as a reason why he was just going to rock that fruity top challenge was just laughable. Especially after he failed it so spectacularly. Not using the express pass after that point was definitely one of the stupidest decisions ever from a team.

Watching him squirm at the end and go off about "not dwelling on the past" and "no regrets" was cringe inducing.

"Oy Vey" indeed. :p

That was amazing to watch. The guy seriously cracked. He lost his ability to make rational choices. I've never seen someone lose it so completely on this show. And the girl just sat by and watched.

This season has delivered so far, that's for sure.

His elimination was one of the most glorious flameouts for absolutely no reason in reality TV history... and Phil's reaction was just priceless.

I still can't believe that actually happened. John seemed like he was competing on a different race. It was hilarious when they began to do the 'detour' at some random guy's house. But it was bizarre that he didn't use the express pass when he was failing to complete the road block before the other team.

Looking back on this leg, it was pretty terrible. The roadblock was lol, the detours were easy and the U-turn was pointless.

Eh, at least Dave and Conner basically cashed out so at least the show will stop talking about them.

Has this season really been good? I just sort of skipped last season because it was boring to me at the start.

It's been ok. Great scenery, good to bad tasks, the teams are ok at this point.

The best part of the season so far was watching the slow meltdown of one half of a team that led to their elimination.

In a podcast interview, they thought there was a team behind them. But yeah, turned out to be such a fatal mistake.

Also, after Bora Bora, there hasn't been all that much travel porn... and if the trailer is anything to go by, we're not long for Vietnam either.

That sounds like a lame excuse if you ask me. Didn't Wyona told them that they were the only other ones left? I think the boy thought he was being smart and gambled for a non elemination leg, hoping to make up time by using the express pass next leg.
Well, either way it is stupid.

As much as I admired Dave and Connor for winning to legs after the injury, the whole "we are fighters and we never gave up because we beat cancer", got on my nerves, so I'm glad there gone. Happy to see team taxidermy fight another day.

I really hope Dave and Connor aren't invited back but their story just screams bring me back. I literally cannot stand the dad. Every time he's on screen I have to roll my eyes at him. The only teams I enjoy are Pamela and Winnie so far. Maybe Meghan and Joey but they get annoying easily. We don't have any of those lovable teams this season.

Really hope we go back to the tropical locations in future seasons. I was getting as tired of India as I was Samoa from Survivor.

Really liked Max's John imitation and that shitty laugh when he heard what happened to those two.

Glad to see the Dad & Son team go, they were hogging all the camera time so hopefully the edit is a bit more balanced from now on.

Oh you have got to be fucking kidding me with that apology at the beginning. Jesus christ this country is filled with whiny brats.

It was the song about DAMN COMMIES KILL EM ALL
Yeah, while watching last week I was thinking; 'That song is not going to go down well with a lot of people.'

Of course I forgot all about that which is why I wanted to check this thread to see if anyone knew what all the fuss was about with that apology. I thought it might be the Bomber memorial since it mentioned vets.

Edit: Ah, according to the link above it was partly because of the memorial as well.

Not surprised that they did the whole apology thing at the start. Not even sure why they are watching this show if they don't care about other cultures apparently.

Episode was pretty odd, not even counting that non-elimination. The roadblock was pretty boring, and the detour was pretty one-sided as well.

I never knew a thread for TAR existed. lol

I'm actually liking this season so far - it's leagues better than the previous. I'm liking all teams except Team YouTube and Chuck/Wynona. Pam/Winnie and Max/Katie are my faves though.

Sucks about the communist song apology, I agree with dakkumauji though: If you can't appreciate a culture vastly different than yours, then why watch a show about different cultures?

I can totally understand B-52 though, but everyone's anger seems to be directed at the Commie song.

And TAR goes back to being fucking boring.

I know it's not entirely their fault, but two non-elimination legs in a row? Bleh.

Getting saved by a non-elimination leg isn't the pretties thing in the world but at least it happened to my favorites. They really should have just changed challenges when everyone else left, try and beat them there instead of stubbornly try and make a fire. Choosing the easier one made a huge difference this time around, Pam and Winnie jumped to 2nd place from last(?) and seemed to breeze through that while everyone except the hockeyplayers struggled with fire.

That was a really boring episode. I didn't catch the whole apology part. Either it wasn't in the version on their website or I missed it. After reading the article above I have to say that I find it somewhat stupid though. The part with the song was in a museum for history. it is not like children sing this in schools at the moment. I think to take offensive in something like that is more than a little ignorant. About the B-52, well it is a memorial of the war. They react as if they said,"Look here is where all those vietnamese people go to mock the american soldiers."
Furthermore I hate it when a nations that participated in a war only talk about THEIR victims. Yes, alot of Americans died in that war, so did a lot of Vietnamese. Don't act like one side was the sole victim here.

They are my least favorite team, they are the villians of the show but I guess they make it more interesting. And that last line at the end, lol.

I guess I wasn't paying attention but how did Bates and Anthony finish that fast? The skiing one allowed you to bypass the detour?

