America not getting regular size N3DS, confirmed.

I was hyped about getting myself the regular new 3DS for my birthday in Feburary, thanks for ruining that Nintendo. At least I'll have my limited edition Majoras Mask 3D to help with the pain...
 
Yeah, side by side on the shelves, I'd picture most consumers in North America opting for the XL. I see the strategy behind going for just the one model.

And I mean, if the sales data backs it up (regarding OG sales falling off a cliff when the XL was released) then it's a no brainer. America wants bigger.

I'm sorry to all those disappointed on GAF.
 
Can you sue for them not including the charger?

I can understand if it charged via a standard USB, or hell, knowing Nintendo even FireWire, but its a proprietary port.

There is also only a rechargeable battery, so you can't swap it out like in the old days with AA's.

When it comes to hardware Nintendo have upped their penny-pinching in recent years, they've been selling AC adapters separately for some time in the UK. AC adapters, Club Nintendo inserts, manuals, they are trying to cut costs everywhere when it comes to packaged goods.
 
This is hilarious. I mean awful for you Americans, but so ridiculous it's farcical from an outside perspective.

This is why we need an end to region locking though. So fucked up.
 
After thinking, I may not be getting the XL even in LE form.

I may import a regular size down the road for use with gateway though.
 
It would have been nice to have faceplates on the XL as well so this wouldn't be as much of an issue, but I think they made the right choice in only giving us the New XL. The smaller 3DS models are basically a thing of the past, but I'm not surprised with the outrage in here at all--having options is nice.

Majora's or MH4 New 3DS... hmmm.

EDIT: Oh, wow, so it's just NA that's not getting both, huh? Lame.
 
I just read this and I am seriously pissed at NoA. These assholes have fucked me too many times for me to count when it comes to gaming.
 
Only selling the XL model coupled with the $199 price tag and no AC adapter means I'll sit this one out.

I can deal with a slightly slower home screen and just play games on my old system.

They just didn't sell me on the value of the DSi like upgrade for that price tag in 2015.

Getting the Black N3DS XL for sure.
The only thing that bothers me is them not including an AC adapter, I don't know how Nintendo gets away with that in Japan and Europe because it even seems like that should be illegal but whatever, I don't think that's gonna go well in the US. I have 2 adapters anyway, from my DSi and another one from my (lost) 3DS XL.
 
I don't want to pay $200 for a huge XL, same reason I don't want a phablet. No AC adapter is just salt in the wound. Lost a sale here, I'll still with my OG Aqua Blue and CPP.

Yeah, I'm going to seriously consider doing this. I don't really know the process, but I don't really have any interest in another XL. Screw region locking.
 
I'm assuming the regular 3DS was selling a lot worse then the XL, still blows they won't bring it over for those who wanted the n3DS :/
 
Stores would be furious if they had to give up floor space for face plates when only the most hardcore of fans will buy them. Handheld consoles are not like phones over here and people don't normally spend extra to customize the outside.
 
Well, I guess that makes my decision easier; no N3DS for me. I really wanted the Super Fami colored system with the face plates.

Although a small part of me is debating getting the Majora's Mask system and selling my Link Between Worlds XL.
 
I have a feeling the majority of people in this thread saying they won't buy one will eventually make the purchase in the future -_-.

shocked to see so many people happy or confused about less options.

i need a portable system to be.... portable.

i dont see myself buying monhun or c. steam now. my regular xl is gonna just collect dust, what a shame.
 
The worst part about this is they just didn't mention it at all. I don't want to jump in on an XL and then a month later they have some story about "supply chain constraints" and then drop the smaller size one on us. I was hyped for the faceplates and now I'm not sure I want to upgrade until I definitively hear the smaller N3DS isn't coming to NA
 
Damn NOA doesn't have any faith in a colourful, fun looking system. It seems so easy to market and sell in an environment dominated by sleek and plain.
 
Chris Kohler has a write up about this.

He suggests that the reasons are that they want to keep it to 2 total SKUs (2DS and N3DSXL, they killed the small 3DS here ages ago), the fact that the XL is outselling the small 2:1 in Japan, and that Nintendo had problems securing shelf space in major retailers for Amiibos, and would have even more issues getting space for Faceplates.

The ancient OG 3DS shouldn't have been used as an indicator of how the N3DS would have performed. Although I assume that's what they did.
 
I love how before the direct people were like:

"Nintendo isn't going to only release the XL, what are you crazy?"

And now they're like:
"What did you expect? Duh, OBVIOUSLY it would be this way"

And the idea of the regular 3DS being this niche product when it's available everywhere else.

Gah! Now I remember why I sold my 3DS to begin with. This freaking company....
 
- No regular n3DS.
- Horrible color schemes for the n3DS XL (seriously, maroon?).
- No power adapter included.
 
It's amazing how many sales they are losing just in this thread. What an incompetent non consumer friendly branch NoA is.

If the released a New2DS I could understand this, but why the fuck would anyone want to buy a 2DS at this point when it lacks a c-stick and is less powerful than the n3DS and in the future won't run all 3DS games?

It's so fucking stupid. But that's Nintendo's motto now.
