I'm holding out for a wooden variant. There will be wood!
Buy a Sony PVM and RGB mod your NES, it'll cost you less, look better, and be a great set up for other old hardware.
Here it is in its full glory.

We also put up a very lengthy look back at the "Analogue NT Saga" that people might enjoy reading. This is basically the launch of yet another "Retro gaming blog" but I think we can put up some cool stuff when time permits.

But the arcade chips got the job done, and once I got my first modded NES, a top-loader sloppily glued together by a Canadian fellow, I would never go back to composite video, even if the mod resulted in the colors looking weird.

Interesting that the composite out of the Analogue NT looks cleaner than that of a stock NES. There is far less dot crawl.
Ask and you shall receive. I don't have much content recorded using SCART, though, but here's the Mario 3 title screen.Surprised that you didn't post any images of the over-brightness issues, I would want to see an off-screen comparison.
Nice video though.
SCART (NES Palette)
SCART (RGB Palette) - Notice how it's SO blown out here that the bushes are missing color detail
Component (NES Palette)
If you mod your system the original composite outs no longer work so you need to wire up an alternative. I'd imagine it would look similar to the NT using Tim's board.Yeah that is interesting. Is the same true for a vanilla NES with the viletim RGB installed? Not that it matters, lol.

Yikes, thats terrible! Are you getting the same results with the breakout BNC cables?
About the cartridge shaving, every NES/Famicom cartridge is bound to have slight variances in their size due to the plastics used and the nature of the manufacturing process in the 80's.
However, you'd think analogue would've accounted for this.
If it gives me any issues I'll just file down the aluminum so it has a rounded edge.
Easy fix.
Well, one of the main issues is that the aluminum cartridge slot can scratch cartridge plastic. For collectors, this is a big deal. Not sure to what extent it's and issue yet, though, but it's something to consider.
I'm skeptical about this.Analogue's stance: "there were a handful cables that went out with issues: it is not a system issue, but a cable issue. Anyone who is experience an issue with their SCART cable, please contact us directly for a replacement. In regards to cartridge damage: we have never experienced any issues / heard from customers with any issue"
So hopefully that cable issue is small and isolated. Picture quality looks nice. I'm curious to learn more about the fitment with the cart slot, though. If it shaved any of my carts I'd be a bit peeved.
It happened to our system with several carts. Some were just basic scratches while one of them actually had a piece shaved off. Yet others came away unscathed. For the moment, I suggest being very cautious when inserting games.Has anyone actually seen it scratch cartridge plastic, or is that just something you were speculating about?
Dem differences, love this comparison!!!Here it is in its full glory.

I ordered my Analogue NT within the first few hours of it going up. Who are all these people that are getting them? Are actual consumers getting them or just blogs?
Did you order the HDMI upgrade?
It's suspected that there is some kind of delay with the HDMI orders.
I contacted them today to try and get an answer.
But to answer your question, it looks like regular consumers have been getting the non-HDMI ones.

Yes, that's because Tim's board improves the composite video out as well.
Tim makes his Composite out from his rgb and his own encoder: it´s obvious when comparing the palettes. I think the board has a composite pass-through, though tbf I think I'll just take it from the original pin when I'll mod mine. I'm not sure I like tim´s composite better: it has less dot crawl but the overal screen is much blurrier. Maybe the artefacts are overemphasised with the xrgb too.
Regarding the palettes, this video shows that tim´s original palette is slightly wrong (he took it from an emulator I reckon), compared to the original composite. The component output however is almost spot on. The HD mod is better than the NESRGB for colour accuracy? It seems so.
Yeah, it's a poor decision on their part.HDMI being an optional add-on is unacceptable with the price. As crazy as the price is, I would have considered one otherwise.
I'll hold out for the HDMI NES mod that is looking extremely impressive and also still keeping tabs on the clone NES Bunny is working on.
That's just with the HDMI out. We could have included scanlines in the video using the XRGB, of course, but I don't think scanlines work well in a video (due to variation in scaling between viewers) and aren't inherent to the analog output from the system.BTW, isn't it possible to add scanlines to this? Or is that just the HDMI out?
No, Tim's palette is absolutely the correct palette.
Yep, good old CRT scanlines, just like I remember them.
Yessiree
Yeah, that's definitely not right. Uneven scanlines are just awful looking.Thats looks off, the scanlines alternate between a thin line and a thick line when they should be even, is that at 1080p?
Yep, good old CRT scanlines, just like I remember them.

They are only available using the HDMI output and it's unclear to what degree they are tweakable. I would hope that it's just a bad setting or capture as that's pretty awful. So, are these the scanlines the Analogue NT adds? Any way to tweak them?
Yep, 80 extra bucks is pretty insane.HDMI being an optional add-on is unacceptable with the price. As crazy as the price is, I would have considered one otherwise.
