Android, iOS, WP8 phone debate thread

@OP, why don't you look for an Xperia? The new Xperia T has better benchmark scores than the GS3, has a 4,6" screen and a lot better camera. If you want an Android, reconsider your choices.

A microsoft manufactured windows phone would be the shit. The build quality of the surface looks amazing, if they can make a phone using magnesium like the surface that would be great.

Just a random post about ios vs wp. My windows phone seems to have better integration via bluetooth with my car. It reads texts and displays track titles when playing audio over bluetooth. My iphone does not :(. Which makes going back to iphone a little harder :(

I'm running the Galaxy Nexus (aka best phone) but that Xperia S looks pretty damn slick. Wouldn't mind testing it out for a couple weeks.

As someone who uses very few apps they're all just about dead even for me. I have a gNexus now and at this point android is nexus or bust. I love Googles services, I hope Google goes with another company (like HTC) for the next Nexus. I don't like Samsungs cheap feeling toyish phones. Nokia wins the beauty pageants and look to have some competitive hardware this time around. Hopefully WP8 fixes the problems I had with WP7, which were limited multitasking and poor 3rd party app performance for the record. The black iPhone 5 looks really sharp even if it doesn't have Nokia's wow factor. Honestly the biggest plus iOS might have is allowing me to ditch paying for a text plan. I can upgrade in November and have no clue what I want to do.

If I could put the butteryness of pure jelly bean into a 920. OH GOD

biggest grip as someone who's exclusively used iphones is the sound quality on my galaxy nexus . The audio chip blows. Wolfson chip or bust next round, I don't like my bass rolled off and compressed to hell and it's the only negative that stands out to me besides the fact that the 920 and the new iphone build quality are leaps and bounds above anything Samsung has to offer.

Windows Phone since launch! Windows Phone + iPad has worked out perfectly so far. Stuck on a Lumia 900 for awhile I think, but I love it unconditionally.

Why is it when I made I thread exactly like this one it got locked? :P

Anyway, just happy to see it finally be made. Hope this will clean up some threads.

im reposting my shit, maybe someone wants to join in and prove me wrong

Highest DPI
Fastest Screen Refresh
Only Screen that works with gloves,
Best Camera on any current smartphone for videos AND pictures
NFC
Wireless Charging
Best visibility in sunlight (according to nokia)
Best audio-recording

Then Windows Phone 8 itself:

Well over 100.000 apps in the store from the get go
Highly customizable with livetile size choice and loads of accent colors
"Lenses" for best camera customization
"True" Offline Maps and Navigation without caching the data before
Skydrive and Windows ID integration for instant access to everything from every - Windows 8 and Windows phone 8 device
And everything that made Windows Phone 7 great.

I'll add pictures for visual stimulation

I'm a happy iPhone 4S user. I like iOS, and I like the design of the iPhone 4/4S.

However, the best looking phones out there are the Nokia ones right now. Really sexy handsets. It's just a shame about the OS. If the Lumia phones had Android on them, I'd sell my 4S in a flash. Seriously. I like iOS and I like Android, but I really can't stand Windows Phone. The UI is hideous, last time I was researching one (back when the Lumia 800 was new) I was told that you're tied into MS's bullshit at the OS level, even Bing. I don't like Xbox LIVE, so the gaming functionality is completely worthless to me. And then there's the fact that users of WP7 are screwed out of WP8, and users upgrading their handsets can't bring their WP7 apps and such to WP8 phones.

In general I just dislike Microsoft stuff. I may come across as broadly dismissive, but most of it is trash. I only use Windows 7 because gaming on Linux isn't so hot, but there's more choice in mobile so any handset plagued by their user experience is a big no for me.

My Verizon contract is up. I have an HTC Incredible. Probably will get one of the new Nexus's (if on Verizon), and will be going from Touch to iPad for iOS. I want to try Windows Phone really badly, just wish there was a Windows Phone pmp. I had a Zune HD before...

That's false.

