What is the point of this. You can emulate all of these systems on literally anything.

Portability in the stylings of a gameboy with really high quality hardware and amazing screen. This is mainly geared towards people that own software across multiple retro portable libraries. It's a niche market, but those people will pay top dollar for this sort of thing. They could have priced this at 300 and it would have sold out instantly.

Please don't be that stereotypical "Why not just buy a Raspberry Pi?" type.

Why buy a Ferrari when a Ford Escort can take you to the same places for less money?

Why go to a fancy restaurant when you can just buy food at a grocery store?

See I can do it too.

The point is because there are many people who like the idea of high quality remakes of classic consoles with some quality of like features and still be able to play their original carts.

A Ferrari and an Escort are two different cars with two different driving experiences. Different restaurants serve different food.

Emulation of these systems is so advanced at this point that it's indistinguishable to playing off carts. There's no point

Yes there is a point, there is a group of people that want to use their original software on a modern device of high quality.

IMHO, the Analogue Pocket is truly the best way to play GB/GBC games on the go.

There are other ways to play GB/GBC on the go, but the Pocket is among the best devices out there for that, plus it does so much more now.

I finally got my stupid Analogue Pocket after a year long wait. Is it worth it? I am not sure I would buy one today, but I have it now so I might as well use it. The screen is amazing, this is undoubtedly the best way to play these old games. I was trying to play some old games on my original GBC and well the screen just doesn’t cut it anymore. The Pocket really does look super impressive, including the GBA which I was curious about because it’s letterboxed (but it turns out it is still larger than the original hardware screen). The colors pop like crazy, I really cannot overstate how good it looks. I have a modded GBA and this just blows it away. The system is also very comfortable to hold and the buttons feel great. Despite the fact that it is apparently very finicky with EverDrives both my GBC and GBA ones work perfectly.

I have not messed with the openFPGA stuff which apparently gives you access to many more platforms. But even without that it’s a cool device albeit one that you can’t really get and is probably way too expensive for most people.

I ordered one a few days ago. Instead of upgrading my GPU this year, I started going more retro. I got a Super NT as well and Everdrives for both (GBA Mini and FX PakPro). I even rediscovered my Virtual Boy recently and was thinking about picking up a HyperFlash32. But after looking at the VB library again, I just don't think it'd be worth it.

Well I am sure you will enjoy it, all their stuff works as advertised as are great ways to play old games. As for VB, well how much do you need to play Nestor's Funky Bowling on original hardware?

I'm glad to hear that. Now it's just a waiting game for the Pocket and Super NT to get here. The 1440p screen of the Pocket just looked too good to pass up.

Haha, I actually have Nester's Funky Bowling, Mario Tennis, and Teleroboxer. I just can't find my copies of Wario Land and Mario Clash. Might look into getting repros, but those aren't exactly cheap, either. I was honestly shocked the VB still worked after all these years.

I really like mine a lot. It’s a portable mister at this point and I look forward to (hopefully) adding the screen emulation to fpga. That is truly impressive stuff. I play Tetris, Mario golf and Mario tennis using the those original display modes and it’s really cool.

What time is it?
I keep forgetting my units arrived a few months back. I really need to fiddle with one of them over the holidays.

Are you familiar with FPGAs at least?

If you want that much accuracy in emulation, you'll need a really fast PC.

Think I am going to pull the trigger and order a white unit with a Game Gear converter. Anyone try any multiplayer with an og style Gameboy or advance ? This thing looks pretty damn sweet.

Any chance it arrives before summer ? Just says 2023 for an estimate. Wonder if they are catching up on demand like the Steam Deck ?

My Pocket finally shipped a few days ago. And now it's sitting in the warehouse of some scammy customs clearance local company in Greece. They are asking 185€ to clear a package that costs about the same. FFS. It's not so much the money, I can afford it. But it's the principle. I absolutely loath getting scammed. I'll have to send it back and hopefully I'll get a refund.

Are the converters still worthwhile since FPGA cores can be added now? I got a an Everdrive GBA Mini while waiting for mine, but at this point I wonder if it was unnecessary.

Where are you located ? Greece is in the EU. It seems that they ship from the USA, so it was a given you would have to pay taxes.

Some places are very expensive to ship to from the USA

Analogue currently ships exclusively from the USA

Customs, Taxes, VAT

Please note that you will be responsible to pay any duties and customs generated in the course of delivering your package. These are completely in the hands of the customs authorities of your home country and rates and fees are not available for us to quote or estimate. Check with your local customs and government authorities for more information on how to import goods into your country.

