Anyone using BeyondPod for RSS/Podcasts? I just started the free 7 day trial. Saw a couple of comments on the Marketplace that raise some concern about crashing but so far it's been stable for me. I was primarily looking for a RSS reader to cache feeds locally but I've also been finding Google Listen absolutely tedious to use and this turns out to have a very nice interface for downloading, streaming and queueing podcasts. The app has rich, deep customization options, Syncs with Google Reader, allows scheduled updates, even has a widget for playing podcasts.

App remains usable after 7 day trial, but some "Pro" features are disabled unless you pay $7 to unlock. Not clear what the Pro features are.

Just downloaded this on your reccomendation and I love it. Syncs with google reader, downloads or streams podcasts (video podcasts as well) with a widget, and is extremely flexible. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

The differences after the Pro feature are disabled:

* Scheduling of updates will be disabled
* You will be able to update only one feed at a time
* You can download only one podcast at a time

I'm looking for a free video podcast player and cant find any. I miss the itunes player on the ipod touch.

I think BeyondPod has what you are looking for.

I'm interested in BeyondPod if I ever pick up an Android phone. I subscribe to a podcast via an RSS feed that requires a username and password to update. Will this work with BeyondPod?

Yep. It gives you an option to input a password for each feed if you want to.

Try MyPod: http://www.my-pod.org/
or DoggCatcher: http://www.snoggdoggler.com/

You can also download apps to sync with iTunes when you plug into your computer if you want, but that wouldn't take care of browsing for the vid/audio podcasts on your phone once they're downloaded - so maybe try looking into the above first.

BeyondPod might be better actually - I don't know without trying all of em! :P

Anyone know a good app that is similiar to Flip'n'Shake. The app gives you options to customize what your phone does in certain situations when you Flip or shake it. Seems really useful but the app itself isnt as customizable as I thought.

I just read what it was, nice. I'm more of a Newsgroup kind of guy though.

Anyone tried out Swype on the Nexus One?

I installed it from here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625910

A bit of a learning curve but I can see myself getting fast using it.

yeah! i grabbed it a couple days ago, it's pretty sweet, though, havent really toyed with it too much, but is there some easy way to toggle normal typing / word completion etc

Any video game release date apps out there? Basicaly the "Movies" app but for games?

if there isnt an app, anyone have a recomendation for a good website? I used to use IGN for that, but they seemed to have stopped giving a shit, and barely update it.

Seems Verizon 3G is not IRC friendly. I am disappoint.
Yeah, you get disconnected any time you make/receive a call. I use an IRC proxy/bouncer, which holds the connection for me, in order to keep my connection going all the time. The bonus is that I can connect to it from my phone or a regular IRC client, doesn't matter.

Look up the release dates of games you're interested in, and mark them on there? :lol It's what I've been doing anyways.

Yeah.....but I want someone else to do it for me! thats why I want a fancy app :P

Subscribe to whichever system you're interested in using Google Calendar:

http://www.vgdates.com/

In Calendar, you can edit what kind of alerts you get (pop-up, email).

I don't use these so I can't vouch for their thoroughness.

Thought about using this too, but it has a disclaimer: "Release dates are for Europe only at the moment. USA and other regions to follow."

Have you tried AppAware? http://appaware.org/

AppAware shares online your installations, updates and removals of Android applications. In this way you become aware (App-Aware) of what other users are installing on their Android phones right now!

And if you like, you can even share automatically your installations, updates and removals on your Twitter account!

AppAware does not aim at replacing the Android Market, it is rather a companion to let you discover new and interesting applications with the help of other users.

Hoping maybe you guys can help me, I have the nook softrooted, however I am not sure how to add programs to it. Specifically Trook and nookLibrary. I was unable to connect to my nook wirelessly using these steps, got an "unable to connect to nook IP:192" error.

wow this slidescreen thing is pretty neat

slide1.jpg

http://slidescreenhome.com/

it replaces your home screen somehow, or you can just run it as an app

i really like the way it looks compared to the more standard phone style home screen. only problem with it is that it will only check gmail at the moment, not any email. the google reader and twitter integration works really well though.

If you have a rooted phone and tired of the ads that get put in some of your apps then definitely get Adfree, no more ads in pandora and many other apps is lovely.

Unfortunately, although very cool, I have found that this also bogs the hell out of my browser for some reason.

Two pieces of good news today for Android software.

First a survey by CodeProject:

Which, if any, mobile platforms are you planning to target in the next year?

Survey period: 22 Feb 2010 to 1 Mar 2010

The mobile space is heating up (again) so we'd thought we'd recheck.

