Well, it doesn't really matter which one if both means that the consumers don't have it yet.Paznos said:Are you sure it was Motorola and not Verizon? they do their own testing and such before the OTA is released.
We can't say we've heard of Augen before, but the company certainly sparked our interest (and that of Kmart circular readers) this weekend with its $149.99 7-inch Android tablet. Oh yes, you heard right shoppers -- the small Florida-based shop is bringing an Android 2.1 tablet with WiFi, 2GB of storage and 256MB of RAM to a store near you for just 150 buckaroos. And according to an Augen spokesperson, it will have access to the Android "Market App Store." That sounds pretty awesome for the pricetag, but we -- along with a number of readers we've heard from -- haven't been able to locate the 7-inch tablet at any Kmart retail location just yet. (Yes, we even spent a lovely ten minutes on hold with our local store while they checked the inventory.) We're told by Augen that the device should be hitting shelves later this week, though the company was unsure it would ever land on Kmart's online store. In addition to the 7-inch tablet, Augen has also released its $89 TheBook e-reader with a similar 7-inch LCD. It doesn't run Android, but you can check out an in-depth look at its Linux OS in The eReader's video review after the break. We'll be keeping an ear to the ground on the availability of the tablet and will be trying to get one in our hands to confirm the preloaded Market, but let us know in the comments if you've had any luck yourselves.
Sales of Google-based Android handsets have rocketed by more than 300 per cent from the first three months of 2010 to the second quarter of the year, more than tripling the size of their share of the UK mobile contract market.
Data compiled by market analysts GfK showed that around one in every eight handset sold in the UK between April and June 2010 on a contract is Android powered compared to one in 33 on average between January and March.
Mobiles with "advanced" operating systems - which we shall call smartphones - now represent 73.5 per cent of the market while the feature phone's share of the mobile contract market fell to less than 28 per cent.
One of the main reasons why Android is in demand has to do with the release of some very high profile Android smartphones like the Sony Ericsson X10 or the HTC Desire, coupled with the increasing number of Android handsets released on the market and the fact that the price of Android handsets, like the ZTE Racer, has fallen under £100 or around £13 per month on contracts.
As a whole, feature phones are now mostly limited to the lowest rung of the market where pricing, rather than features, is most important. Expect the share of the feature phones' market to shrink significantly as the cost of smartphones makes it economically viable to sell £10 monthly contracts.

Specs are a bit light, but 150 bucks for a tablet is ridonk, maybe the first of many in it's class/price range?

Still, Market access... hrm...
There's no telling when Gingerbread will actually roll out, and considering there are numerous phones that have yet to see Froyo, it's even harder to know if Q4 phones will be rocking Gingerbread, so I'd say you might as well jump in if you like the captivate.Freyjadour said:So after far too much time reading reviews and forums about the Samsung Captivate, I think I may jump on this phone. Despite not being 4.3, the hardware is pretty damn impressive.
My only concern is Gingerbread being just around the corner and a whole new line of amazing phones come with it. Should I wait on these or jump on the Captivate?
My guess is that the Nexus One will get Gingerbread sometime this fall/winter and the other phones will start to see it early next year.Patriots7 said:There's no telling when Gingerbread will actually roll out, and considering there are numerous phones that have yet to see Froyo, it's even harder to know if Q4 phones will be rocking Gingerbread, so I'd say you might as well jump in if you like the captivate.
LivetoFollow said:If you are worried about updates, find a phone that has a thriving development presence. That is what I look for after specs. I settled on the Samsung Vibrant after learning how easy gaining root access was and upon learning that CM6 was being developed for it.
As long as their is a development community, updates should be fine. That is putting a lot of faith in people you don't know, but you know what, I have more faith in these online strangers than companies i've known my whole life.
Not to mention its ridiculously easy to root. Did mine today just for the heck of it.Stat Flow said:This is so true. If you have a flagship carrier device you're fine. Nexus One - of course. Galaxy S line is also fine since its getting Samsung's biggest Android push behind it and it's on all carriers.

I'm looking for a HTC, but not with the 1 year old Snapdragon processor. Any hints/leaks/specs about the Q4 phones of 2010?

Gotta feeling this will have a sizeable modding community behind it, so even if Samsung abandon it after froyo it'll still see future updates.

In comparion to the Evo, it's noticeably less responsive but still extremely useable. Screen is very nice for the size. Overall a great value for a user who wants the apps and ease of use of Android but doesn't want the titan screen of the Evo.
Crazyorloco said:Cool, I told my girlfriend to check that phone out -I told her first to go for the Evo, but it's still hard to find!
The intercept looks like it has a great keyboard, and I'm glad it runs android 2.1.
I'm using the Samsung Vibrant on tmobile and I love it. No major issues so far. I'm addicted to the air control game on the marketplace. Seriously addicted.
Agent Icebeezy said:Just checking in. I am in love with my Samsung Captivate. I was a Blackberry faithful before this phone and even then, I only used it for productivity. I've had this phone since Friday and I'm constantly in it doing something. I think all the apps I've gotten from the market place has something to do with it. I just had to make sure it could run Documents to Go as that was a neccessity, but everything else has been amazing to say the least.
Freyjadour said:Anyone done an early upgrade to a Captivate? I really don't want to be stuck with this 3GS until August of 2011.
In store? Looks like a long weekend of driving around to AT&T stores if so.DrFunk said:Strangely enough, ATT let me get a Captivate for $199 even though I upgraded to an iPhone 4 for 199 as well.
YMMV

Hm, gonna have to make a call. I wasn't getting much in the way of options on that route beyond "no contract" pricing.DrFunk said:Nope. Through the website. Decided to give it a shot, and it went through.

In an unprecedented move for carriers with Android phones, Verizon appears poised to update their entire lineup of high-end Droid phones to Android 2.2 within the next couple of weeks. History tells us that the carriers, handset makers, and Google have been somewhat uncoordinated with previous firmware upgrades, but Verizon has the chance to change that perception by releasing the latest version of Android on four handsets at the same time.
Ive seen a half-dozen dates thrown around on various sites, but I believe the trigger will occur around the time of an upcoming press conference for Adobe. As many of you know, the upcoming Flash 10.1 requires Android 2.2, so it makes sense for Adobe and Google to tie the events together. Flash 10.1 is currently in Beta 3, but Adobe has an Android related event planned for August 16th and we believe the final version will be released that day.

Who am I kidding. As a Telus subscriber looking to switch for Android phones, I really can't tell who to go with. I just want a great phone, but none of our providers really carry any good ones that I can see as of right now.
EDIT: Rogers gets the Galaxy S in September.

My guess is Metric.
soultron said:Hollerado. Do it, Rogers.
EDIT: I feel your pain, Kinitari. I keep waiting for something good to happen to us with a phone like the Galaxy S, then America gets something like the Droid X and then I want to sit and wait it out even longer for the better phone to arrive here.
Not nearly as well known as Metric, but I think there more of a fun band to listen to.Kinitari said:Hollerado? Sounds hipster.
Yeah =/. But the Galaxy S is where I am finally jumping in, if I go to this concert and am thoroughly impressed by Metric, I will take it as a sign and take the plunge.
soultron said:Hollerado -- "Juliette" (might've heard it on The Edge if you're a radio-goer.)
had it since it first came out. works great on DX except for some sound issues. choppy to looping (irritating bass sound)Freyjadour said:So anyone had the chance to play around PSX4Droid anymore?