Windows Phone 8 can run Windows Phone 7 applications, obviously the opposite isn't true.

Huh? There is no FB app on Windows Phone, the service completely integrates into the OS and thus is faster than anything iOS can do.

I have a Samsung Focus. And I use the Facebook app more than I use the integrated Facebook in WP7.5. Not a fan of the integration. Not reliable.

Smartphone history:

N95 (the iPhone before the iPhone) > Hero > Omnia 7 > Galaxy Nexus ( > Lumia 920).

I've used iPhones throughout all this time, from the original 2G all the way to the 4S and was anticipating the iPhone 5, but the poor showing yesterday made my decision all the more easier: Lumia 920 it is.

The only downside of Windows Phone is its ecosystem which is smaller than Apple's or Google's. But it's catching up fast, and the release of Windows 8 will only speed things up.

And honestly there's not really any apps I'd miss from my Galaxy Nexus or my girlfriend's iPhone 4 when I make the switch back.

I stick with Android for versatility and freedom. iOS has great content and is super easy to use. WP... I'm sorry, Microsoft will screw you and screw devs. It may not be today but eventually. Same old Microsoft, deep in their history. It's a pretty OS, though.

I personally think switching ecosystems isn't even all that hard anymore. Most of your information is in the cloud anyway. I bought a lot of music on iTunes for my iPod Touch, it's all on my Lumia now. And the amount of paid apps that I use is ridiculously small.

Of course YMMV. But I think a lot of people overstate the difficulties, if you didn't buy like 50 apps.

I'm on Android right now, and I'm pretty happy with it.

However, the new Nokia's are luring me towards WP... They're just such sexy phones. I could see myself making the switch in a year or two.

Id give WM a year before going into my options. Im sure it will mature next year.

Also I hate the design of the 920. I prefer the 820's design actually.

I must say, the Lumia 920 is an alluring device, but something about the Windows panes still seems too simple and basic to me. I also feel like more of the front should be occupied by actual screen real estate, that and the apps are still too few. Will be interesting to see an S3 vs Xperia T vs L920 vs iPhone 5 battle.

I hope everyone who says they're getting the 920 actually gets it cause I'd consider jumping in if WP8 had better dev support.

I bought over 50 apps when I owned iPhone....and still left the ecosystem. I bought a ton of Android apps.....and still left the ecosystem.

I've bought a lot of apps on Windows Phone, and if I decide there is a better experience for me elsewhere, I'd leave it in a heartbeat.

Plus, it's getting easier to maintain access to your investments. iPod touch, iPad, Nexus 7....all these things allow access to the apps without having to use the OS as a daily driver on the phone.

Apple has already copied notifications and social media integration. If they can copy live tiles/widgets, I'd consider going back. But that phone and that iOS 6 are lazy efforts by them and Lumia 920 is where its at this fall.

If Windows Phone gains traction I will consider moving to it. It's looks and runs great, and feels very fresh. But for now iOS is like the PS2 of the mobile market.

Android is messy and feels very... generic. I've used the S3 and it's a great phone but it just doesn't feel right for me.

I'm starting to consider the Lumia 920, but I do need to find out more about the Windows Phone OS. What does it offer in terms of customizability and integration with 3rd party apps? For example, if I don't want to use Internet Explorer, can I set my links to default to another browser? What about integration with 3rd party turn by turn navigation apps, map apps, email clients, search engines? Also, does Windows Phone 8 offer anything similar to Google Now?

Jailbroken iPhone, best of both worlds.
Basically, this. But speaking more generally, they all sort of suck. I praise WP8 for metro and rethinking the game a bit, but too bad it's visually lackluster.

I can't believe that all devices that revolve around apps, are using a design and structure that was brought forward with absolutely no intention of being used for that. iOS had no clue what was coming to it, and all it has done this entire time, be it with app pages to spotlight to folders to notification center, is simply adapt the original UI.

It's too late to rethink the entire thing, I think, which is unfortunate. Again, metro at least attempted approaching it under a new light, but nothing is going far enough from the original mechanics imo.