Android 24.91%
Apple iPhone 19.14
Blackberry 5.64%
Brew MP 0.61%
J2ME 5.03%
Mobile Linux 4.05%
Palm OS 0.98%
Symbian 7.36%
Windows Mobile 6.5 and below 18.16%
Windows Phone 7 31.17%
Other 1.96%
None. I won't be targeting Mobile. 35.09%

CodeProject is a heavily MS-oriented programming site so WP7 winning is no surprise, but Android taking second isn't.

Also, it seems Google will relax its requirements to get its apps on Android devices:

When are we going to see official Android Marketplace support on such kinds of devices that for example don’t have 3G and only have WiFi and also introduce a few new hardware features such as larger screens and Laptop form factors?

Andy Rubin: While we were initially asking manufacturers to stay within our hardware requirements and guidelines, we are also definitely going to be supporting Tablets and Laptop form factors as well soon.

A little over like an hour in to the latest Engadget show they show off their App for Android.
Apparently it doesn't have multitouch. :lol

You've got to be fucking kidding me. After all the bitching they did about pinch to zoom and multitouch?

They were kind of joking about it. So who knows for sure.
But, from what they showed multitouch looks like it would be really useless.

App looks very fancy though!

Better than the other versions? :P

That makes sense, but you think they'd put it in there on principle :lol

Is the app available yet? Just checked the site and don't see a link anywhere.

I don't know, I haven't seen the others in action.
I guess it would be the same though.

Nah it was just a quick demo. They showed it on an N1, btw. I think recently they said it should be out by the end of March.

Wow. Didn't know there was an Android Build of Swype; went ahead and installed it.

Really fantastic technology. It's about 1.2-1.4 times slower for me than my typing on the hard keyboard, but at the same time, typos are mostly eliminated. Entering custom words isn't tough either.

Swype ALMOST makes me wish I had gone for a Droid Eris/Nexus One instead, but oh well :D

So what does the engadget app do that I can't get from just reading their RSS feed in Google Reader?

Woo hoo!

Hi, we will begin selling At Bat 2010 for Android in early March. Please check out www.mlb.com/mobile for the latest info.

MLB Advanced Media

FUCK ME. Reading through the rest of the thread I guess MLB isn't making a MLB.TV application for android. Just audio and gameday type shit.

MLB used to be waaaaay ahead of the curve on multimedia stuff but this is pathetic. NFL Superfan was available at the start of the season for Droid, MLB had all fucking offseason to make this happen and aren't going to? Pathetic.

Yeah, but no video. Just audio.

I should have came in this thread earlier. I recently rooted my G1. Was looking to run a Hero rom. Cyanogen was pretty nice and I liked the control and look of everything. But battery started to drain pretty quickly and just thought there were to many things that could go wrong with flashing and wiping so I unrooted. Needless to say I found out about Home++ and beautiful widgets from this thread and I'm loving it! And now I'm testing out Touiteur.

Try twicca out, I used to use touiteur but lately I've been more into twicca

Came to thread looking for money tracking program, downloaded the recommend app Tap Money Tracker. This thing is rough, is there easier alternatives or a guide to using this thing? Yikes!

what broswer? works perfect on dolphin browser

Stock. I absolutely hate Dolphin.

RE: Twicca - I've never been much for Twitter but I really enjoy this app.

RE: Engadget app makes no sense when you have m.engadget.com, either way their bias puts me off to begin with so F their stupid app.

Starting to see games taking aware of Android handsets with hardware acceleration.........

introducing ExZeus arcade for Android.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/04/hyperdevbox-exzeus-arcade-allays-fears-that-android-games-are-de/

For whatever reason, Android's high-performance Native Development Kit introduced back in the Cupcake days never got a ton of attention despite the subtle hints that it'd give devs the low-level access they needed to create killer, graphically rich, immersive environments ready to compete with pretty much any other gaming device you could shove in your pocket. Of course, at the time, every phone in the market was running an older, slower ARM11 core -- so maybe the new generation of ARMv7-based devices we've got hanging around now like the Nexus One and Droid are the catalysts we need to get this party started in earnest. Japan's HyperDevbox studio has just shared the news that its ExZeus Arcade shooter makes full use of the NDK, your microSD card, and a custom sound driver to bring a gaming experience hotter than pretty much anything we've seen on Android thus far; the only catch is that you need Android 2.0 or up and a phone with a dedicated GPU to get it going. It's available now in the Market for a seemingly reasonable $3.99 -- and let's let this serve as a reminder to other game studios that they've got the tools and the horsepower to rock Android hard. Follow the break for video of ExZeus in action.

Video (impressive!)
