great so G2 owners are stuck with bloatware, like photobucket, and the annoying notifications that may come with it.DrFunk said:So uh, the G2 comes with a rootkit that re-installs the original firmware if it's modified: http://gizmodo.com/5656921/t+mobiles-g2-rootkit-will-reinstall-stock-android-after-a-jailbreak

It's most likely not a chip/rootkit (which there is no evidence of) and more of a hidden partition (which a lot of PCs have.) Just because they haven't found a way to get rid of that recovery partition yet (or, better, keep it but stillthirty said:great so G2 owners are stuck with bloatware, like photobucket, and the annoying notifications that may come with it.

Because it is open and they can. It is the one thing pissing me off the most about Android. It would not be an issue if there were an easy option available to drop it down to stock Android that would not void your warranty or risk bricking the phone.Pctx said:Looks good. Still not getting why Google/Carriers/Manufactures are f'ning with the OS UI stuff and the programs/bloat.

Google is not responsible for Android on phones, the manufacturer UIs are necessary to differentiate from each other and bloatware pays some bills.Pctx said:Open and because they can aren't good enough for me.
They should just have an option to run stock or run the vendors UI. There is absolutely no reason not to have it as an option. If Google is about consumer choice, they should give it to us.

unless you're in Canada, in which case you have no option to do that besides rotting your contract away on a feature phone.Andrex said:Vote with your dollar.

Probably that using your finger for scrolling, highlighting, selecting, etc. on the DS is much more frustrating than on the iPhone or the average Android phone.Andrex said:Also the Nintendo DS is resistive, what are you saying?
abstract alien said:I'm guessing this is the correct place to ask this (opposed to the software thread), but has there been any word on the fabled Gingerbread update yet? Last I heard, something was going to be shown/said about it this month sometime, but I don't really have any idea what is happening with it now. I know its going to boast some UI improvements that liken it to the 3D gallery that popped up on a phone of which I can't remember, and its supposedly going to be a bit of a second tier for them with their premium devices...but I thought it we would hear some fresh rustling about it by now.
Any recent news?
jonnybryce said:Well seems you're a bit behind, the premium device/3D gallery inspiration rumor was debunked by a Google dude on Twitter. Google snatched a Palm UI guy who was behind the Sidekick UI and webOS so we should expect something pretty and different, although it obviously won't be a dramatic departure. Android And Me has been saying Verizon and Moto are going to introduce Gingerbread this holiday/early 2011. I wouldn't except it soon, probably december/january. Which is fine by me.
No the Epic doesn't have that issue. The CPU is very fast and it does not suffer the lag issue that plagued the Vibrant and Captivate. Yes th Evo's screen is noticeably bigger and I almost chose it for that reason but the graphics performance is sooo well below the Galaxy S phones I just could't do it. I want something that will most suredly be fast on 3.0 Gingerbread too.oneHeero said:hmm..
Every Samsung phone I've played with always feel like they have response problems. My friend had the Moment and whenever I sued it the screen didnt feel like it always responded. My wife has the Intercept and sometimes I feel the same about it.
How would you say the screen feels in terms of response? Is the Evo screen a lot bigger than the Epic?
thirty said:man, the sidekick was really ahead of it's time. the device was plagued with a poor cpu and memory but i remember every single option on the device being so intuitive. besides the hardware, the only issues i had with the sidekick UI were its awful artwork. i loved the rotary action of the apps and functions; i can't believe no one has copied that and made a new 3D version of it.