I've got like a hundred+ paid iOS apps and I couldn't WAIT to dump my iPhone within a year of getting it, the OS is just dull. I have an iPad which made the jump much easier as i'd still have access to the Apple ecosystem. Moved on to a htc Sensation and I liked Android well enough but the OS always seemed to be a little disjointed, with spotty UI consistency. I then got the Lumia 800 at launch and I've been happy ever since. It's been my daily driver for a year and I can't wait to pick up the 920. I'm still holding onto the Sensation though, i've thrown on GB, ICS, and now a JB ROM and it's been interesting to see how far Android's come. JB is snappy as hell but i think it's still a little too convoluted for a mobile OS.

At the moment, I'd say iOS, all the way. The apps make it so.

But Jelly Bean is definitely a huge improvement and makes Android actually enjoyable to use, which is a first for me. I can see myself switching in a year or so- once apps start getting more polished. Getting Instagram definitely had me thinking, but the only thing that would get me to switch today would be an Android version of the Lumia.

On the tablet front, however, iOS is just too far ahead of the pack for me to even consider switching. I got a Nexus 7 and used it for a few weeks before returning it, as the apps just weren't acceptable in comparison and it was still slower than the iPad 2 (which is 1.5 years older). I'll be an iPad guy for a long time.

Nokia 920 + new iPod Touch for me!

I was pretty close to going back to iPhone, but the Lumia's completely sold me. A camera that appears to be better than the iPhone 5's (though not proven yet), screen that works with gloves (awesome for me), an incredible display, wireless charging, and other such features on top of all the amazing stuff I've seen so far in the OS itself.

At the same time, I don't mind having a second device (iPod Touch) to keep my ecosystem investment around and enable me to play all the cool iOS stuff out there that doesn't make its way to Windows Phone.

Love them all. Each OS feels intuitive and great in their own ways. I personally like using a good ICS-or-higher Android device, but they're all awesome.

I want Nokia 920, but I need call blocking so I guess I'm defaulting to Droid.

I like android and iOS. Don't really like windows phone. Metro is so not my thing. Lack of good apps doesn't help. Same problem with android, lack of as many good apps as iOS. Slowly getting more though.

iOS and windows phone win on the smoothness of everything though.

biggest grip as someone who's exclusively used iphones is the sound quality on my galaxy nexus . The audio chip blows. Wolfson chip or bust next round, I don't like my bass rolled off and compressed to hell and it's the only negative that stands out to me besides the fact that the 920 and the new iphone build quality are leaps and bounds above anything Samsung has to offer.

I thought the sound quality was great and it still is. Did you install a rom/kernel that messed with your audio?

I had iphone since 3G and an Ipad 2... I'm really torn about making the whole jump to W8-WP8 later this year/early next...

I use my 4s mainly as a Cell/Camera so not very worried there, but i'm thinking about keeping my ipad for a while longer until W8 can really replace it...

The fact that apps for Windows 8 RT can be run on Windows Phone 8 phones makes me giddy. I'm sure there will be a ton of high-visibility, high quality apps that will be "exclusive" to Windows Phone down the line. The fact that I can use those apps and my account is synced between my Xbox, Tablet, laptop, Desktop, and whatever else MS pushes out as well as my phone is a big winner. I'm sure devs will see that and will descend upon the RT app market like bees to their queen.

Android's customization and open endedness pretty much makes sure I'll keep an Android device (Not necessarily my main phone) for a very, very long time, however. It takes years to build these ecosystems, and I know Microsofts won't be fully steamrolling for a while. I mean, look at their Xbox Live integration. XBL runs better on my Galaxy S3 than my Venue Pro.

But it can't. They do use the same framework, and supposedly it's a breeze to port over, but the apps themselves are separate...

In fact WP8 is the only one of the big 3 that has no single app purchase for tablet and phone so far (that could change if Ms ever decides to talk about their products that are launching in a few weeks and that we still don't know much about, though)
