DAMMIT WHERE ARE THE NEXUS ONE OWNERS?!!?
Because it doesn't do what the N1 did to the Android scene. Every Android owner could have jumped to the N1 and had a huge upgrade. I ordered mine as soon as it was announced. But to the NS? As an N1 owner, I don't have much incentive.pxleyes said:How is that disappointing? It's a generation upgrade to the Nexus One, and while it isn't a huge upgrade, it is still a nice one for less than a year out from the N1 release.

The back of the NS looks cheap, too.
There's no telling when we'll get it but my guess would be late January or sometime in February.Futureman said:Yea, wonder how long until we see this on Moto X?
I'm conflicted between rooting and getting a custom 2.3 ROM on my X, or just waiting for Motorola.
Something more than rebrand a Galaxy S. I suppose that's the difference to me. The N1 was fresh and made a big splash. This is underwhelming.Futureman said:What more could they have done? As it stands now, it's the most advanced Android phone.
Well the Android scene is kind of a big scene now. It would take more than an incremental android upgrade and a new phone for anyone outside of devs and android purists to get excited. That's a good thing though. It means Android is so big now that something like the N1 or NS cant have such a huge impact unless it really changes the paradigm. Look for Android 3.0 to help solve that, and it may be something that takes the NS hardware and really exploits things like NFS.Bboy AJ said:Because it doesn't do what the N1 did to the Android scene. Did you read the NS page? It isn't JUST a rebranded Galaxy S. Show me a GS with a curved display, NFS, and 2.3 stock.Bboy AJ said:Something more than rebrand a Galaxy S. I suppose that's the difference to me. The N1 was fresh and made a big splash. This is underwhelming.

You can't get a 2.3 ROM on the Droid X(because of the locked bootloader) so you'll have to wait til a Motorola 2.3 update is leaked and install that or wait for it to be officially released by Motorola.
Not sure I believe that the OTA update is happening yet.josephdebono said:Also, does that mean I can call people on gtalk?

I read it and your reasons for distinguishing the NS from a GS are minimal. Vanilla Android is great but hardly unexpected on a Nexus. Curved display, okay, cool? NFS is cool, front camera is also cool. Nice upgrades but not... wow.pxleyes said:Did you read the NS page? It isn't a rebranded Galaxy S. Show me a GS with a curved display, NFS, and 2.3 stock.
Er, Desire is a rebranded N1 you mean?josephdebono said:You guys do realize that strictly speaking the Nexus One is a rebranded Desire, right?
Other way around. Had the Desire came out first, I would be disappointed in the N1's revealing.josephdebono said:You guys do realize that strictly speaking the Nexus One is a rebranded Desire, right?
I don't know what you're trying to argue.josephdebono said:Specs for HTC Bravo had been out for quite a while before the N1 was announced. The Bravo itself went on to be called the HTC Desire but we had known it was coming since before the N1.

GoldenEye 007 said:Well as an N1 owner, I'm going to be looking to keep root but ditch the custom ROM. Not happy with missing timely updates because I have to wait for the developer to put out a final and stable version... I'm still running 2.2, not even the small updates put out over the last few weeks. I've found that root has helped me more than having a custom ROM.
What is the most simple path to keep root (the custom recovery is fine to keep too), while keeping mostly everything else intact. I do have Titanium Backup for my apps and settings, and I do have an app that backs up text massages, so that's a good start at least.

"Not sure where Engadget is getting their reports. The Nexus One OTA isn't happening just yet - should be coming in a few weeks."
There is no way that is happening any time soon, if at all. Maybe in like January 2012.Mercury Fred said:I was hoping for Google's music service to launch with 2.3.

Downloads. Notification icon will show up on the top left. Can be managed through the notification bar or donwloads app.SimleuqiR said:Whatever you find interesting.
EDIT: The Download section? Would like to see the centralized location.
Also, what's your take on the new APIs?
MisterAnderson said:So I'm considering rooting my Galaxy S Vibrant. Main reason being that I came across this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY1YXrltIRE&feature=channel (http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/ryanzas-oclf-20_jyfx.html is the app he advertises) which has a rooted "lag fix" that seems to significantly increase the speed of the phone.
Has anyone done this? Does using this lag fix drain battery life a ton? What are the chances I can mess up my phone rooting it like that guy? (his boot screen is missing). I'm happy with the way the phone is now but can't help but be tempted by making it faster. Although I'm not a big fan of voiding the warranty.

Nice. Long over due.
Will make trackballs obsolete...although I do like the light notifications on my Nexus.
I hope they keep some form of light notification on upcoming hardware.
Edit:
Just got an update for Quick Settings:
- Android 2.3 fixes with following restrictions: no one click GPS anymore (:-/), no Bluetooth and Lock Pattern controls for now.