They will definitely not refund because you had taxes. I don't see any scam here, unless this page I am referring too did not exist when you ordered, of course.

A scam would be, for example, when the shipping place is undisclosed, which happened in the past with these assholes at Terraonion who did not disclose that they were shipping from Andorra at the time of pre-order. Which lead to absurd delays and ridiculous taxes even for people inside EU.

From the page you linked:
You may return unopened and unused products within 30 days from the date your order was delivered. If you remove the shrink wrap from your product, it is not eligible for return. All returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee and the buyer must provide the return shipping label. Contact support@analogue.co directly before return shipping.

200$ to clear the customs for a single Pocket is pretty scammy in my book. I'm not angry with Analogue, I'm angry with this local company which just pulled a number out of their ass.

To return it, you have to accept it (pay the tax), pay for the return fee and pay 15% to Analogue. This is what I get from what you linked.

If you refuse to pay the tax, there is no guarantee that it will go back to Analogue. And if it does, I think that they will have to pay for the return upon reception. Which means that in the end, they will not refund everything as they will keep the return fee + 15% fee they take for restock.

FedEx shipped it to Greece and then left it at this local customs clearance company at the airport. Can't I just pay FedEx and ask them to take it back to the sender without paying customs?

No idea what those are , I just have a bunch of Gameboy and Gamegear carts and this seemed simple plus the reviews are mostly good.

Now I just have to play the waiting game...

It's worth it IMO, especially now since recently it's also possible to play SNES and lots of other systems on it too.

You're correct. Driving a Ferrari is a significantly worse driving experience for most commuting. Especially in heavy traffic or on long road trips.

I was a bit on the fence getting a Pocket and a dock, but a friend finally got his a week ago and I had the chance to play it. He says it’s an LCD screen, but it looks on par with my OLED Switch. It took him over a year to get it, and according to the website they are currently shipping in 2023…so I could conceivably get it before Christmas/New Years which would be acceptable.

The problem Is, I have that Covid bonus coming next month burning a hole in my pocket. 🤔

Wish I hadn't seen this thread... I'd forgotten all about this thing, but now it's back in my mind and I might make a foolish purchase. I already have loads of Game Boys, I rarely touch them and I don't need this thing. But then I sold one recently for a lot more than the Pocket is going for, so it's basically free, right?

Do it. One of the best purchases I've made in recent years. It's fantastic.

So when/where is this $199? Anywhere outside of the US it's out of stock or price inflated. After moving from original HW to getting mister (absolutely incredible btw), I would love to get one of these for my GB/C/A games.

Grrrrrah! Must... resist... There are some on eBay for probably around the same price I'd have to pay with shipping, taxes and handling fees to the UK, plus the benefit of no unspecified waiting time.

Hmm okay , seems normal than, for them to be slow 😂
yea, i waited over a year for mine, and what is annoying is I got a "ready to ship" email and then had to wait like another 6-8 weeks until it actually shipped.

Don't pre-order from Limited Run Games then, I heard they took almost 1.5 years to ship the Scott Pilgrim collector's edition. :messenger_winking_tongue:
I preordered Radiant Silvergun Switch last november and no sign of it.

Yeah. I think I got that ordered too. Finally, getting a hard copy of that game. They take forever.

Got one! Swallowed the cost for jumping the queue, because if I had to face another Steam Deck-stlye wait I'd probably come to my senses and cancel the order.

Looks like a lovely bit of kit but it demands a firmware update straight out of the box and I don't have a spare micro SD card. You'd have thought they could at least provide that if it's an essential item. To the shops!

It's BEAUTIFUL. If I didn't have a PS Vita that was modded I'd get it myself. I have the Analogue Duo reserved. I've been very happy with the NT Mini Noir, Mega SG and Super NT.

So I took the Analogue Pocket away with me on holiday last week with a handful of Game Boy carts. I had maybe an hour or two to read up on how to get the FPGA stuff working and set up the SD card, and I followed a guide without really expecting it to work first time.

Amazingly, it all worked perfectly. It's the simplest retro gaming device I've ever experienced. Now that I've seen how good it is with things like Neo Geo games I kind of wish it was compatible with normal USB docks for video output. Still, what a fantastic little machine.

If I have the Pocket and the dock, is there any reason to get a MISTER?
I would imagine the Mister is a fair bit more powerful, given that it's actively cooled. The performance on Pocket is pretty sensational though, at least for the kind of early 90s stuff I've been trying. It won't do 3D systems. I've been really impressed with how easy the whole thing is, so if you'd rather play on a monitor then Mister would be the way to go for more versatility.
