New Buzz Widget!!

buzzw.png

The new Google Buzz widget for Android allows you to post text or photos to the service without having to launch any app on the device. And, if you choose, you can easily tag your location to your buzz, as well as determine if it should be public or private. This widgets extends the already solid support the Android platform is offering the young service. For example, Buzz is built into Google Maps on Android, as well.

What would you guys recommend for tethering?
I used PdaNet. It requires a desktop application too, but it was simple to setup and it worked well enough for me when my regular home internet connection was out for a few days.

I remember these folks from my PalmOS days. Nice to see they're still making stuff. This sounds like a good option since it's free and no rooting, but I'd prefer something that has the simplicity of just popping open a virtual wifi.

How do you take a snap shot of your screens? I'm not rooted btw.
You don't without being rooted, afaik.

is there something to turn it into a hotspot?

That's what I'm looking for. I ran into something yesterday but it required rooting.

I am a complete Anroid noob (phone is coming today, I gave in to the AT&T version)

AWSOME! What is everyone using to scan the QR codes?

This game is very high quality... I feel like I'm playing a High Budget SNES game....

See I knew I was right in being excited. :D

Chris Pruett is seriously one talented dude. He used to be a full-time game programmer (sometimes for crap games) but listening to his recent talks, he really "gets it."

So I have been looking for a graphing (plotting? I'm not sure what the correct mathematic, english term is) application, but I have found nothing but very, very amateur kinds of apps.

Can anyone help me? If it plots 3D graphics, that would also be really awesome.

APP BRAIN

Simply put, it’s an application for your phone that communicates with a Web site. The app interface is simple enough, it’s a list of applications installed on your phone. The real power is in the website.

We’re all familiar with Cyrket and Androlib and the way they allow you to browse what’s currently published on the Market, as well as provide a link to download them via QR code. AppBrain takes this a step (well several steps … read on) further by filtering the results to highlight the more useful applications and simply provide a grayed-out link to apps that hit their Spam list. They explain their criteria and the whole process here. It’s an interesting read as well as a novel approach to filter out the junk, and best of all it works. Once you’ve looked through the new filtered search results, you can mark any app you find interesting for installation right from the web interface. Hell Heck (family blog Jerry) you can uninstall apps this way too. Think of it as iTunes for the Market via the web. (Don’t sue me Apple!) This sounds pretty cool, but until you actually try it you have no idea how much more efficient the whole process is. Let’s walk through uninstalling and installing an app using AppBrain.

It's Itunes via browser for Android...And its awsome !!

Holy ! I just saw a video for this game!! O_o
I'm not much of a mobile gamer, but I can't pass up a game that has the Android's mascot in it :lol I can't believe this game is FREE? Google should cut this guys a check!

Edit:

This was made by a couple guys at Google in Japan. One of them gave a talk about making games for Android at GDC.

Is this true? Someone at Gizmodo commented about this.

Yeah, as I said it was made by Chris Pruett, an Android development advocate for Google in Japan, in his 20% time. He talked about it a bit last year at Google I/O and at this year's GDC. I expect he'll talk about it again and his experiences making it at this year's Google I/O.

In Dropbox’s two year history, we’ve had some ardent fans salivating over the next killer Dropbox feature. We love these people!

Our first huge feature following (and birthplace of our Dropbox poetry tradition) was our Linux version, which was soon followed by the highly anticipated iPhone app. However, we’d like to think that the fervor behind a certain upcoming feature speaks for itself:

“Android app, please, please, please!! Yes, Yes!”
“Android! Android! Android! Android! :D ”
“Yes Android please! I need this app, like a grindylow needs water.”
“and i need this app like desert needs the rain.”
“DO WANT! ANDROID DROPBOX … YES YES YES1!!!”
“Desperatly want to complete my assimilation by the droid.”
“I WILL SELL MY BABY DAUGHTER FOR ANDROIDBOX”

You get the point. So without further ado, I’m proud to share some info and a few screenshots of the Dropbox Android app that we’ve been working on.

Access your Dropbox on the go – All the contents of your Dropbox are available for viewing. You can even stream music and movies in your Dropbox straight to your Android device.

Make edits to your files and sync them back to Dropbox – Any changes you make to your files will sync back up to your Dropbox.

Download files for offline viewing – Add files to ‘Favorites’ and they’ll be accessible at any time.

Upload files and sync them to your Dropbox – Take a photo, shoot a video, or upload some audio from your Android phone and email its public link to a friend in less than a minute.

Share links to files in your Dropbox – Yes! Any file in your Dropbox!

And now for some eye candy (these were taken on a Motorola Droid):

As a light Dropbox user this pleases me. :)

I didn't love the iPhone Dropbox app and ended up just using the website. I'll give this a shot, and it looks good, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Release it fast though!

Swype is pretty awesome, I have it on my G1. WVGA devices should be easy to install. HVGA there's a file you can download from XDA.

So Google Voice app has been updated and it seems to support push notifications. :D plus it's a lot more speedy.

Previously, alerts of new voice and text messages were pushed out every fifteen minutes. In fact, I had turned them off, since alerts hit my phone via email more quickly than native Google Voice alerts. But if you enable Inbox Synchronization in the new version of the app, alerts will hit your phone within seconds. And turning on this feature will also tell Voice to stop forwarding text messages to your phone, handy if you are allotted a limited number each month.

Besides this speed boost, the new version of Voice also adds a handy contact strip that pops up when you tap a contact's avatar within the app. If you've used a Nexus One, you'll recognize this easy way to choose how you want to get in touch with someone.

This is awesome because just two days ago I was playing with this trying to save battery (why the hell do I want my inbox refreshing every 15 minutes ALL DAY?). This is a great update that couldn't be more timely.

Google Voice(mail) + Droid + Chrome w/Voice extension = the best voicemail experience ever, with 100% less annoyance than other voicemail methods. Google is great.

Is the Facebook app working for the rest of you? As of this morning, anytime I try to post a comment or status update, I get an error message that says, "200/Feed story publishing is disabled for this application." I'm getting this on my Droid and a friend of mine is getting the same thing on his Eris. I tried a reboot with no effect.

Anyone?

Ok good, a nice music player finally. That's another check mark off requirements for a possible iphone-to-android conversion. Still a long way to go, but it will be helped greatly if Apple sticks with AT&T only for the next iPhone.

seems like cubed can't sort by album name, rather than artist name?

also, terrible terrible idea for a name for the android market place. neither 3 or cubed find it, i had to search for rockon, because its name is a superscript 3 and i dont even think you can type that on my phone.

yeah there are definitely a few limitations on it, some (and i believe the album name sorting) were called out in the review. Hopefully they get added in.

Erm... has anyone here actually been trying to use the Cube player?

I played around with it like for a while yesterday and it was really bad. Like, REALLY BAD.

Just curious what others impressions are.
I've been using the 2.1 player lately and it's better than any of the stuff I've tried on marketplace.

How can I make it ignore all the ringtones. I can't find the folder to add .nomedia to it, and don't even know if ³ will know what .nomedia means

If you want a good music player fork over the couple of bucks for bTunes and stop complaining.

That looks enticing.

Wait, isn't bTunes a player that was/is available on the iPhone through Cydia? Even the interface looks familiar.