Anyone else ever feel Ike this show makes up rules on the fly? The producers definitely play a role with this show, especially with the non-elimination rounds.

Wouldn't surprise me. Kind of figured with tonights they could have damaged the cheese but who knows.

there are 3 undetermined non elimination legs. the producers definitely make legs non-elim when they feel keeping a team in helps the show. i remember one season where they kept holding off and holding off using 2 of them, and then they used both in a row to save popular teams.

Props to Chuck for lasting that long carrying dead weight.

I used to like team taxedermy, but this episode Chuck behaved like an utter ass. He knew before he went on the race that his wife wouldn't be as strong as the rest on the more physical tasks and I think considering everything she gave her best and tried really hard. The way he treated her on that leg was mean and unfair and IIRC it was his idea to just roll the cheeses down the hill. If it hadn't been for that they might actually still be in the race, since team youtube messed up on the way to the pit stop.

the guy was carrying both sleds and was still trying to push his wife up the mountain with his head! Chuck has been extremely patient and encouraging all season despite his wife pretty much being dead weight on each leg. I don't blame him one bit for trying to push her to do even more. Especially considering how close they came to pulling it out.

You're wrong, there are 3 PREDETERMINED non-elimination legs. And they have saved crappy teams more often than popular ones. They tend to happen around the same time every season, except for a few times they have changed it up (such as having the first leg be non-elim). Remember, they have to have a speed bump ready the next leg, unless you are so conspiracy theory that you think Phil is all like "Charlie! Make up some dumb speed bump for France! Yeah I know it's short notice, but the hockey bros came in last! Something easy like eat a croissant!" lol

You could just have a speed bump set up for every single leg just in case. Anyway, just because they say predetermined doesn't mean they are. Teams the producers think the audience will root for get disproportionately saved, no question.

Can anyone think of a more useless contestant than Wynona in recent memory? I was ecstatic to see that waste of space team get eliminated.

Yes, Chuck wasn't always the nicest guy..but she was acting as though she had never seen the show before and had just been randomly plucked from a crowd to appear on it. She had months to prepare for this, to run on a treadmill or do basic weight training. No matter how busy she is as a stay at home mom, she could have taken an hour a day and done something, so that she wasn't miserable and dead weight to her partner for the entire race.

She never seemed to have fun. (ok, that one time when she was sedentary on the speedboat in Africa..) She never stopped complaining about -every-single-physical activity that she had to suffer through. Watching (and listening to) her walk up a mildly steep hill was like watching other teams complete a grueling challenge.

I'm questioning it. Just because you say that doesn't make it true. One of the best seasons, season 5, had a long dramatic pause when charla and mirna finished last (because they were popular), and then phil eliminated them. And the non-elim was the next leg and saved stupid twins kami and karli. And noone cared. The non-elim saved Eric and Danielle in All-Stars. Yaaaaaaaaaaay *rolleyes* The Cowboys are one of the most popular teams ever, why didn't Phil pull a non-elim out of his ass for them in Unfinished Business? It seems predetermined to me.

Also, Josh and Brent last season were hardly popular lol.

AND to further disprove your conspiracy theory, in the first few seasons the language of the clue let the teams know a non-elim was coming, because it said "may be eliminated" instead of "will". They changed this in later seasons so it always says "may". The teams would lazily saunter to the pit stop at times, such as when the eventual season 2 winners just walked to the mat, not caring if they were last even though they were with another team because the non-elim was predetermined. From a recap: "Tara interviews that the other clues they've gotten for the pit stops have said that the last team to arrive would be eliminated, and this one didn't, so she was pretty sure it wasn't an elimination leg. As such, she decided that they could just saunter up and let Boston get to the mat first, because Boston had basically waited for them all day. Instead, Wil steps up and onto the mat ahead of Boston, apparently because Wil is under the impression that this is some kind of race."

It was ok. Nice to see driving around a big city since that did shake things up a little. The tasks were ok, I guess.

I am glad that Mona and Beth were saved this week though.

Yeah, a decent episode. Improvement over the train-centered leg they had last time, leaves some room for navigation at least. I'm not really a fan of Beth and Mona, and it's a bit hard to be since they don't seem to get any airtime, but I don't mind seeing them get saved. No talk about the missing bag from Phil, apparently the guy has his passport still and can get stuff from his partner.

I liked the fact that were no equalizers in this leg. When they appear excessively it drains all my excitement for the leg like last week. Thankfully there were none this time and I'm kind of glad that Mona and Beth are still here but I'm sad to see that the annoying YouTube team continues to race.

Anyone spot the obvious '6 of everything' tendency during all of the challenges last night?
6 Ford Focuses in the lot, 6 clues in the box... made it so very obvious this was a non-elimination leg as it gave the impression they'd intended on having one extra team for that leg to begin with.

Damn, good spot. I didn't notice that but I'm glad I didn't because it would have ruined the episode for me.

I don't mind alliances but not exactly a big fan of them ganging up on other teams.

The episode was mostly yay Scotland!, but good job on Mona/Beth and Joey/Megan for getting through the wine barrel rolling challenge.
