Is anyone else having the text message alert bug where it randomly shows the "new text" icon at the top, even though there aren't any new texts?

Open your latest text and tap on the newest Message. That used to work on my droid 1.

Yeah I can make it go away no problem but it happens all the time and I can't ever tell if I really have a new text or if it's just a glitch. I glance at my phone all the time to see if I need to check it and it's annoying to unlock the keylock and go into my texts just to find out that it's a glitch.

You sure you dont have any old unread texts that were never marked read?
No, it's definitely a glitch. What's worse is that sometimes the "new text" symbol will appear and disappear at random in a short amount of time. Like, I'll just sit there and stare at my phone and watch the symbol appear... and then go away... and then appear again... and then go away. It happens a lot right after I read a new text. I'll open the new text, read it, and then watch the symbol appear and disappear a few times at the top of the screen.

So is there an easy way to deodex? I am looking to install some ROMs on my Droid X, this stuff on deodexing is a little worrisome.

Still having problems with some of my music... randomly some of my songs are missing from the music library on my phone even though in the music folder I made I can clearly see the music file in question is there...

I thought maybe there was a mp3 tag issue so I just looked using mp3tag and everything looks fine...

Karma Police is just not showing up in my OK Computer album in winamp on my Galaxy S Vibrant.

Is there a way to have the default music app only index certain folders on your SD card?

I installed that free Gameloft game from a few days ago, and now all of its sound files are showing up in my music library. :/

create a .nomedia file in the folder.

So Mr Andy Rubin it's over to you! Whilst I don't expect a formal unveiling of Gingerbread today it would be nice to get an 'announcement of an announcement' or at least a sneak preview of what we can expect. Hopefully something less brief than Eric Schmidt's Nexus S appearance.

So, uh I am new to Android with my Flipout and having problems with dropbox. I think it is the easiest way to transfer single files of all sorts. But when I put an MP3 on a PC into the Dropbox and view it on my mobile, I cannot get it to show up in the media library (same with image files). I can select and listen to it (or view it) directly from dropbox but only there. I have an app that lets you copy the files to SD and they are there but still not visible in the media library. The only way to bring them up is to connect via usb and launch that sync stuff. Then the phone recognizes that there is music on the SD. Is there an app for local syncing or what could I do?

Seesmic updated this morning,

-A new UI: Refresh, compose and search buttons are front and center, no longer hidd under menu button.
-Post to Salesforce Chatter.
-Autocomplete usernames when you type @xxxxx.
-Improved attachment uploader.
-Ability to change avatar from the app.
-Now available in eight languages.

I had this same problem, I even use dropbox to copy my media, search for sdrescan in the market, this app forces a rescan of the media service and the new songs and pictures will appear.

btw does anyone have a milestone? I have a problem with the calibration of my battery suddenly it will jump 20% or 30% while charging in just a few seconds, the usual re-calibration method doesn't work with this phone since it will turn on automatically when I plug the charger

I'm seeing multiple stories across the web about 2.3 being announced today. Andy Rubin is speaking in San Franciso at the "D: Dive into Mobile" event at 6:30PM PST. Hopefully we get some info there. The people from Notion Ink say that December 6th is a big day for Android as well. And tomorrow the NFC (near field communication) Forum is holding a press conference to launch a certification program. Word is Android 2.3 has NFC support, so a 2.3 reveal today makes even more sense.

Other software news, Google eBooks was released today. Haven't checked it out yet. I downloaded Aldiko a few weeks ago, haven't used it much, but I suppose I'll delete it if Google eBooks matches the functionality.

2.3 has built in wifi calling.

Rolling out to Nexus One right now. Impressions Nexus GAF!

Nice. Hopefully someone can get the link to the update so I can just do it manually.

So, how do I get it crammed onto My droid milestone NOW!!!!

Seems a pretty minor update comparatively.

The game development stuff sounds brilliant, but if I'm developing I'm still going to have to target 2.1 devices.

How do I get it on my Nexus One?

come on xda, where is the file so i can manually update

i didnt mean yawner as bad, just... underwhelming. I really wanted to jump on it to get me a phone that would last more then a year. This thing will be crushed spec wise in 2 months. Definitely not going to jump to tmobile for it, lets see if it comes out to ATT

So, how long until this hits the HTC Desire? :D

Or for my HTC Hero. Lol. :'(

I bet Desire'll have a decent build out in a couple of weeks though. A non-decent one out by tonight probably.

Nexus One owner and haven't received 2.3 yet.

The Nexus S is disappointing as fuck. It's basically the same thing as a Galaxy S, except vanilla.

We've kinda known for awhile what was coming in 2.3. No real surprises, though I want to hear more about the native VoIP/SIP calling.

Google has been decoupling certain apps from the OS updates unlike Apple. They actually could have made this a massive update if they did it the Apple way. Just in the past month, we've had a huge YouTube app refresh, Maps update, Google Reader came out last week and today Google Books was released.

If they would have rolled that all into 2.3, this would have seemed like a much larger update.

I'm really excited to have users try to hack 2.3 to make it works on non-Google phones.

*sigh* Stuck on 2.1.

Yea, wonder how long until we see this on Moto X?

I'm conflicted between rooting and getting a custom 2.3 ROM on my X, or just waiting for Motorola.

How is that disappointing? It's a generation upgrade to the Nexus One, and while it isn't a huge upgrade, it is still a nice one for less than a year out from the N1 release.

Thank you so much!! sdrescan wasn't available for my phone, but BeRo File Manager was, which includes the functionality. Yay!

Goddamn it, I have the Galaxy S on Bell in Canada - we get 2.2 on the 15th of this month.

I'm considering rooting the phone and jumping onto 2.3, but I'm worried about losing functionality :(. If I moved to stock 2.3, would I be missing out on anything?

I smell a Google Voice app update incometh.

I'm having problems downloading Cyanogen 6.1. I get a GApps error when downloading from the ROM Manager. Any guidance?

It's nice that it sounds like the Nexus line is going to be a yearly thing. Front facing camera, NFC, and updated specs on stock Android make it worth it, not sure why you guys are complaining. Hardware-wise these phones are pretty much immaculate already. Pretty sure dual-core isn't supposed to be supported until the next Android release, so it wouldn't have made sense to make the Nexus S dual-core.

That new text input/copy and paste looks nice. I assume if I use Swype though, it won't be available?
