RAGE

I have a Droid Incredible and want to hold off upgrading to a new phone until next year when 4G is integrated and Android 3.0 (Honeycomb?) is released. What's the chance of Verizon getting a phone similar to the Nexus S by then?

I got to play around with the Nexus S at Best Buy the other day and it is pretty sexy. I think if the Palm OS guy (Duarte?) has his stamp of approval all over 3.0, I'm going to want a stock Google experience. I'm on Sense now, and honestly, it doesn't offer too much over stock Android now that Launcher Pro replicates many of Sense's widgets. Though I still do love the Sense dialer (with its T9 search capability and the of blending of your contacts list with recent calls).

I'm sorry, man, but nobody can answer that question. We can all guess that the Nexus will be a continuing theme as a milestone of sorts, but there's nothing concrete.

Hi guys, I got my girlfriend a HTC desire HD for her birthday and I have to say it is a sweet phone but we are encountering some issues like lag when I am scrolling through here photos and also when filming.

I got a couple of questions regarding the Icons at the top of the screen.
I will explain how the icons look:

1st: 3G with an arrow up and arrow down.
then there is this sync icon coming up now and then, what does it do?

HOW should I make the phone quicker and maximize the battery life?
It is quite a bad battery life compared to my iPhone 4...

Is it the Desire or Desire HD? The old Desire is going to be quite slow in comparison to much of the stuff coming up now. You can always get a new battery or root the phone. Install Roms that increase its speed and there are a variety things you can do to save battery life once you root the device.

it is the new desire HD, I am on my wifi here at home but the damn 3G with an arrow up and down is always next to the wifi connection I am surfing in..
at first I thought that the 3G icon was because I was disconnected from my wifi but that was not the case as i am on my wifi.

Get an extended battery, look into a custom ROM, and yes, 3G indicator should go away when you connect to WIFI (at least it does on my Droid X).

hmm strange the 3g indicater is always there next to the wifi.....and it was not like that when we got the phone, this 3g indicator showed up yesterday and since then the phone is just slow.

so I should get a bigger battery and hack the phone..any advice on what I should install to get the phone to be quicker?

The droid x dialer has all the same capability as the sense based android phones now! Not to mention facebook statues updates incorporated writhing the diaper as well. Thank God hatch gives other developers great ideas to ape!

For the picture scrolling laggibg: turn on usb debugging (applications > settings > developing or something)

And use advanced task killer (from the market) to kill/close alot of stuff.the big screen drains the battery fast but with some tweaking you get decent standby times. Also usefull app is "usefull switchers" to turn off wlan, brightness etc. Htc is working on a stronger battery for the DHD. I hope it is a 1500mah one.

If you have Froyo and up (eclair, for that matter) you really don't need to use a task killer. It will be more of a detriment than a help

If you're in Canada (or on ATT), the Desire HD is coming soon:

It sounds like all of NVIDIA's wrangling and cajoling finally paid off, if a couple of analysts are to be believed -- both say the company's dual-core Tegra 2 chipset is racking up wins in the tablet space. We've seen it seemingly raise the bar for smartphone silicon in the LG Star and tease us in slate after slate, but Citigroup's Glen Yeung says that Samsung has "placed a sizeable order with Nvidia for Tegra 2 chips in the first half of 2011, geared for both tablets and smartphones,"...

Any number of reasons, to be sure, but Glen Yeung also says that Google has made Tegra the reference design for Honeycomb, aka Android 3.0, and so Tegra 2 may sound like a fast track to victory in the budding tablet space.

Rest at the link: http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/19/samsung-nabs-tegra-2-for-galaxy-tab-2-google-makes-tegra-the-ho/
I'm glad I've held out for a new phone with these puppies coming.

Resolutions were kept same. The iPhone 4 is pushing four times the amount of pixels as the 3GS and about two times of the average Android phone.

960*640: 614,400 px
800*480: 384,000 px
480*320: 153,600 px

Ah, makes sense now.

Well Android gaf, after using only iOS devices till now, including the iphone 4, I officially have a taker on my iphone and I currently have the nexus S coming in the mail any time now (I live in Canada). Am I in for a shocker or what when it comes to learning curve, I don't think it will be so bad since I'm no noob, but I haven't touched an android phone outside of stores.

Reasons I gave up the iphone is because I got a 40 dollar unlimited talk/text/data plan from a promo (canadians know what I'm talking about), I love the iphone but I'd give up anything for a plan like that.

So where is the best place to go to see a list of must have apps and just general things like that. Excited to try this shit out.

You mean that Viewsonic G Tablet? The only Tegra 2 tablet on the market? Yeah, it's out. :lol
yeah I saw that. Was hoping they'd slash the price to $200. Pick up. Root. Profit.

Oh. Don't forget the eLocity A7 ! ;)

7 inch, froyo, 1080p with hdmi yada yada. BJ's was selling it cheaper than everyone else at 299. At 10 inches (at that price) I'd grab in a heartbeat. But not totally sold on the 7inch yet.

That and the viewsonic were the ones that came to mind.

What's the consensus on the Desire HD now that it's been out for a while? Kinda tempted to pull the trigger on one (25e a month with full internet access, none of that limited bandwith bs)

For me the only con is the battery life while using the phone (1200mah). But if you are a power user you still get a whole day.second battery is underway.

Makes the comparison slightly disingenuous IMO, but still nice to see some phones with such high FPS.

Went to the Carphone Warehouse today hoping to pick up a Nexus S, but they said it was still on preorder :<. The price has gone down a lot though.

Is it safe to assume all Galaxy S phones have the same chip inside and similar performance? The reason I ask is I think I will get a Nexus S and a Samsung Vibrant for my wife.

Also, any idea if the Nexus S on contract will be less than 200 anytime soon? I would pounce on it at $100 with no hesitation.

All Galaxy S have the same chipset, I can't imagine why they wouldn't.

As for the second question, I highly doubt it anytime soon, unless from Amazon or something.
